****! Thats tough! I feel sorry for you.

I had YLOD a few years ago. Never went through with the heat gun though and ended up buying a new one, so im afraid I can't really help you out there. I trust that you've watched all the "How To's" on YouTube, so all I can do is wish you luck! It's only a temporary solution though.

If you haven't done already, check with Sony if you are still under warranty. If all else fails. I'd start thinking about how your going to go about getting a new PS3!

Good luck!

I got YLOD about a month ago. Just got a replacement the other day.
Hope it works man, I now know how annoying it is!

Yea I've read up on the concept of using a heat gun to fix the problem, and it seem sound in theory... but who knows.

I have an oldschool 60gig ps3 and I really hope I can fix it. I want to eventually get a new ps3 anyway, but Not until I can comfortably afford to do so.

And as for the warranty, lets see... I purchased the system the day it released... November of 2006? I think it comes with an automatic 1 year warranty, and they offer what? an extra year or so for like 50 bucks extra... no I didn't buy the extra insurance.

I feel like I should try to fix the problem myself, even if it doesn't work, it seems a lot smarter than shelling out the $150 to Sony to have them do almost the same thing.

And also I took the "don't remove this" sticker off of the system in order to fix something in the past without paying Sony to do it.

If all else fails, then I could probably couch-surf all my friends with PS3s for a while... "oh you going to work? yea it cool if I stay here and play LBP2 for a while?"

And thanks for the "good luck" I feel like I need all the luck I can get right now.

Yea it's definitely a bad feeling. What made it worse, I was playing black ops at the time, and was having one of my best games ever. and it shut down... and hasn't started back. glad to hear that you got your replacement, I could send off for one, but it would cost me way too much money and I've heard it can take like 6-8 weeks, which will not work for me at all.

I wish you all the best. I tried the heat gun on my YLOD PS3 and got nowhere. This is why I've been gone from LBP for the last 9 months - I finally bought a new PS3 over the holidays.

Sucks that I still have a ton of data held hostage on the old machine!

Wow, that does suck. My PS3 YLOD, and I tried everything to bring it back to life. It worked for a month but then died on me again. So yeah, I had to replace it later on with a PS3 Slim (it was a 60 GB).

Hope you can figure it out soon.

For some reason putting my older PS3 in the freezer, directly following a yellow light issue, actually kept it alive for about a week. But then.. there is a reason a use the term "older PS3."
So you can try that to get your data off of it. Just freeze it for about 45 minutes or so, wipe it down, plug it in, start it up. Don't include the cords in the freezer, obviously.

Now to fix it before LBP2 comes out, I do not know where in the states you live, but try googling the local area for a computer repair place or indy gaming place. I've seen more than a few computer places advertise that they repair gaming systems as well. With gaming places there is a game place local to me in the Southern Jersey area called "GamerDoc" able to also repair consoles. It's a good market, and worth a look. Cost about as much as it would to send it in for repairs, out of warranty.
(~$125, usually 80 in upfront labor.)
