YLOD Transfer Save

Archive: 14 posts

So... my old PS3 got the Yellow Light of Death about a year ago. I was lucky enough to use the backup utility on the PS3 and transfer my save files to an external hard drive. I knew my PS3 was acting up and I didn't want to chance it. Fortunately, among the stuff I was able to save was my LittleBigPlanet profile and DLC. I loaded them onto my new PS3 and my LBP save hasn't had a hitch. I had to redownload a level or two I think, but other than that my save file is fine.

I thought everything was cool and groovy thinking that all my LittleBigPlanet stuff was going to transfer to LittleBigPlanet 2, but then I heard that they won't let you use downloaded saves to transfer between them. I know its just to prevent people from stealing profiles and levels 'n stuff like that but all my stuff is completely legit! I want to know if I'll get some bogus message in LBP 2 saying that "this isn't your save file so you can't have none" when I try to transfer my stuff from LBP 1. I'm hoping that my save file contains some sort of unique signature that is linked to my PSN profile so that the game recognizes this is MY stuff that I painstakingly collected and made. I've spent well over 2 months making a few of my levels and if I can't access them because I don't have the right materials from LBP 1 on LBP 2 I swear I'll be so mad that I'll be calling Media Molecule every day until they fix it for me.

But that's the worst case scenario. I think that the profile save data does in fact have a direct link with your PSN account considering I didn't get any error messages in LBP saying, "this not be your save file, lad," when I restored my backup data on my new PS3. But I could be wrong.

What I'm asking is this: Since my PS3 died on my and I had to transfer all my save data to another one does that mean I can't transfer my file from LBP 1 to LBP 2 on account of it thinking its not mine? Please, PLEASE, someone out there give me an answer to this so I can sleep better at night

Where did you hear downloaded game saves don't work in LBP2? I had always thought that it was the opposite...2011-01-08 06:55:00

On the Gamefaqs forums they are saying that if you've downloaded a save file (someone else's profile save) to use in LBP 1 so you get 100% on the collectibles then it will give you a message in LBP 2 saying that you can't transfer the data since it is a copy of a profile save.

I didn't use the LBP backup option because it wasn't available when I backed up my PS3 files. It doesn't seem to affect my trophies or anything (just tested it, I still get trophies) but if it doesn't recognize my save data as MY save data I'm worried that I won't have any materials or costumes that I've made in LBP 1.

Sadly it IS true, I just tested it.
I copied the savedata from my main Account, and copiedit to one of my alt accs, then entered the LBP2 BETA in the alt acc, and when I tried importing the profile, it did not allow me to do so, there was an error then a message popped up saying something along the lines about how "That was a copied save file from another user and cannot be used," or something like that.

So srry dude, it sees you'll have to recollect everything.
You could always place your objects/ stickers/ pics of costumes in vault levels, publish them locked, then delete your current save file, just collect them again on your new save-file, and all you'd need to do is get the story bubbles, but that shouldn't be that difficult, may only take a couple of days or so.

Sadly yuo WILL have to re-make your costumes tho.
But hey, maybe while re-making them you'll find a way to make them even cooler.

Hope that helps!

Yet again, if you say it still counts it as YOUR account (Trophies are still ok/ collectable.) it may just recognize it as your acc still and you may have no problems.

It does recognize it as my own save. I've never received a message saying that my profile data is not my own or was copied nor have I received message saying that my trophies are locked. Your alt profile has a different PSN account right? Well, that save data you used was from your other PSN account. The proper way to test this would be to move your save data to another PS3 and try to access your LBP1 save using your original PSN account. If you don't get the message about not getting trophies then it recognizes your save data as the original. I think my profile data is connected to my PSN account and therefore it sees that file as my original. Like I said, I've tested it by collecting another trophy and it worked. My hopes are up that LBP 2 will recognize it as my original account as well.2011-01-08 08:57:00

If it does recognize it as your own, then there will be no problem, as my current LBP data is also a transfer from my old PS3, and it works like nothing happened, so it shoud be fine.

(Also, the test is as accurate as if it changed PS3s, trust me, I manage multiple accounts constantly and test these things a lot, I don't go blurting things without being sure and if I'm not I will say it, so no worries, you can trust me when it comes to the whole acc managing thing. )

Don't worry, I trust you about the info you give. I was just making sure that I conveyed the correct information as to what my worries were. That puts my mind at ease knowing that your current save is a transfer from an old PS3 and still works. That's exactly what my situation will be when LBP 2 comes out. Like I've said before, I've never had it tell me that my trophies are disabled or anything about my profile being copied. So I assume that it recognizes my current save as my original. I sure am glad that I backed up my data when my PS3 was acting funny a year ago.

Thank you for all the responses, I'm now very sure that my LBP 1 save will work on LBP 2. Of course I could be wrong, but from the info given it doesn't seem like I am.

I use a friends save, I lost mine to the corrupt profile issue that was around when LbP first released. In LBP2, don't import your profile, instead, go to to settings, profile and import items collected in LBP1, this brings over everything without using your old LBP1 save, ive been getting pins in the beta OK where as trophies were locked in LBP1 2011-01-08 10:49:00

Maybe save is linked to the PS3's hardware/serial and number of profile's(PS3's profile) number/name on this PS3. When I didn't have internet on my PS3(PSN too. Captain Obvious.), I gave HDD of my PS3 to a friend(thought he'll be able to download patches/some free dlc), backed up all saves. When I took my HDD back, PS3 said me to format HDD(I failed), LBP didn't say anything about my save, I'm still able to get trophies, betaz works with that save2011-01-08 13:48:00

I just came back from Gamestop and the guy there said if the PS3 gets the ylod , just transfer the hard drive to the new PS3 and it should be fine. I have the 80gig with backward comp. and it keeps freezing while playing Fallout NV. What should I do cause he was ZERO help. He said "You don't have to get an external Hard drive but you can if it makes you feel better" ...TF!? Somebody help me out here, what do I need to do? Is it possible to just get a new PS3 and plug in the old hard drive?2011-01-18 21:57:00

Then he's lying.

If you're concerned about losing data to YLoD, then get an external USB drive, and do a full system backup. Make sure you make an LBP profile backup first, because the one in Game Data will not transfer correctly.

NO!!!

I copied my profile a few times over to force the ps3 to debug problems I was having with LBP1. Hopefully it still has some sort of sign of origin. It took SO long to collect everything!

Is getting the ylod eminent for myself or is there hope? That was also something he said and I quote "I haven't heard anything about the YLoD happening to the 80 gig with back/comp being an epidemic?"

Impossible to say, really. Point is, if you care about your data, you should make backups anyway.
