Functioning wall jump?

Archive: 22 posts

Has anyone made a functioning wall jump in the beta? One where you DON'T USE JUMP PADS?
I've seen that gevurah made a video where he did a double jump but I still haven't seen anyone making wall jump logic.

Yeah, way back at the beginning of the beta...

A couple of people got to see it in action at Eurogamer, but I had no intention of publishing that level ever. Chances are it's broken now anyway, with the updates since the early stages of the game...

It's trivial to set up, just use tagged impact sensors to know when it's touching a wall and take it from there.2011-01-07 16:29:00

Yes indeed. I made a Super Meat Boy (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xz8Sj5moo1w#t=00m11) clone in the beta. It was a bit too floatie, but I didn't spend more than a couple of hours on it. Making meat boy was fun, though. 2011-01-07 16:47:00

Mover function it self pretty much guaranty this is possible, it's just matter of logic design2011-01-07 16:52:00

There is a video on youtube Called LBP2 Raiden test or something, where he wall jumps. I don't feel like linking it on account of being sick, but you can just search for it.2011-01-07 17:24:00

Thanks for the info all.
@ Foofles - I'm not in the beta but thanks anyways. why not make a tutorial bout this on your channel?

@ comphermc - I love SMB! To bad I have to play it with a keyboard

@googleit36 - I saw the video. It's not really what what I was hoping to see but interesting non the less.

II"m aware you're not but I figured you were aware of movers and whatnot but... that sounds like a cool idea, I'll do it

Thanks JK, that was exactly what I wanted to see

EDIT: That logic almost made me cry.

Well here is my crude take on it:

Will watch it now

EDIT: That was neat. But I'm frightened by the logic, I don't quite understand it all.

Yeah that video kind of assumes a basic understanding of what the logic tools do, so I'm sorry if you find it hard to follow at this time. 2011-01-09 15:27:00

You can make a decent wall-jump if you can make a regular jump.
Well, I did it with a little furry ball creature in this (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iZzQF19nOQk) video at about 7:40.
I just made a basic jump with a mover and 1 collision sensor and it ended up just making the wall jump work as well since the collision sensor didn't really know the difference between the wall and the floor. That might be an issue based on whatever level design choices you want, but it worked well in my case.

Ah no problem, it actually made me more pupmed up for LBP2 since I didn't have such knowledge about the logic.
@ sack-jake - that looks kind of like a Super Meat Boy kind of gameplay

Well it's now more easier to understand it then in LBP1, so you might get it if you try to learn it 2011-01-09 21:40:00

Cool stuff Foofles. I like seeing the creation vids like that.

A quick question about the selector. In this case is it more of an organizational tool? It seems like you could technically due without it.

I'm not sure, but it is great for cycling outputs. When you activate a certain point on the switch, it will automatically cycle.

You're right, I probably could've gone without the selector but I like to use it since it's a concrete way of isolating logic paths.2011-01-11 01:53:00

That's quite an impressive logic setup you've got.

I had acquired a wall jump chip from a community level somewhere, but I haven't used it for anything, and I don't remember where I got it.

dsdavve made a 4 player ninja arena in the beta. One of the ninja powers was a wall jump and it worked pretty well in gameplay.2011-01-11 18:55:00

Foofles: ....
I'd probably do the same. Just wanted to make sure I understood what you were doing.
