Read-Only Levels

Archive: 15 posts

Ok so just thinking today, people currently have the option to lock their levels meaning no-one can copy and re-publish, or make them copyable where people can copy, edit and republish to their hearts content. In my opinion there is quite and important 3rd option missing, the option "read-only".

By which I mean people can copy the level to their moon and explore and take apart the complex logic etc which goes into the level,in order to grasp a greater understanding of how it works. However it would not allow you too re-publish the level, or capture any of the objects in the level meaning no more of those annoying duplicate levels with people spamming up pages and taking up server space with multiple copies of the same level, earning recognition and hearts without such as a click of the poppit.

I'd love to hear what you all think of the idea

i suggeted same thing a while ago and one where if you work in a team with other creator but theres a time difference you can work on the level and upload it and only people you allowed to have access can copy to their moon update it and then the put new updated version up for the other creators to work on.2011-01-07 12:36:00

To be honest I am totally surprised that this option has already not been included. It is really logical after seeing the fiasco with copying levels in LBP1. There are plentitude of creators who want to show how they did certain stuff in their levels, but don't want to be ripped off.2011-01-07 12:45:00

This is possible, with Key-room-levels. So, basically you make a keyroom, and tell your teammates the code. Then publish a locked copyable level, and the level key is in the keyroom, and to get the key, you need the code.

I see what your sating, but it isn't quite what I meant, but to me it does seem something, albeit the only thing I can think of, but something overlooked by MM.

Hoping that will be a feature of the final release, because it is a good idea.2011-01-07 17:51:00

Yeah, I really wish MM would implement this.
It would be very beneficial to the community.

i mean so multiple creators can publish the update version on the same place as the person who put it up, so its basically the teams level. so say i build a bit of the level i then publish it locked but allow only you to access it and then you can work on it and then overwrite the old level with the updated one, so next time im on i just dowload it to my moon and then continue work on the updated version.

ps. im not saying i would rather have this idea than the one suggested, it would just be awesome for to have both because it can be a worrying thought of making a level copyable and the for someone to take it a get the glory for your hard work.

Are there any technical reasons why they didn't do it so far, because the positive effects of this feature are really apparent, yet nothing has been done to implement it. :/2011-01-07 19:31:00

That idea would work especially well for the "Level in Create Mode", which was an ingenious idea. Unfortunately, that must have been copied several hundred times already, so it's too late.2011-01-07 23:01:00

Its a good idea, sadly its been suggested a really high amount of times already, meaning it's most likely not being implemented, as if all the other times it wa ignored, most likely so will this one, that or is already in the works, somay be released later on.2011-01-08 03:44:00

I called it Observable (https://lbpcentral.lbp-hub.com/index.php?t=25226-Copyable-Observable) back in April, but the idea remains a good one.2011-01-08 05:07:00
