Emitter Reset Button & Emitter Reset Trigger
Archive: 9 posts
In the creator, it's very easy to make an emitter run out of objects it emits if you put in a limit on how many it'll emit. It would be nice if there was a 'reset count' button in the tweak menu, so you wouldn't have to recreate the emitter just to make it work again. Also, having a trigger be able to reset the count would be useful in several occasions. What I mean is that if you have an emitter that emits 5 point bubbles, you could attach a pressure trigger which would reset the count and the emitter would again emit the five bubbles, until it runs out of them again. | 2008-11-07 07:40:00 Author: Linque Posts: 607 |
could you have an emitter that emits infinite emitters that themselves have a limit? | 2008-11-07 12:52:00 Author: Conall-Star Posts: 157 |
You could, but that would do nasty things to the thermometer and is generally not a good idea to do. | 2008-11-07 15:43:00 Author: Linque Posts: 607 |
what I can think of is have a separate mechanism. Have a piston and a cardboard block with a magnetic key. When the piston is extended have the block fully extended, and when it's retracted the key doesn't activate the switch. You just have to time it so that when the key can 'read' the switch the emitter emits what it has to, then make the piston retract so it can't emit anymore... then when you want it to emit stuff again just move the piston back... depending on the situation you'll have to figure out when you want the piston to be extended or not... | 2008-11-07 17:40:00 Author: Ozymandias Posts: 223 |
Look, this isn't an issue of not being able to do something. It's just about convenience. In an emitter you can set it to emit 10 objects and then stop. But there's no way to reset the count. Once the 10 objects have been emitted, be it in Create or Play mode, the emitter is obsolete. If you save in Create mode, the emitter won't work in play mode, because it already emitted everything it will in Create. | 2008-11-07 22:30:00 Author: Linque Posts: 607 |
I agree. Strictly from a design standpoint, it is rather inconvenient for the tool to stop working, so to speak. | 2008-11-09 00:11:00 Author: jfjohnny5 Posts: 20 |

Actually, I think you can just set the max emitted setting to infinite, hit play, pause again, and change your max emitted back to whatever number its supposed to be at. This should reset the count for you. | 2008-11-12 16:15:00 Author: Justin Hopewell Posts: 135 |
Definitely. This has caused so much confusion in my levelmaking. | 2008-11-12 23:25:00 Author: Arcturian Posts: 18 |
