Top down Start gate?

hey one thing that I haven't found in these posts is? (sorry if I missed it)

A Start Gate and Finish Gate made for all the top down racers.

I know the beta is almost over and it won't be long before we all will be playing the real thing, but I really hope Mm are planning to address the need for having a start and finish gate in all these cool top down racers. I've used a glitched (really big)start gate and finish line in the beta, but its not really a fix because you can't use emitters to enlarge items like you could in LBP1.

I'll keep my fingers crossed.... what do you think?

I am not in the beta, but I' m sure there is a way to do this, they have top down racers in the story mode, they must have some way to do it. LBP2 has gone gold anyway, so they won't be making any more changes to what comes in the box.2011-01-06 04:23:00

Splapp-Me-Do made an example of a start gate in his Sackro Machines level.
It's pretty easy actually. Player Sensor + Timer and voila!
As for the End Gate, I'm pretty sure an End Game switch could work.

Splapps level didn't exactly use a race gate set up, it had it so whenever you crossed the finish line you get ten points. That wouldn't help in a level where you wanted to see who was the fastest racer, as everybody who finishes the race would get X points.2011-01-06 06:01:00

chuck_18mp : I played it few times cool level, but that doesn't really count as start gate even thought it is a cool work around.

fodawim : I'm going to have to try that again, I know I tried that awhile ago but for some reason it didn't work for me. I guess I did wrong? I'm going to try again will report back. thanks

Splapps level didn't exactly use a race gate set up.

That because gate inputs was included in 1.02 and not all people notice that

Here's how I'd make one I'd place a or material across the track then make a space the size of the block underneath it, place a microchip on the block. On the microchip place two In/Out Movers one set to move to front the other set to move to back, now make a toggle and a NOT gate connect the toggle to the NOT gate and the move to back mover. Now you must make a player sensor set to require all and obviously specify the range you need, connect this to a 3 second timer, connect the timer to the toggle and your done. Don't forget to set the toggle to OFF.2011-01-06 16:19:00

Thanks : fodawim : It worked!!!! I must of tried hooking up a switch before patch. I'm so glad I started this post because if I hadn't I would still be wondering why Mm didn't give us a start gate option for the top down races.......

Its a very nice addition, but as of beta version 1.03 the gates are not working properly when triggered remotely by switches...

As soon as any one player triggers the sensor connected to the finish gate, EVERY player in the race will finish and get points, no matter where in respect to the finish gate they are located. The order in how players are registered to finish the race, does only depend on their predetermined "player number", and not who actually triggered the gate. The host for example will always register as being first, the first guest will always register as finishing second and so on.

This has been reported, so hopefully it will be fixed for retail

You can do -10 points at each second 'til you don't finish the race.
And when you cross a checkpoint, +50 points or something.
I personaly hate race start/end. Maybe if it's wired, I'll like.
