LBP2: The new Flash?

Archive: 8 posts

i got to thinking (and if you knew me you'd realize the dangers), but it seems to me that LBP2 is beyond a game. if you don't want to create you don't have to and if you do want to create, you will be in heaven... but what if you don't want to play the game OR create? even if you don't like what MM have done in terms of gameplay, you won't be able to dislike everything that the community offer. if it could be promoted on this basis, many people would see through the 'cute' wall that for some reason stops them playing LBP and realise that the games will be incredibly diverse and a total departure from what they expected

for one investment and internet access, you get an endless supply of quality games. instead of going to a Flash site and searching for a game, you could just buy LBP2 and do the same. in my opinion, what Sony and MM have done is stealthily put in place PSNs answer to Flash.

what do you think?

Do you mean because of the community levels? Would that not imply playing, though?
Oh, well, anyways, I do agree it will be amazing to see everything that people will come up with.
I, for instance, personally cannot wait for the RTS leve- I mean, games!
Of course, they'll have to be short, but other then the feature that there is no save system in levels, it'll be amazing.

what i mean is that even though some people might not like the aesthetics of your 'normal' LBP2 levels, eventually games like pac-man, dig-dug, tetris, pinball or pool/snooker will be available to play. these games will not feel like LBP2 levels or even feel related to the game at all, they will just be creations that the online community have made. buying the game could be (for them at least) just a way of accessing a variety of fun games, just like Flash

for instance, if a friend asks what fun, quick play games there are to play, you could just tell him/her to buy LBP2 and find them there.

Hmm. I see what you mean, but no, I don't think it's PSN's answer to flash. But it's close.2011-01-06 02:47:00

I see where you're going but... no. Flash is way more than LBP2, lot more compatible, lot more freedom, lot more convenient (and also because of the previous reasons).
LBP2 is still a game. Very exciting game but it won't go outside of that. Call me again the day people are having a hobby of watching LBP movies or play LBP games on their internet browser and only then we will be talking.

In a sense this already existed in 1 & just has more freedom and online cross functionality to create a more apparent parallel. if LBP2 wasn't limited by shelf life and console cycles, then a greater, long standing subculture than our own 'hardcore creator' community could propagate indefinitely. it has the potential, but not the freedom to become the next wild west of subpunk art.

holo pixels are close. i've been pretentious LBP since '08 & JonMartin already newgrounded it up with LBA in '09

think of it as youtube. just another go at user created content, but alone in it's market, misunderstood & supressed by gaming preconceptions. a newgrounds that can't run on a computer from 2003, will only last 3 years tops & is a bad venue for 'interactive art' because the audience demands gameplay & goals without unfamiliar intellectual foreplay.

sony could try to market and engineer it that way, but i doubt they'll see that as viable or that 'gamers' will become entertainers & audiences til 2020.
