WATCH THIS (Start at the 4 minute mark for those who are lazy )

The video in the link details a so-called "Sixth Sense Technology", developed by Pranav Mistry, a MIT student. Basically the machine allows you to interact with practically any random object in reality and automatically connect it with the Internet. Just watch the video, Pranav explains it.

Some highlights of this machine include:
-Taking pictures by just making the gesture for a picture.
-Getting a live video of a newspaper headline just by interacting with a newspaper headline.
-Dialing a phone number with just your hand and fingers, no phone.
-Getting an audio version and reviews of a book you're reading by simply touching the book.
-Watching movies and playing games on a piece of paper simply by the camera's projection (watch the video!).

Pranav and the Sixth Sense. Apparently the cost of production is 300 American dollars, so it shouldn't be too expensive when it hits market.

Production starts next month so maybe it'll be within a month or a few when it's released.

I didn't watch the video but if it can do all that for $300, that's impressive.2011-01-06 08:36:00

I'm sure very few people knew about it or remember it, and considering its going into production soon I thought it was noteworthy.

There is (typically) a massive gap between "production cost" and retail price in consumer electronics... multipliers of 2-3 times are not unheard of so it might turn out to be pretty expensive for a device whose primary function appears to be to make you look like an idiot....

Even if its x2 it would still be cheaper than the iPad, I'd much prefer this piece of kit.

The idea has been around for a few years now, and has yet to make it to market.
I don't think a projector would be the way to go, I think "Augmented reality" glasses would be a better, more descrete design. Like the glasses from heavy rain.
