2D/Hologram layer Glow

Archive: 16 posts

So I'm wondering after seeing quite a few pic's and videos of people usign this layer they all seem to have glowing pixels, for example

Just wondering can you stop the glow or is it something I'll have to learn to live with?

You can minimize it by lowering the brightness, but I don't think you can completely avoid it.2011-01-05 13:59:00

Actually, I just tested it. If you set the brightness to around 30% you have almost no glow effect and a decent colour contrast.2011-01-05 14:08:00

Nope. There is a material called Neon, which glows, but it is a metal. The hologram material can change colors and you can tweak the animation speed, or turn it off completely, but there is only one type of hologram material.

You probably mean same neon yea it was previously called hot-metal (this is probablywhy comph called it metal) but it is in glass category, just not transparent like other glasses2011-01-05 16:34:00

I really hope that is not in release, but maybe later on some DLC they will include holograms with different textures, fact that it glow is because hologram texture got that annoying bright belt that ruins a little solidness of the hologram2011-01-05 22:58:00

You can stop the animation when the belt is not visible, by setting the speed to 0. I've managed to make fairly opaque hologram letters this way.2011-01-06 11:31:00

Duh? But:

1.You won't remove them on larger pieces
2.It's pain to set up all the pieces if you got many small objects

Maybe you could cut up large pieces into smaller ones. Would you see the seam? Also, I haven't tried the UV tool yet, but that might work, too.2011-01-06 15:32:00

Ok not sure if this helps... And I've had absolutely no experience to back this up, since I wasn't in the beta.

But I remember reading somewhere (or maybe I dreamed it) that If you turn the brightness down, and add a black or white sticker to the hologram material, then add whatever color sticker you want that it will not have any glow effect. Not sure at all where I heard that, but if it works than credit to whoever posted whatever it was I read.
