Dissolve all material types?
Archive: 19 posts
Is it possible to trigger the disappearance/removal of a static object without using the dissolve material? In my specific level, I use an emitter to fire a projectile at the Great Sphinx's face and knock off its nose. My current implementation has the nose built using a dissolve material, and the projectile uses a magnetic key/switch to trigger the nose dissolve material. Unfortunately this setup means the Sphinx's nose is green, which doesn't look very good. I'd appreciate any advice, including alternate suggestions for allowing the player to shoot the nose off the Sphinx. Thanks in advance for your help! | 2011-01-05 01:34:00 Author: Unknown User |

Vulnerable-Non-Protected-Creature Brains are your answer. Yes use these and use an emitter to shoot a "Micro-Bomb" at it when it is attached to your object. It makes a weird noise but that's just what you have to deal with sadly. | 2011-01-05 02:07:00 Author: WoodburyRaider Posts: 1651 |

Or you could be more efficient and attach a switch (any switch) set to "One Shot" to the brain to destroy it. | 2011-01-05 02:11:00 Author: Silver39 Posts: 1703 |
The brains cannot be set to invisible, correct? I suppose there are ways to hide them if they must be visible. Thanks everyone for your help! I'll give it a try using the "one shot" switch suggestion (with a switch triggered by the projectile hitting the nose). | 2011-01-05 05:18:00 Author: Unknown User |
You could always just try stickering the dissolve material to make it look another color. Just saying, you know, if the color's the only problem, you can just do that instead. YEt again, I'm not sure if you can in the PSP version, so ignore if not possible. | 2011-01-05 05:41:00 Author: Silverleon Posts: 6707 |
There's also Rtm's Demitter technique. The basic idea is that an object that was emitted from an emitter with Max Emitted 1 can be made to disappear by triggering the emitter to emit a new object somewhere off screen. | 2011-01-05 09:21:00 Author: Rogar Posts: 2284 |

to hide brain you must capture it in you my objects. then get it out from your objects and use the gas tool on it. put the brain inside the object. glue. de lethalise brain. | 2011-01-06 21:59:00 Author: unXpectiD Posts: 1132 |

Hey I was just wondering if you type your posts on your PSP. If you do that's really cool! I think I'm gonna end up using this but wait until I'm completely done with my level to implement it in case it can cause glitches. | 2011-01-06 22:09:00 Author: WoodburyRaider Posts: 1651 |
often i do post using my psp. and i recomend you practice the technique and remember not to attach your creature brain object to anything else. if you do then it will dissapear as well. unless thats what you want. | 2011-01-06 22:26:00 Author: unXpectiD Posts: 1132 |

I quickly tried attaching a creature brain to an object (a static block), then triggering that brain with one-shot magnetic key switch. Unfortunately nothing happened. I haven't worked much with creature brains. Is there a creature brain setting that I should've set? | 2011-01-06 22:47:00 Author: Unknown User |
Magnet key set to one shot should do the trick. Make sure you use an unprotected brain, and remember you cannot pop bubbles in create mode, only play mode. | 2011-01-06 22:51:00 Author: VelcroJonze Posts: 1305 |

I haven't tried it myself yet it was someone else's suggestion but make sure the settings say vulnerable also and maybe make it not move so put it to 0.0 | 2011-01-06 22:51:00 Author: WoodburyRaider Posts: 1651 |
I believe the one shot thing should work as I think I've done it in the past. Just things to check: Make sure the brain is vulnerable, the switch is attached to the brain (You don't know how often I forget to attach switches to what I want), switch to one shot (and if that doesn't work try other settings maybe), and I believe you must be in play mode not edit. | 2011-01-08 17:39:00 Author: metsfan1025 Posts: 181 |
Thanks for the help everyone. You were correct - I wasn't testing it in Play Mode. That's the happiest dumb mistake I've made so far. Now everything is working correctly and I'll soon have a level for you all to play. I couldn't have created it without LBPC's help. | 2011-01-10 02:53:00 Author: Unknown User |

No problem--and btw, if you do not want the brains to be visible, I THINK you can attach an rod to the object you want to dissolve, set it to invisible, and attach the brain to the piece of material on the far end of the rod. I think the game makes brains dissolve anything that is attached to anything else so this should work. | 2011-01-10 22:29:00 Author: metsfan1025 Posts: 181 |
yes that does work. | 2011-01-10 23:01:00 Author: unXpectiD Posts: 1132 |
