Emitter Help

Archive: 17 posts

i have started using emitters for my levels but seem to have a problem.
i hate the way they disapear. in the devs levels they kinda of vanish or dissolve but mine just seem to blink away and it looks crappy.
any help on this?

The material being emitted can affect its disappearing effect. For example, glass is a material that will just dissappear without a dissolving effect.2008-11-06 23:22:00

They disappear suddenly because the next object that is emitted "cancels" the one already outside, instead of waiting for its "Lifetime" to go away. Say you can only have one block emitted at a time, a lifetime of 4 seconds. However, you set the emitter to emit blocks every 3 seconds, and it may only have one emitted at once. This will cause the previous block to just disapplear instead of dissolve.

Sorry, did I sound too confusing? x_x

Your so quick.

Basically, what he's saying is that, you have the emitted objects lifetime longer then your frequency time. Thus, the object doesn't go through it's full lifetime, and you have another object appear, this would only happen if you have your "Max objects emitted at one time" Set to 1.

Doesn't have to be dissolve material, you can use sponges too.2008-11-06 23:26:00

Give approving reputation points. It is the silver scale icon at the bottom of a user's avatar and information, between the online status and report icon.

From my own memory I can confirm that stone, metal, sponge, and dissolve all have a dissolving effect when their lifetime expires, and that glass does not. I will be sure to test the different materials and report back with the results.

I believe that is because that information is invalid. I'm fairly certain it is dependent completely upon the material.

Well, I was just giving another example of something that dissolves, not the whole list.

No reason to feel dumb. I mean, how would you possibly know that glass doesn't dissolve away like that? I've clocked probably well over 50 hours in the editor and this is news to me!
