Motion capture for sackbots

Archive: 15 posts

I wonder if this is a feature, motion capture for sackbots using the Playstation eye, I'm sure the capable of doing such a thing, not as much as the Kinnect probably.

Another feature that would be good is that when sackboy uses bounce pads, sackboy has different jumping animations, why not be able to program them as normal animations for jumping for sackbots, or could it be done with recording animations? Or would that be nearly impossible?

It could be done maybe like each limb of the sackbot can be selected seperately ant then the move can be used to make each animation separately, all it needs then something like the sequencer to put each limb animation into action... In theory.

I like the motion capture idea with the PS eye but it would be hard to incorperate as everybody's body is different and so it would have to track certain parts rather than the whole body or the sackbots would become.... well..... limp as their arms are considerably shorter than our own (Just assuming based on logic here, may or may not be the truth), unless if you could intergrate to PS move controllers and then track the sphere, but this would be an expensive idea. Still good ideas though, It'd be cool if they could figure out a way to do this in the future, it would be a great way to make poses that can't currently be made (Or at least easily) using the sackboy/sackbot's arms.2011-01-04 20:24:00

It would be pretty neat. I honestly don't know if it could be done with feet, but using the Move capabilities, it could be done with arms.2011-01-04 20:30:00

I love the idea of motion capture...VERY CREATIVE and hope it's something that gets implemented somehow

ESPECIALLY for acting as well....and maybe for sackbot acting you could PAUSE in mid air and be allowed to control the legs too with move capture

I have no idea what their animation routine is like so it's hard to say if they could drop in PS Move support for the hands.

PS Eye can sort of track motion but not very well, it's not a 3D camera like the kinect. Ah well.

@Shadowriver what do you mean picture? there is a game called Kung Fu something and thats ment to track your body movements you dont use move. also the fight can be played with one move controller in one hand and a duelshock in the other and it tracks the movement of your hand.2011-01-05 17:01:00

I have no idea if that's possible but I would love it if it was
and I think (don't quote me on this, as I don't have teh betaz) that recording sackbots does include animations like that, because I recall seeing a beta video (think it was for a game called Panda Fighter or something) where the player's sackbot did a flip every time they jumped.

You'd have use markers or two cameras to get good motion capture going.
Thankfully the playstation eye is a pretty good camera for these kind of things.

Hey, maybe they could do it using kinect

Actually, kinect running on a hacked PS3.... That would amuse me greatly

Only if Kinect also recognizes Sony's motion control lollipops.

I was thinking that too.
It would make creating the movie scenes easier to make the movements you want I think
but arm movements would be figured out but what about legs o.O

but it's not analizing that from actually body movement like Kinect do, but movement of body on the picture and what is major limitation of that it's not aware of depth (it can be determent by size of object like move does but it won't be accurate).

Kinnect have way more sensors and major thing is special IR camera and IR lamp/diode allowing to scan 3D spaces that are hit by IR rays from the diode

It theory it can since it got camera, eyetoy that PS eye is based on it's just normal camera with high framerate and all it's power lies in software. I don't know how Move needs higher frame rate but it works by processing picture and finding color balls and it size + when you include accelerometer and magnetometers results on move controller you get more accurate potion data.

considering this/next month those new hackers release the keys they dug up from the PS3 (you know what I'm talking about) maybe it could be possible?

dunno would discuss further but:

1. not really the intelligent type
2. i'd be breaking forum rules

but yeah you'll probably see an attempt

I remember that one, the animation wasn't exactly like the bounce pad animation. My guess is that the sackbot has a rotator or gyroscope to make those flips, but you'd have to ask Foofles to be sure. I tried to record a jump onto a bounce pad myself, but that doesn't work. It seems that what is actually recorded is the button presses.
