Hitting Blocks for Point Bubbles?

Archive: 10 posts

Hi everyone, first post. Recently got into LBP, and so far I've been trying my hand at making basic things before I make a complete level. So far I've got a working elevator, and a Plinko machine that opens a door no matter where the "token" falls.

I was wondering how to make it possible to have the character jump up and hit a block (a la Mario) and have a prize or score bubble pop out. The first video I ever saw of LBP was of someone's recreation of SMB 1-1, and when I entered the level editor for the first time, I couldn't for the life of me figure out any possible way to do that.

YouTube - LittleBigPlanet - Super Mario Bros : Level 1-1 is an example of what I mean.

Is it maybe a proximity thing where you have to literally be touching the block to activate it?

And then, how does one cause a score bubble to pop out? Is it maybe an emitter? Can emitters be set to just drop a single "thing" whenever it's activated?

I could really use the help, if anyone can spare the time.

Simply, yes!

You just put an emitter on the block, have it emit bubbles, the maybe have it emit 10 bubbles maximum. Then set a proximity switch near the bottom of the block and have its range be small (don't want them the activate it when they're on -top- of the block)

emitter with a limited 'max' + promximity switch... they've probably pulled the mario level that had it.2008-11-06 22:27:00

I think you can also have it so it emits it "On Impact" Right? Or is that just for sound effects.2008-11-06 22:33:00

Ah ok. I figured that was too simple of a solution, and that it had to be more complicated than that. Thanks!

Well, since my question was answered so quickly, here's another. I'm currently brainstorming ideas on how to make a level that would incorporate the 5 acts of the first Gears of War. The locales themselves would be fun to make (going into the Locust Tunnels, the train ride for Act 5, Fenix's house, etc.). What I'm trying to figure out is the gameplay. Is there any way to make some kind of weapon that could shoot maybe electrified bullets to kill enemies that would also be small enough to carry around? Has anyone seen or know of a way to make anything like this?

I think the level would be fun just to platform on, and it would still be possible to have the "Lightmass" bomb aboard the train at the end. I'm just wondering if there is some kind of way to make a gun to bring with the player to kill enemies with.

I think that's for sound effects... so if you have a cardboard box and you want ti make it seem like there's glass inside you have it make glass breaking sounds when somthing hits it =P

But, no, there is no "impact" switch with the exception of the button... which you could use fro the block, but you can't hide it.

Doubt there is a way for Sackboy to carry it, but you can have it so when he grabs the gun, it shoots electrified bullets. Just would be hard to aim it since it would always be on the ground.2008-11-06 22:38:00

Yeah, I guess I could have "guns" set up at various points to shoot enemies with. It's not really about aiming, it's more just for the effect of shooting a gun anyway.

So... anyone know how to make a gun? Any help would be extremely helpful. I wouldn't even know where to start with making a gun.

Lol don't know either, just make it look good, have grabbable material at the trigger spot, and have it emit electrified bullets.2008-11-06 22:49:00

Make your enemies have lines of dissovleable material in them and shoot electrified shapes that have magnetic keys in them. Make sure all your enemies have matching switches that will dissolve them when the key gets close enough (right before impact). In this way you can also have speakers wired to the switch that make them scream when they "die". There may be a way to make enemies that take more than one hit to kill, but it will take me some time to expirement with it and it might be easier to demo than explain.2008-11-07 04:22:00
