The Story of how LBP got me an A+ in English

Archive: 21 posts

Okay, so you should know that I love LBP (we all do, don't we? ). But I don't exactly like school. So how do I make school fun?

Simple. Use LBP as a basis for a school project.

So this all started back in February-March of 2010. My teacher Mr. Will, being as awesome as he is (he may be a teacher but he is really entertaining!), allowed us a choice of a set of book report project models. One of those was to make up your own project idea. While many took this model in a boring way (lots of students can't make boring things like acting fun like me ), I decided if anything goes, I would do an LBP presentation.

Believe it or not, even though he was hesitant, Mr. Will let me do so.
Best. Teacher. Ever!

Anyways, so I read this book called Fahrenheit 451 (I won't go into depth in that) and had to make a level presenting my understanding of the book. But during the time I was making my level (planned to be epic and using 3D expertise), one of the most terriblely bad-timed bugs occured: ALL DLC not on the GOTY edition of the game was DISABLED. Meaning an uneditable level. (I remember throwing something at the wall next.) Basically, you know what I did?
Restarted from scratch.
I, in a rush, ditched the epic stuff and made the second-to-most noobish level I produced in my entire life. (First one has random spikes and visible dark matter. )
So then there was the presentation.

When people came around, I was SHOCKED that practically nobody knew what was LittleBigPlanet (one of many WTF school moments)! Even though everyone was charmed by sackboy's acting and such, I still to this day don't know why they haven't even remotely heard of LBP. (Though one kid named Joey knew. Good job Joey, you know the definition of awesome!) But then again, that means they don't care about noobishniss and stuff, because I got an A+ for suchh a baaad level! (I was praised for originallity) Goes to show what kids are playing these days.

Unfortunately days later my PS3 blew up (not literally) so I had to replace the PS3 and all my seasonal DLC (plus a few hundred bucks, LBP save file and ability to play PS2/PS1 discs) were gone! (Dang PS3 Slim...)

So morale of the story: LBP CAN help in school.

Oh, and don't let your PS3 blow up.

Sorry, the PS3 containing the level file was erased. I honestly thought it was quite embarassing with its cheap cars and bad logics and story objects, but yeah I can't have a good laugh at it anymore. :/

... Meh.

I simply played through the level while talking about the book. If I used LBP2 though I would've made a movie level with my (funny) voice acting

If this is real: Haha... hope you had fun with that!

If you are being sarcastic: This story is 100% true! I even have the broken PS3 stashed somewhere...

what an awesome story, and also LittleBigPlanet help with with Algebra and logic in the game!

When I was a freshman in highschool (now im a junior) I had a really hard problem with algebra, I like math but it was super boring then I was thinking of LBP in the class (that was one good day dream) and then my teach gave us this paper with some problem. The problem were a little hard and then I notice one of them I had to use this formula "a+b+c to the second power" and I was thinking the same as logic!

I tried one of the problem by thinking LBP like, so I use different logic like And gates & Or gate and I start using the logic of LBP. I put and And gate and it has 2 inputs and 1 output so then I was think of using the numbers they gave me and place it in the and gate(strange but it works!)

I gave it to my teacher and most of them like 7/10 were correct! I was stun that day!

I did a presentation with LBP.
Everyone was so charmed with sackboy and LBP as a whole, the actual discussion about my assignment took a back seat.
I got good marks also.

Great story! I don't think my teachers would have let me do that!

I once got praised by my Physics teacher for being the only one in the class to know what logic gates were.

Hmm, if I ever quit my job I can explain to him that working at GameStop is like playing A bomb survival And then make a really bad level with a resignation and bad words :3

Cool story though, bro.

Lol, a similar thing happened to me once in an electronics lesson. There were all these pictures around the room of electronic components' symbols that at our stage in learning, we weren't supposed to know what they were yet. So someone, being who he is jokingly said "I bet I could name every picture up there!". The teacher giggled a bit and replied "Ok, what's that one?", pointing at one of them. As she expected, he didn't know what it was. So then I shouted out "It's an OR Gate." and then she replied "yeah..." giving me a shocked look.

It was pretty funny, but I felt like a complete nerd.

Funny story Fang by the way. Wish I could play LBP at school, although I'd end up going "Aww, gimme a sec" whenever I'd be asked to get off.

Interesting story! and cool!

LBP helped me pass my multimedia unit in DiDA (Diploma in Digital Applications; like IT, but more specific), we had to make a video podcast for our 'cause' (the unit revolved around us producing promotional media for a good cause, mine was recycling), I had some footage of some LBP shenanigans, and a playthrough of one of my levels on my USB, and I showed them to the teacher, and suggested the little story for the video podcast, and he let me do it! It started out with a happy scene in a field, and then the 3 sackpeople who want to go to the park come across a big pile of rubbish (random collected objects/material chunks.etc from the popit) which is blocking their way. Then it goes black and white and sad music plays as they run home sad, and the happy sun is now a sad one behind a cloud.etc, then they decide they can reuse the rubbish to produce fun things to play with (me and my sister actually made about 5-6 little objects from the 'junk', only using glue, connectors and the objects and did the last scene with the 3 sackpeople dancing to Vampire Weekend with their new toys (:
