After the 6 week consecutive blows the 360 has given, the PS3 finally outsold it in Japan. But that's not the surprising part of the story, it outsells the Wii and 360's combined sales! Looks like all is right with the world again, according to the latest numbers from Media Create. This week on Sony's home turf, the PS3 moved 39,587 units -- outselling the combined figures of the Wii and Xbox 360. Also worth noting is that PS3 sales jumped a whopping 907% from last week, when the PS3 sold only 3,931 units. And Japanese have no taste...I mean, GTA4 outselling LBP? >_>What's wrong with GTA4? Yes, it's mainstream, but it is a really good game that I respect. It has great gameplay, voice acting, music, story, online. I can't say it doesn't deserve it. Now, personally, I like LBP more because I am a sucker for creative, quirky games.

voltaire, we were talking about this on another site... It's more of a "Surprise" that GTAIV sold as well as it did in Japan, as it's not a "typical" Japanese-type seller. I just noticed this little fact: September: During the whole of September, the Xbox 360 sold 54,793 units in Japan, against 31,798 units for the PS3. (from the UK's Guardian (http://www.guardian.co.uk/technology/blog/2008/oct/19/ps3-xbox-sales) ) September: 360 old sold PS3 by 22,995 more. In this week alone: PS3 -- 39,587 Xbox 360 -- 6,119 : PS3 +33,468 more So in one week, the PS3 just recovered the entire difference from September and THEN some? And just think LBP had a LOT to do with that (even only at #3)

beating xbox is big but beating it with wii combined!! i swear dont Japanese people love the wii they are on the commercials!! good job PS3 ( in Japan) Mr. T is on a World of Warcraft commercial, but I seriously doubt that he actually plays World of Warcraft.

From what I recall San Andreas did really well in Japan too. I don't know why it's any shock that GTA4 is doing so well.

Mr. T is on a World of Warcraft commercial, but I seriously doubt that he actually plays World of Warcraft. lol i never knew there was a WoW commerical lol and san andreas was the best GTA ever!!

What is actually the bigger news in context is that Microsoft ever managed to ship more than Sony for 6 weeks. I honestly don't think that a non-Japanese games machine has out-sold a currently active, not about to go out of production games machine that was made in Japan ever. From what I understand, whilst the Japanese love things like american Baseball, Basketball and Wrestling, videogames rarely translate well back into their culture, and so western games don't go down very well. LBP being at number 3 is very very good. GTA IV has the advantage of being a 2 or 3 format release (I'm not sure if it's out on PC over there yet) but LBP is a single format, so it's done well in a tough market.

Yeah read this on the other site, to be honest suprised that Lbp did end up a t 3 considering it does feel like a japanese type of game. But GTA 4 being up there not suprised even thought much crticism has been giving I thought it was a perfectly alright game and enjoyed it but defintley agree GTA : San Andreas was the best one by far.

It's about time something outsold the bloody Wii SOMEWHERE. Honestly, I get so very tired of having to sell the stupid things (I work at a toystore selling the electronics) to stupid parents who have NO idea what they're buying and are often only buying it because "Wii Sports is fun". That's the "only game they need!!!11". If you cant tell, I dont like Nintendo much. ......despite me owning both a Wii and a DS. As for the DS sales, that's..... well, it's the DS. It's always sold well, and it DOES have a particularly excellent selection of games. Still, Im glad to see the PS3 at the top for once. Im always telling everyone at the store that it's the superior of the 3 consoles, but no, they want a Wii because it has Wii Sports ZOMG. You wave the controllers around so you arent a couch potato that way and blahblahblah.

The fastest way to hate nintendo is to buy a wii. from the mouth of a long time nintendo fanboy. I dont disagree. I still have ALL of my old Nintendo things. Fully working NES and SNES and such as that, and about a gazillion also fully-working cartridges for each. I used to be quite the fan. And then the GameCube happened. The Wii, I at least give it credit for having a freaking SELECTION; something the GCN totally lacked. Im not overfond of the bloody thing but I DO get a fair amount of use out of it. Mostly though, I originally bought it for Brawl. Lately, since I play Brawl mostly at a friend's house, it's mostly used to play Baroque endlessly. The main problem as I see it though, is of course Nintendo mostly ignoring their original fan base. All Nintendo cares about right now is selling the Wii itself, and selling Wii Fit. Most of the other games, and I mean MOST of them, they just couldnt care less. This is proven by the fact that Nintendo no longer has a "quality assurance" phase when it comes to publishing. Publishers are just allowed to put out whatever CRAP they want. Thus, the origin of "shovelware". Unfortunately for many of us, Nintendo is dumber than a stump; always has been. They think that the Wii's sales are just the best thing ever. Nobody seems to notice that MANY of the actual GAMES just dont sell so well as they'd like......
