Assassin: Tomeh999
Team Banner bearer: Cheddars
Rogue Bandit:
High Mage: Jayhawk_er

Ok, now down to the rules:

-Only people who are on the above list may post here.
-Any off subject remarks must be made in ((double brackets))
-Be imaginative. NOW!
-Try to make sense with the context.
-no double posting. AT ALL! We need to give everybody a chance to write.
-No killing other characters off. It's not nice, and it's really just murder (no problem for Tomeh then ^^)

The Way it works.

Write the story, each person writing a part. There's no order that has to be abided, but as has already been said, no double posting.
When you end your part of the story, try and leave some leeway for the next person to continue writing.

The year is 1000, 1st of January.
The land is not as tame as it once was. Savage beasts run wild; Bandits ply the roads; Rips into the Void are more and more frequent...
I am Malyatrax.
This is my story. And the story of others.

The Gods have started a tournament to celebrate the new millennia, a tournament that shall bring death to the lands, and laughter to the Gods.

The challenge is a simple one, find the domain of the Gods, and take one golden feather from the foot of the throne of Jzus, king of the Gods. He who achieves this task shall become a hero of all the lands, blessed with long life and riches beyond his wildest dreams.

This is not what I want.

Before the new year started, I put several posters in a local tavern asking people to help me in my quest. They didn't know what it was about, but they joined me. They pledged themselves to me, and although I'm sure they have their own motives for joining me, they will be useful.

What is it that I really want?

I want the Gods heads. I want their guts to thrown before them. I want their hearts eaten by dogs, and their skins thrown to the wind.

Why do I want this

I was once one of them. An all powerful being. But I decided to challenge Jzus to his place on the throne. Instead of facing me, I was cast down into the lands of mortals, and my gifts were stripped from me. I don't intend to win this competition to become a lowly hero who's name shall echo on for a short while through history, I want what is mine: The Throne of the Gods, and those that help me shall be justly rewarded.

I met with my new team of questers on a cold and murky morning, outside of the tavern were I placed those posters. 5 have been ripped down. It's not the 12 I had hoped for, but they'll have to do for now. I look at them, and I can tell they're ready to go. Mercury, an 'angel' from the future, dressed in white garments, checks his strange self-loading guns. His weapons intrigue me, reminding me of the black powder weapons used in far of Cathay, only infinitely more advanced, and I'm not the only one: Our assassin, Tomeh, who now stands quietly, slightly away from the rest of us, glaring at the guards who are making their morning rounds, has been greatly interested in these futuristic weapons. He wears an armour the likes of which I have never seen, except for that that is worn by Areas, god of war, which is hewn from sky metal. His muscular arms crossed, our warrior, FailAll, the famous 'Prince of Death', glares at a group of teenage girls who gaze longingly at his broad shoulders, but he's not interested, he only has one thing on his mind: The kill. Our high mage, JayHawker, fingers a bag of runes that hang from his belt. His mind wanders the lands of magic, soaring above clouds of pure incandescence, discovering the ways of magic. Suddenly, his eyes open, and looking around, he decides to sit on the floor, where he'll be more comfortable.

We're waiting for our banner bearer, Cheddars, who I sent to get our emblem from the tailors' district. He comes running round a corner, and runs up to me.
"Did you get it?" I ask.
"Yes, here." He hands me a rolled up piece of cloth. I unfurl it, and regard a dragon, it's scales picked out in gold thread, which circles the motto 'Adventum specto'. Smiling, I hand it back to him. He promptly attaches it to the end of his spear.

I look at the group, unaware of the amazing adventures that lie ahead, and ask them: "Ready?"
I look at them one by one, each nodding in turn, until I meet Mercury's face. With a wide grin, he replies: "I was born ready!"
Satisfied with the responses, we walk out of the city gates, and into the morning mists...

I joined up with Malyatrax near the city gates. I had no idea what I was getting myself into, but I was hoping there would be a lot of killing.
He asked us if we were ready before we left. Everybody nodded, but Mercuy decided to act like an idiot. He put an extremely stupid grin on his face an an even more idiotic reply,
Mercuy - "I was born ready!"

I guess this has something to do with him being a time traveller. In the furture maybe people get more dumb, that is, if people still exist once I'm done with them.
As I walked with the group out of the city I wondered how ready we all were. Did we really have enough supplies to last the journey?
I guess it didn't really matter to me. I decided that if we fight over money, a few deaths here and there won't matter.
We only had a small team, I counted, 6 people. Can we really take on whatever it is we're after?

The fog was deep and heavy. I looked left and right, I could only see Jayhawk_er beside me. We had to stick together, because the leader, Malyatrax, decided that we need to protect our, oh-so precious mage. I felt no point to it, If he truly were a good mage, he wouldn't need protection.

Me - "Hey Jayhawk_er, are you really that stupid?"
Jayhawk_er gave me an angry stare, but nothing else.
Me - "We need light to see through this fog, the least you could do is conjure up some magic to help us."
Jayhawk_er still seemed upset by my last remark, but he knew this was a good idea. He chanted something, and a small floating fire appeared in front of us.
We continued forward. After a while we started to rest. It was an easy day. No monster encounters or bandits. And left the group as they all fell asleep. The morning fog was gone now, and the clear black sky above me was now visible. I searched around for something to kill. Nothing. I looked back, towards the city we came from. Still visible. I heard footsteps now. I hid in a tree, and waited to see what, or who it was. I saw Cheddars, the banner bearer of the group. He seemed worried. Slowly I climbed down the tree. He noticed me, and was slightly relieved.
Cheddars - "Assassin, why did you leave! Our camp is being attacked, we need your help!"
I casually went back to the camp, not caring about the fate of the group. Cheddars ran back. I noticed that he didn't have the flag, which he also uses as a spear-like weapon. I got back to camp and saw bandits raiding the group. Truthfully I was amused.
Fail4All and Mercuy were the only ones fighting. Malyatrax and Jayhawk_er were tied up. One of the bandits was burning our flag. Fail4All was sorrounded. He wouldn't be able to last forever. Mercuy was doing better, he was mowing guys down, one by one, until...
Mercuy - "**** it! Out of ammo!"

He tried to reload but didn't have enough time.
He started beating the guys with his guns, but it wasn't working to well. We were heavily outnumbered. With Mercuy, Cheddars, Malyatrax, and Jayhawk_er useless, I needed to help Fail4All.
I drew my bow, took 5 arrows, aimed, and shot. 5 of the guys surrounding Fail4All dropped. The other 4 retreated. And tried to help 2 other bandits carry the rest of the group away. I put my bow away, and took out my two sickles. The green poison aura radiating quite well. First bandit went down with a strike right under the jaw. The next with a slash through the stumach. I heard somebody say something, and the remaining 4 bandits burned, and dropped. Fail4All, and I untied the group. We went to rest, I took the night shift to guard.

Mercuy - "**** it! Out of ammo!"

((that's hardly fair, gunna have to find a work around where I just didn't have ammo at the time, cuz how will I be helpful the entire mission if I don't have any? it was out of reach, good? aight, gunna post now))

"Nice timing, we were swimming up pooper creek with no floaties on"
He was silent, not suprising, I guess that a sense of humour hasn't been invented yet, we had a long day of travelling and everyone wanted to rest, so we all tried to set up camp, the assassin sitting in the tree with his bow in hand. The rest of us sat around the fire, the was glowing blue flame lighting the scene.
"Hey Malyatrax, what do yo think of that assassin?"
"He saved us all today, I think it's safe to say he's alright."
"Yeah, for now, he's only doing this because he's getting payed, he doesn't want anything to do with us, once this mission is over, he'll just take his money and leave, if we're lucky that is."
"What are you suggesting?"
"All i'm saying is you better keep an eye on him."
"I'll keep that in mind Mercuy, anyone else need to say anything?"
"Yeah, how am I going to fight? The Bandits burned my banner, what am I supposed to use as a weapon?"
"Hey Ched, take this."
I pulled out the M9 Beretta in my pocket, and handed it to him, but he stared at it with a confused look.
"I'll show you how to use it later, i'm going to get some rest."
"Thank you Mercuy."
"Any time, see you in the morning."
The 4 of them started chatting away as I left, Ched still examining the weapon, and the assassin giving me an eerie look, I didn't trust him, but it was something I had to put up with for now.

((I posted my background in Sign-Ups.))

The scout of our group handed me what he called a "Em Nine Bear Jetta"; what a strange name. To me, it just looked like a poorly made sword a drunken blacksmither might conjure up one night out of confusion. It was short and stubby and had no advantage in length whatsoever with would not provide useful in hand to hand combat. Definitely had a heavier weight than of most common swords you might find around town. Nevertheless I kept it as a token of gratitude. I heard a loud squeak as I hastily stuffed it in my pocket.
"Oop, sorry pal,"
I took it out and placed it in my back pocket.
"Thank you Mercuy."

Mercuy - "Nice timing, we were swimming up pooper creek with no floaties on"
I stayed silent, hoping he would just be quiet. I saw him hand over something to Cheddars. One of his futuristic weapons I guess. What would the banner bearer do with that? It's not like the banner pole is too damage. Just needs a small repair once we get to the next town, but I guess a temporary replacement would stop it from taking any damage. He will need a new banner though, that thing burned quite well.

As everybody went to sleep I searched around our camp, looking at our supplies. We didn't have much money ((Hey malyatrax, what currency do we use? )).
I searched the bodies of the dead bandits. I found a few things. A mouldy, half-eaten cracker, a map and key to... a caravan I think. According to the map, the caravan wasn't far away. Since I really didn't care about keeping the group alive right now, I followed the map. I saw the caravan. No guards, I guess the bandits are all dead. I searched the caravan. There was a caravan and a prison-like cell hitched on the back. The caravan had no horses, so I would have to move it. I went back to camp with the caravan and slaves, because both can be useful.

(OK my turn to post):

When everyone fell asleep, I decided to do some hunting. I killed a few deer, but I found what appeared to be a black mass. So I touched it with my sword, Slayer. It immediately grabbed on and wouldn't let go. I had no idea what was about to happen. It took my shape and form. For a few minutes I just stood there, doing nothing. Suddenly, it brought out a butchers knife and took my shape... but of a younger me. I tried going back to the campfire, but it dragged me to a cave. I was confused. What did this being want from me? I suddenly noticed my comrades walking to the cave. I tried to ask Jayhawk_er what this was. That is, until, the creature enveloped me and brought me to what looked like my old home. Suddenly, my comrades appeared behind me.
"What is this place?" asked Cheddars.
"My old home." I said with trepidation of what might happen next.
"Well, how do we get out?" asked Tomeh, bored out of his mind.
"I don't know" I said.

Suddenly, I saw what appeared to be a young me. I was wondering what would happen. My past came back to haunt me. As my team members were watching, I covered my eyes to what would happened. All I heard was a few screams. As soon as I uncovered my eyes, my teammates came rushing at me. I didn;t know what was happening, until Mercuy shot me with a pistol. The bullet hit my arm. I blacked out. As soon as I regained conciousness I saw what looked like a leech. It kept taunting me, screaming as like my mother and father when I killed them. I was really angry about this, and tried shooting it with my bow and arrow. Nothing happened. I tried all my other weapons. Nothing worked. Suddenly, my teammates appeared again.
"So, what is this thing?!" I screamed over the leech's taunting.
"It appears to be a Dream Leech. It sucks away at peoples life forces while they sleep." said Jayhawk_er.
"Kind of like Freddy Kreuger?" asked Mercuy.
"Pretty much." said Jayhawk_er.
"So how do we kill it?!" exclaimed Tomeh.
"I don't know." said Jayhawk.
"Um, guys..." said Malyatrax.
The leech charged at us. Everyone tried attacking it. Nothing.
"So how did you guys get here?" I asked.
"Apparently, we all must have had nightmares or something, because the Leech only targets people's fears and tries to scare the person to death!" exclaimed Jayhawk.
"So why are we seeing Fail4all kill his parents as a kid?!" exclaimed Cheddars.
"I don't know!" screamed Jayhawk.
I tried thinking of a way to kill this beast. I had an idea.
"This may sound kind of cheesy, but I think we need to destroy the brain. If it knows our fears, then that must be where it generates them!" I exclaimed.
"I'm out of ideas, so let's try that." said Malyatrax.
Everyone jumped into the leech. We spent a few hours trying to find the brain. When we arrived, I could not belive what I saw.
My parents.
"I thought your parents were dead!" yelled Tomeh.
"So did I..." I said.
My parentshad noticed our chatter. They arose from their chairs.
"Why, Fail?" said my father.
"WHY DID YOU KILL US?!" both of them screamed.
I was breathless. Suddenly, I blacked out again. I woke up to being strapped into a stretcher. I kept on being tortured by my parents. Unfortunately, my comrades were stuck behind a force shield. I then remembered what my parents had said to me before they died from their stab wounds so many years ago.
Slash Away.
I reached for an knife in my pocket. I stabbed both of my parents dead. Then, there was a bright light. And I and my team woke up.
"Did anyone else have a dream about a leech?" I asked as the sun rose to Noon.
"Yeah, I did. And your parents were in it, for some strange reason." said Malyatrax.
"Why did you kill your parents, Fail?" asked Mercuy, a few hours after realizing we were all attacked by the Dream Leech.
"I.. I don't know." I said, crying and rolling into a fetal position.
"It's okay, Fail." said Jayhawk.
"Yeah, we're with you buddy. You did what you had to do." said Tomeh.
"Still, what drove you to killing them, Fail?" asked Cheddars.
"... I just dreamt that I killed them one night when I was a little kid, and, out of nowhere, they're dead." I said solemnly
"Well, that was the past, and we need to look towards the future." said Maly. (May I call you that, Malyatrax?)
"We better get going." Said my mystical lute Vegas.
"You're right, V" I said,"let's get going.
"Get up. You call yourself a warrior, and yet you still cry over killing people. By now you should have learned to live with it." said Tomeh.
"Whatever. Let's just go." I said.
And we forged on.

Yeah, that and-

and tried shooting it with the rocket launcher given to me by Mercuy when we first met.

I only have, the pistol I gave Ched, my AWP Sniper, an Uzi, ammo for all of them, and a knife, nothing else.

((Sure call me Maly. It's what people called me wheen I played Runescape... A long time ago....))

((We have no standard currency, just gold coins, which is good 'cause we can sell 'em and get the local currency. It's better that way when we travel a lot))

Only a night into the quest, and already we'd been attacked by bandits, had our flag burned, and been savaged by a dream leech... In a dream.
Things were not going as well as I'd planned. It was time to tell them the truth.

Nobody was sleeping, all of us wary of another dream leech. So, stirring up the embers into some semblance of warmth, I called them all to sit by me, and I explained who I was, and why they were here with me.

I told them off how I was cast down from the lands of the Gods, how I cursed them for years after. Travelling from city to city, a mere husk of what I once was. And I told them how, for 626 years, I had waited for this day, a day when we would start the road to casting down the Gods from their high pedestals.
Mercury interrupted: "Hold on a second. You're telling us that your over 626 years old?"
"Actually it's more like 20 000 of what you mortals perceive as years. And who are you to complain," I say, giving him a quick smile, "you're not even meant to be born yet "
Jayhawk_Er looks up from the fire, slightly confused, and asks: "But aren't the Gods able to do amazing feats of magic and strength. You know, raise mountains, summon spirits, even close Void cracks. If you can why didn't you help us with the bandits last night?"
"If I was still capable of a fraction of what I once was, there wouldn't have been any bandits."
"So you lost your powers, but not your lifespan?" He asks, with a glint of interest in his eyes.
"I'm not human, so I don't age as you do. I'm actually about 19 in *ahem* God years. It's like with cats... Magical cats."
A rumble draws our attention away from the story. We all look around to the source of the noise, and see Tomeh stalking through the trees, at the head of a caravan pulled by 13 half naked slaves. Each of them bears an Eye brand on their foreheads. I jump up from the cold earth, and stare at them. They look up and stop pulling, each of them falling to the ground and writhing.
"Don't thank me or anything" says Tomeh, still walking until he gets to the fire, where he sits down and starts to warm his hands.
"Void survivors..." I murmur.
"You what?" asks Fail.
"Look at there heads. It's not from an iron brand, it's a burn of pure Void matter. It means they passed through the Void and survived... And lost their minds..."
"So, they're lucky is all." says Fail, sceptically.
"No, I'm the one who's lucky. Listen, when they exit the Void, they absorb some of the essence of the Gods. They literary have a part of the Gods inside of them."
"And why does that mean YOU'RE the lucky one, hmm?" asks Jayhawk_Er
"Because we can harness it..."
"And do what?..."
"Regain part of my power."
"Great!" Says Mercury, "His ego just got buffed!"
"I need your help. All of you. You too Tomeh. Grab 12 of them and lie them in a circle, and leave one for me."

They do as I asked, and soon 12 slaves lie on their backs, perfectly still. One stands in the middle, trembling. I start to chant, and a purple light rises from the eye brands of the slaves. The light swells above us, and then shoots into the forehead of the one in the centre. The light vanishes, and we're thrown into darkness. Suddenly, white light shoots from the slave's eyes and mouth. Screaming on last word of magic, I plunge my dagger into his chest. The light disappears, and a muted silver light slides from his forehead, and flows into mine. Then, for the third time, everything goes black. Only the moonlight lets us see anything.

Fail walks over to the dying fire and gives it kick, and the flames jump back into life. Everybody looks pale and shaken, except Tomeh who stands slightly away from us, leaning on a tree smirking.
"What the hell was THAT!" Explodes Cheddars, "You just killed all those innocent people, and then, sucked up their souls or something! You MONSTER!"
"No Cheddars, not their souls, just the pieces of the Gods that they had in them. The one in the middle will die, but he was going to die anyway from exhaustion. I did him a favour."
"But why?!" Asks Cheddars.
"Because, it was that or drag a useless corpse of a warrior around with you throughout the entire journey. Do you know how many Gods there are?"
The question catches him by surprise: "Thir-Thirteen.' He stutters, his Ferret glancing around nervously.
"And how many men were there?"
"Thirteen"
"Do you get what I'm trying to tell you?..."
"I think so..." Says Cheddars sceptically,
"I do," Pipes up Mercury, "I'll explain it to you later if you want."

Suddenly the 12 slaves jump up from the ground, look at us for a moment, and then run of into the woods.
"I'm just going to go get some target practice." Says Tomeh, walking nonchalantly away from the group.
"So does this mean all your powers are back then?" asks Fail.
"No, but I'm much more powerful than the shell I was before. I wonder just how much of my power I've got back."
I thrust both hands at a shrub, which starts to grow at an extraordinary rate. It reaches up with it's topmost stems to the sky, and large red and blue flowers bloom from the tips. It then starts to freeze, until a large ice crystal stands before us, which then burst into a thousand silver shards.
"That feels good after 600 years."

From the distance the twang of a bow string and the thump of a falling body, possibly a slave, hitting the ground can be heard.
"Let's go get the assassin, it's time to get a move on..."

Me - "I'm just going to go get some target practice."
I really didn't want too get practice targets for them, I just wanted to kill some more stuff. I went and saw the slaves gathered in a group, confused. They had no idea where they were. I decided it would be the best, and most fun, to kill them. I drew my bow and fired at will. Afterwards I walked away and pretended that the mess was not because of me.

As I walked around, the group found me.
Malyatrax - "C'mon Tomeh, lets go."
Me - "Where to?"
Malyatrax - "The next town over, we probably won't make it by the end of today, but tomorrow we will probably have enough time to walk there."

There was a surprising amount of traps on the way there. Ropes tied us up, bridges fell, etc. I found myself falling into a hole dug into the ground with fake grass on it. I climbed my way out, but the rest of the group left. Nowhere to be seen. This will make getting to the next town quicker, I thought to myself. I took a shortcut, which had a lot less traps to get there. Before, by my guess they were even halfway there, I was at the gates of the town. I'll just wait here for now, seeing as the groups really far behind. Hopefully they struggle and backtrack to find me, because that, in my opinion, would be funny.

"You sure you don't want to go back to look for Tomeh?"
"No, he clearly doesn't need our help right now."
"Maly, you seem agitated, what's up?"
"Nothing, just worried this might not turn out how I hoped."
"Cheer up, you got some of those powers back, we'll be alright, that is if Tomeh isn't still stuck in a pit."
"He'll be at the town, knowing him."
"Yeah, he Maly, we should call you Commander Crunch, so that everytime we go into battle, it's Crunch time!"
"......"

Unbeknownst to Tomeh at the time of the bandit attack, I was actually warding off a great barrier of darkness, a magic rarely encountered. The only magic that affected it was an old basic tome I learned when I was younger. I knew something was up. I had read about this kind of magic in my studies but it was only ever heard of in times of old, and only recorded on the most archaic manuscripts. Also something seemed a little fishy about this Mayatrax bloke. I could sense another rare magic in him, similar to that of the darkness I had encountered earlier. Malyatrax's story caught me off guard, and sparked my great interest of the magic of the gods, something almost never even spoken about in the academies.

I must investigate further into these strange appearances... something huge is brewing, and it's not going to be pretty.

As we reach the city of Gertrani under the grey light of dawn, we all gaze in amazement at the masses churning through the gates into the merchant city. Men and women in sumptuous robes of fine silk ride in fine wooden horse drawn carts whilst entire families of the poor trudge through the mud. Even though the sun has only just risen, the guards look like they've been working throughout the night. We join the throng, and soon, we enter the city.

After having a watchful eye cast upon us by the guards, we finally reach the city centre, a vast stone square full of fountains and shops. As we gaze around us, Tomeh slinks up to us, with his hands in his pockets. His hood is up, and his hands rest on his sickles. He looks on edge. As Mercury prepares a witty remark he says to us:
"They're not human"
"Who's not?" asks Cheddars, his interest piqued.
"The Guards, the merchants, the street cleaners, EVERYBODY!"
"Well, if they're not human, what are they then? Giraffes?" says Mercury, his wit now implanted into the conversation.
Tomeh glares at him."No. They're dead."
"Really... That's an interesting theory you've got there Tomeh. And how exactly are they all walking about? Or is it some kind of... Magic ... Woooo...." Jokes Mecury.
"No. The city leaders. They control them, like puppets. Do you know what a puppet is, Mercury? Or are they to backwards for you, time-traveller?!"
"Hey! Don't ..." Says Mercury, reaching for his weapons that he calls an 'uzi'
"If you guys don't stop arguing like a pair of old women..." I let the threat hang. Mercury crosses his arms and sulks, whilst Tomeh smirks slightly.
"Right. What do you mean by dead people, Tomeh?"
"Well, whilst you left me to stumble down a hole, I got out of it and ran here. I was going to wait for you, but I got bored, so I decided to... Explore. I ended up climbing up the side of the building over there" he points into the distance towards a tower rising from the centre of the city, "And ended up underneath a window ledge, and I heard a conversation, but it sounded like only one person was there, and they didn't sound crazy. And they were saying something about the 'Necratome', which sounds like some kind of book on necromancy. I got interested, so I decided to have a look over the edge. I didn't get a chance to who the guy was talking, but I did see what was on the walls. It was men, women and children, all nailed to the walls through their wrists and ankles. And they had something, well, wrong with them... Some of them had their ribs torn open and were missing lungs and hearts, some were missing throats... But they were all alive. Not still alive and dying, but alive!"
Silence grips the group, the sort of silence that only real horror can invoke.
"I tested my theory out by trying to kill a civilian, and it wouldn't die. It's now locked up in a chest somewhere so it can't alert it's little pals, but still..."
"So what are we going to do about it then?..." I ask, tugging my hood on.
