Updated: My first level - "Beautiful Metroville"

Archive: 14 posts

My first level! I know it's pretty short and simple, but I thought I'd share it. My theme and idea behind it was a sort of tongue-in-cheek tribute to B-Movies where a Martian crash-lands on a distant planet and the first person he meets is incredibly accepting of his Martian ways. There was also a little bit of Cowboy Bebop in my inspiration, with the jazz music and the general relaxed atmosphere.

It was really designed as a single-player experience, though any amount can play. Enjoy!!

Jump on the shovel and let it launch you to the building. I suppose I should make that sensor visible or add a visual cue of some sort.2011-01-03 03:09:00

LBPC has LBP.me integration now.

This is the announcement (https://lbpcentral.lbp-hub.com/index.php?t=42634-LBP.me-Integration-Part-2!) and it tells you how.

You've got some potential there I think. Well my spaceship crashed and I certainly felt lost and alone. found it a bit different walking on the rubble--didn't really care for that-- then I got buzzed and impaled by my own engines!! (ouch, insult to injury). Bit o' dark matter and then a funny npc... ****nit? really? So I'm invited to roam the city, and up to this point things are alright... the platforming that follows is a little uninspired but fits the level... and the design using the 'city' cardboards is pleasing but the random stickers struck me quite odd... still I liked.

The problem here is the player doesn't necessarily know how to proceed. We see the switch on the bulldozer-- so we want to flip it-- but we don't have too-- confuses the player. If we drop on the wrong side of bulldozer (to flip a swich we dont have to...) were dead! Long story short loose the meaningless switch in bulldozer canopy. The flip from the shovel is just perfect! Weightless and fun! When I got to the sticker switch I could no longer discern a way to proceed. Gas in all directions!

Shows some promise... but needs work.

Hi, tried this again and managed to reach the next platform, activated the sticker switch which dropped score bubbles. I didn't see anywhere to go from here as the section seems to be surrounded by gas. It would be a really good idea to play this online yourself, and rather than show whoever joins what to do, see how they handle it as it should give good indication where you need to add direction.2011-01-03 23:57:00

Thanks for the feedback, guys! So it seems the general consensus is that I need to add some signs or visual cues, ways to make it easier to discern which direction to go. I'll do that next time I get a chance with the game, which will probably be on Wednesday. Oh how I hate not being able to take my PS3 to college

****nit? really?

Haha, I was trying to make him a sort of parody, goofy character, but maybe that was a bit too strong a word to put into his Magic Mouth. Maybe "the bomb" would be better.

It was supposed to be graffiti and random glued posters like you see in inner cities.

On hindsight it would be better to put a construction worker instead of a switch in the bulldozer. I was trying to add in a little bit of detail - I mean, how often do you see a completely empty bulldozer cab? Putting a construction worker inside and having him tell you to stand on the shovel would certainly kill two birds with one stone...

Shows some promise... but needs work.

Thanks for your feedback, means a lot. I'll definitely update this level when I have a chance and post about said updates in this thread.

I'll do my best to check back... I'll replay. Also check the area where I got stuck after the sticker-switch... I think something had to be missing.

cheers!

The smash was awesome, a bit more of a lead in perhaps with things going well, through a nie sky then waring buzzers and drop would make it even more exciting.

My ship is ruined!

I had no issues hopping through the rubble, funny how the ship falls into cubes however.... they don't build 'em like they used to.

The scale struck me as strange - as they friendly fellow who will fix my rocket is like 4- 7 stories high..... depending on the building

Some of the rusty platforms line up with the building windows - others don't i think all lined up would look better so it is more like a ledge.

I knew to what to do with the bulldozer because of hat others had said - but a general roadwork sense around there would be good for some context.

o issues with where to go - but that platform i bashed my head on after being flung like so much dung from the bulldozer, could have some prize bubbles on it to tempt people back that way after the sticker switch.

The polystyrene swing balls - seem to be just in no where, and one assume the chain is a clue where to go down - wrong, even if i hold r1 to grab that ball, the gas kills me as you tend to swing a bit dropping from much a height.

The sign promised mobsters I was looking forward to cheesy mobster lines during a gun fight. Also the dude who fixed the rocket is just standing on nothing - or did he bungee?

Please F4F Lost Christmas Tree Angel (http://lbp.me/v/vnzt8p) Thread for feedback is here (https://lbpcentral.lbp-hub.com/index.php?t=42218-Lost-Christmas-Tree-Angel)

Ok i just played your level and let me tell you that this level is good at the beginners level. The intro of the level is a little strange because you just come in and the ship just comes in and hits the earth. Also the visualization is a little off because you only use the metropolise material and then put stickers. Jumping in the small platform in cool but wend I got to the vehicle of the level I got stuck because I don't know how to use it.

results.
Visualization: :start::start:
Music/sound objects: :start::start:
Theme: :start::start::start:
Originality: :start::start:

Sadly I gave your level a :start::start: sorry, but this level is good for a beginner but you need to improve your level by creating your own material background, fix the bugs of the level, create different platform, ect.

If you want go to the tutorial section it will help a lot

OK, everyone, I tried to take a lot of your advice and have updated my level! Re-reviews would be appreciated and of course I will give F4F (It just may take a while since I'm not always at a place where I can play LBP.) Thank you all for your feedback! 2011-01-06 04:49:00
