So um. . .

What's with all the bots? Did CC sell LBPC to some advertisement sharks or something?

Seriously. They pop up every 2 seconds, and now they're starting to actually participate. . .

Just report them... It's true we've been getting more sneaky bots around the place that are less obvious and easy for us to find ourselves, so reporting them makes things easier and gets rid of them quicker 2010-12-31 09:50:00

I have found them in blogs also. They post a seemingly harmless blog that resembles a mad lib page for example:

This strange thing happened to me earlier today. I was walking around in my cheap boots when all of a sudden some replica watches appeared out of nowhere.

Who buys that stuff from bots anyway?

So whats a bot? I know I can probably find this out via google but they got to it first:

I know it's some sort of programme envolved with spam, but what are they doing on THIS site, I havn't noticed.

My understanding is that a "BOT" is a program that randomly goes and posts adverts on forums while posing as a user.

The ones in the blogs tend to be relatively unsubtle, in the way that KILLA TODZILLA suggests, though I've seen some that actually look pretty legitimate apart from a single innocuous link towards the bottom.

In the forums we've started getting ones that either create a post by copying sections of other people's posts from earlier in the thread, or by posting generic responses to threads that have titles they recognise. Typically, these are harder to spot from the content, but they normally have a link along the lines of Debt Management (www.lbpcentral.com) in their sigs.

As for who actually buys stuff from the links they post, probably no-one, but search engine bots will follow them, and SE tech is all about the links

I haven't noticed any for a while, the only one I can remember was from ages ago with a huge wall of post about what deals you could get at what place.2011-01-02 19:11:00

There was a bot around here a few weeks back, advertising a Russian dating site.

I visited it and I must say I was quite satisfied with the service. Natalya is a real peach.

Most bots I see stay around the general chats and general gaming. There was one on the minecraft thread I remember. They tend to have terrible grammar and just speak so vague like "this game is one of my favourites, whenever I see games like the one this site advertise I always tend to Doritos"

I always just report them and the posts tend to disappear. Thanks Mods XD

I really hope my Sarcasm 3000 is jamming and I can't tell sarcasm well anymore and that this is all sarcasm, if it's not, you're starting to get VERY dull Silver. The link is to LBPC.

lol, you think I wouldn't click a link before posting?
Of course I knew it lead to LBPC, but what's the fun in that?

Also, what do you mean "Starting"?
There hasn't been much in the forums to actually spark my interest and try to "undull."(or whatever its called, if ther's even a word for it.)
In short, there's not really any reason to even try atm.
