http://i945.photobucket.com/albums/ad295/Loftsage/APhoto_22.jpgYou are Gravel Marvel. Super Hero. The year is 2012. LBP2 has been delayed now for 15 months. Sony has contacted you to investigate Mm's new headquarters and bring back their play, create, share- Jewel. What will you find?
Hey all! Just finished a level in LBP1 (actually two levels ) that I hope you'll find interesting. The first, Gravel Marvel: Hero 4 Hire, will find you in the employ of Sony Corp. Hired to break-in and steal LBP2 from under Mm's noses. It's the set-up to the unlockable level, Gravel Marvel: What Can I Say?

http://i945.photobucket.com/albums/ad295/Loftsage/APhoto_29.jpg

This phantasy is set in 2012... as the oft delay LBP2, is still waiting for release. The Levels are designed for 1P and you will need community items on in order to complete them.

These levels have been broken on my moon in several various abandoned stages for nearly two years. While they are not ground-breaking LBP2 levels... I'd like to think there are some moments here that you will never see... on LBP2. (In particular, I favour LBP's lighting.)

http://i945.photobucket.com/albums/ad295/Loftsage/APhoto_28.jpg

They were started before I even heard the rumours of LBP2 and felt they should see some light of day before LBP is fully eclipsed... perhaps I am already too late.

So if you're in the mood for something a little...different. Hard. Beautiful. Great. Tricky... and Frustrating! [My earned labels] you should check them out!

This is Gravel Marvel... just in case you'd like to play in appropriate garb.:hrmf:

I really enjoyed this one. It had awesome visuals with some very different gameplay. It had a few problems that that might frustrate some players. In the very beginning, the camera changes angles so fast that it can mess you up on the first jump. The first chain after you get the 3 stickers doesn't have a very fluid swing to it. It almost has a shake or vibration to it. The first sticker switch worked great, but the 2nd one was very hard to find the exact spot to place it on the terminal. The last sticker switch was very hard to see because it was so dark. I also didn't receive a key to the locked level. Other than the few problems, the level was awesome.

Thanks so much Mr. Orange. Really impressed by your skill and of course... your good taste! Sorry about the key but rest assured if you're interested in carrying-on, I don't think it'll be locked very long. Not sure how much interest an odd LBP1 level can really create in the current LBP2 climate. Just know in your future, you have a series of obstacles to which the secret of a high-score is... not dying! (very often) :hrmf:2010-12-31 08:12:00

I finally managed to check out your level, and by the end I'm gald I did. This level has so many new concepts that I never before on LBP seen. The visual work was amazing you created a thrilling storyline and the only thing I wanted more was so see the ending. Sadly even though I got a key at the end of your level the next Gravel Marvel was locked so I might have to do another run through later just to get that key.

I'll start of at the start, the storyline you set for the level was anything than brilliant. The angles you used espicialy the last angle when you can see sacks face is great, mostly because of the lighting. Oh, I just forget, this level has some of the best uses of lights in LBP. Now when you actully start moving the bubles combos where great but on the second jump in front of the Mm sign I couldn't get all teh buubbles and once, I had to skip the first few just to manage to make it to the other side. As well when I just started the level I didn't see the platforms or the gas so I just walked across. Maybe you should make the jumps more obvious by emiiting the bubbles before you jump and maybe add some lights. Anyway most of that paragraph was me being fussy but I think I had some good points in there. I think...

Anywho as you move on to riding the garbage can lid across the power lines it was really hard to know what to do, till I found that you made a speech bubble for the occasion. Near the end of what the creature was saying he said something like this, "jump off when you see me again", now I couldn't see the creature, but I think thats just my TV. But for the few who have really dar screen TV maybe you should but a light underneath the creature so it still has the scary look but then you know what to do.

Then we reach the bonce pads and the were really annoying for me, because some of the lights didn't have lights attached. Anyway I didn't know that in that section you where looking for stickers because I have the community stuff things were you dont collect objects or stickers it was only when I saw a sticker I put the allow comminty stuff. At the start of the level you should put a sign saying you have allow comminty objects in order to complete this level. And when I fell down that area I say a green led. I'm not sure if I was or was not meant to see that but just telling you its there.

Now we move on to that little entrance thing to the Mm HQ, after you blow the little box up even though your meant to jump down the back of the area I jumped throught the remains of the little box and fell right through till I hit the ground of the level. That might need some fixing, anyway form there on I new this would be a level I would play many times before the release of LBP2.

One problem I did have though the same one I metioned eailer is that when I picked up the key I still couldn't play the next one because somehow it was still locked.

Overall this level was amazing, great use of lights, fun yet frustrating puzzles and an awesome plot. All I can think of doing now is to play the next one. Great work, form the minute I entered the level I new it would be a 5 star level. But I gave it :star::star::star::star::star: and a <3. I want more!!!!!!!

Metalhead- Not sure how you did it but your exhuberance got me excited to play my own level! Thank You for the kind words and several of your suggestions do hold alot of merit! Mulling them over. I'm really glad you enjoyed it! Since my levels do not attract a large audience... it really is nice when I meet someone who gets it. If you really like stories you may like to check out this levelhttps://lbpcentral.lbp-hub.com/index.php?t=30638-The-GREAT-TREE-Prologue-(1P)-Stand-And-Be-Counted.(spotlit-w-HD-pics)

Booxley- Thanks for finding me! LBP is the game I waited for all my life... I love my levels... I have not confirmed I am moving over to LBP2... I mean somebodys gonna have to mind the gardens with the rest of the community away!

Tomodon-Thanks as well for finding me! I do! I do love lbp.me

This KEY problem is really bothering me. The levels were made to stand together... Looks like I'll be unlocking it tonight before I turn in... Looks like the lot of you will be on the honour system that you finished the first one properly. Stupid keys.:hrmf:

Yay! I made it through!

The one player warning is well heeded by anyone playing this one. I tried with three and it's just not gonna happen easily.

Well, what can I say? It's got your beautiful visual sensibilities all over it Gravel Love the opening sign and really love the lighting/shadow effect you got on the GRAVEL copy. The shadows and background silhouettes are just lovely too.

Gameplay wise it's tighter than a lot of your stuff that I've played. It's linear and there isn't much guesswork as to where to head next and I liked that. The camera after the opening billboard makes the jump to the left a bit of a leap of faith but it's minor imo. I haven't played the second level yet but I bet it's just as pretty as this one.

Gave it 5 stars & hearted it.

I''m really not sure where I should post my review on the second of this series but I have decided since I cant locate a thread anywere else I'll just write it here.

This level was something I had been waiting for ever since I played the first one, (I'd say about a day ago, not very long) and I was very glad you gave me no dissapointments. The simplistic yet beautiful design is amazing, once again you have made my day. These kind of creations give many creators, such as myself inspiration to make their own levels. By the sight of the level I can see a lot of time and effort must have gone in to create this masterpiece.

I played this lvel not long ago but somehow if I have forgotten some areas I'm sorry. At the start I straight away notice the logic yo used to create the moving buildings, this was a great design but it looked a bit repitive. I'm not sure if you would have used the same techniqe I would have used (were you emmit a block of dark matter with a piston attached sending the block attached straight down) but maybe you could think about extending the moving block to have some windows with lights and some not. My way of describing things may not make sence to you at all so if you dont understand what I getting at dont worry. A you continue you have the flying purple words, something you word expect to see as you fall down from a tower that never ends untill you turn of the jet pack which you pick up from a floating circle (doesn't Little Big Planet make sense). Something I am confused about is that you have put bubbles on the buildings concrete, and you cant even reach them with your jet pack. Unless there is a reason that I dont understant (this is quite likely) I recomend you remove them to stop players from getting scores like 999999999999. Anyway I'm not sure if I took the correct route down but I just cut the jet pack and fell on a cop car and jumped in the Mm entrance. Thats a weird place to put that though.

One of the highlights of this level was the way you created the Mm area. It looked awesome! But then all was ruined the king of frustration the sculpture. The ultimate doom, I had some much trouble completing this area. You should put down infinate life checkpoints, because of that area I had to restart the level twice! Anyway this could annoy players put I wasn't going to flee on of the greatest challenge of the sacks. Once I had completed the tower I moved on to the super confusing floaty machine. This area really needs some tips because I was completly clueless on what to do. Anyway once I had finished the reall confusing floaty spinning wheel I moved one to the sliding lights (this is quite a 'weird' level). I had some trouble jumping from light to light in this area, maybe attach some platforms on top of the lights to help the weaker players of LBP (me).

Now we move on to the lights attached to floating sponges. The lights had some cool effect in this level, because you set the lenght to the smallest it made a flat line of light which really worked in this type of level. I cheated in this area because the plasma ball made it really hard to make it across so I used the sponges on top to make my way across. You manage to make some of the hardest levels on LBP and somehow I never give up, all thanks because I want to see the end of the storyline.

I can't remember what happened if anything till we get up to the next thing I remember the moving turrents. Area took along time for me but it was clear where to go and you finally ended the level and I think the series, if I was paying any attention. This level was mind blowing in neally every way. There were a few areas here and there that looked a little blank, like the random switch that you find if you keep walking along in the Mm building. What amazed me most was the videos you created. A similar thng that on of the Mm picks used in the level called The Movies, (hey, free advertising).

I loved this level and I'm glad you unlocked the level before I started going crazy. Amazing level, a level which deserves way more attention the it gets. :star::star::star::star::star: and a <3 for me, I also checked out the level you recomended me and I'm not sure if you want me to write a review, anyway great work and I'm hoping you make an apperence in LBP2

Happy Creating

The entire LSAT has already queue'd and will be paying your level later, along with a review from each of its members (sadly I'm the onlymember atm), tho tbh, even if I wasn't on the LSAT I still would probably done that, since there's yet to be a GRAVEL level to dissapoint yet!. 2011-01-04 11:52:00

Gravel Marvel: Hero 4 Hire & What can I say?

The artwork in both levels was just amazing, such creative lighting, stunning environments and perfect for the theme with a real sense of fun and adventure. Loved the humorous dialogue in both.

Unfortunately the problem I had was that I was unable to complete either of them due to the level of difficulty. On Hero 4 Hire I restarted numerous times (an infinite life checkpoint would be a bonus next to the bin lids) but I couldn't get further than the yellow arrows which I think were after the third or fourth run. I jumped where I thought I was supposed to jump as I noticed the creature perched on the edge, but each time ended in either sudden death or me having to induce my own, usually by jumping off that "so close" light bulb

On the second level I couldn't reach the top of the sculpture or make it past the swinging lights, although I used the top grab route I died each time trying to swing from the second or third platform to reach the next.

I'm not the greatest player, and so I wasn't sure if my failings were down to poor gameplay skills or just the merciless hands of a very complex creators mind. Amazing scenery, your artistic flair put me in complete awe, but its a shame I didn't get to see both levels in there entirety.

Gravel Marvel: Hero 4 Hire
+ Interesting story.
+ Difficult but very enjoyable gameplay with the hover board.
Ever thought about easing the player into difficulty at the start of the level though?
- You can over shoot the last hoverboard jump. Grab material helps though.
-+ Unclear direction on "Hero" text? It may not be, not sure.
+ Bouncy gameplay. I found the centre sticker/bubble a little hard to find.
+ Awesome secret sticker switch computer thingee.
- A little dark in the next room. Perhaps modify the light properties? So it shines more frequently/brighter/longer/etc.
+ Bungeeeee!

Nice lighting/sound/visuals. The power lines impressed me the most visually.
Satisfying!
Must replay again to beat shropshire-lass...

Gravel Marvel: What can I say?
-+ What can I say? I was confused at the start. I didn't know what to do, then I saw the eagle's eyes light up, but it didn't do anything.
I think it would be better if you had to jetpack left>right>repeat to light up a sequence of eagles which stops the infinite elevator. Or something.
Like most of your stuff, weird but cool enough to get away with it.
-+Sculpture! The player really has to watch their layer switching here.
I like how the hazard gives an audio warning if you get too close.
- Wheel of death. Can be too tough. The elevator machine broke off a few times, combined with a four(?!) life checkpoint I was not very impressed (either reclimb tower, or pop to re-attempt and use up a life).
Either make the elevator unbreakable, or add a bigger checkpoint please. But perhaps the fail safe is enough..
+ Next section I liked. All about the timing, similar to (but not as annoying as) the infamous pencils in your Muppet level.
-+ Is it even possible to swing across via the lights? I had to use the above path of grabbable pink (not sure if that is intentional, I never know with you. )
- The turrents. I don't see much point to them? You pop their bubble, (but they don't die) and you can simply layer switch to avoid them.
- Air vent didn't push me high enough 80% of the time. Is there a trick to it?
- Camera angle before the grabbable ceiling/rotating things. (When player is behind pink glass)
+ Gameplay. Some cool stuff in there.
- Unfortunately, you can bypass 80% of going left/right gameplay by using the rotating things to launch sackboy up really high.
-+ Also, possible to get infinite points on the "go up" things (before scoreboard) by hanging of the point? (round hazard can't hit you, but bubbles can)

Phew. Cool stuff.
I'm glad you broke it into two levels to give the thermo a break for once. Room for potential fixes perhaps?
Visual logic throughout, but I'm sure that's intentional.
When I saw that first picture in this thread (the one with giant arrows), I thought you finally sold out. Not so thank goodness!
The best thing about these levels coming from you, is that you tuned down the frustrating gameplay, and converted it into "difficult but satisfying" gameplay. Definitely getting better as a creator in that respect.
As usual, visuals/lighting/story/characters/uniqueness are there in spades.
I look foward to when you perfect your brand of challenging gameplay. That will be a great day for the community!

Gravel Marvel: Hero 4 Hire
Ever thought about easing the player into difficulty at the start of the level though?
Thanks so much for your kind words and time... YES-- You have no idea how many hours playtesting that hoverboard/telephone lines game-mechanic I've wasted... trust me it's easing you in even if you dont realize it... it underwent a billion different incarnations before I felt the 'implemented one' fair. Still, I wanted to bring it back again about 3/4 of the way through the level or maybe at a boss fight... and thought... I just can't do that to people... Fair is fair. The other thing is, BAM! from the get-go, you're a Super hero it sets a players expectations-- I may be called upon to do 'Super' things.
- You can over shoot the last hoverboard jump.
So true!!! but there's things to grab hold of which may or may not reward you...
-+ Unclear direction on "Hero" text? It may not be, not sure.
Yeah, I hear ya... I'm really hopeing the spotlight on the 'zip'line would be enough...( i hope)
+ Bouncy gameplay. I found the centre sticker/bubble a little hard to find.
Again, I do hear ya... Do you think perhaps a differing flashing color other than green might help?
- A little dark in the next room. Perhaps modify the light properties?
I'm on your page again. I labeled the stickers, hack#; 1,2,3-- as it was the third stage I felt process of elimination was my friend Also the sticker because of the Gravel cube acts funny appears on every wall... as well as doesn't mak any noise or can not be seen...even in create mode
+ Bungeeeee!
I hope everybody gets it!

Must replay again to beat shropshire-lass...

Hi-scoring tip #1 Each of the 'Fists of GRAVEL' represent a bonus in the immediate vacinity...
Hi-Scoring tip#2 The start of the level can be combo'd in one painfully long skillfull-swwoop (up to the Gravel sign and HQ) It's like 3,000 pts I think... did it last night... it's hard.

Well I wanted it to smack you upside the head... Simply put it's a bit of a mini-game... it's just my version of the Marvel pack elevators but with some scoring potential thrown-in.
Like most of your stuff, weird but cool enough to get away with it.

- Wheel of death. Can be too tough...But perhaps the fail safe is enough..
Oh you found that did you? That was my thinking as well... if you used up 7 lifes your bound to fall on top of this at sometime!
+ Next section I liked. All about the timing, similar to (but not as annoying as) the infamous pencils in your Muppet level.
Thank You. Naked spotlight bulbs make appearances in almost all of my levels--I love them! Can be difficult making the player accept them... (anybody remember the 'Harrison Fjords flak'?)

-+ Is it even possible to swing across via the lights?
Yes, and it takes a bit of skill... and lot of timing! ( Good thing your observant )
- The turrents. I don't see much point to them? You pop their bubble, (but they don't die) and you can simply layer switch to avoid them.
Agreed just to keep your head in the game... a pt opportunity, and I like them.
- Air vent didn't push me high enough 80% of the time. Is there a trick to it?
Yeah, R1 repeatedly rapidly... the thought being the rigours are taking their toll even on one such as Gravel.
- Camera angle before the grabbable ceiling/rotating things. (When player is behind pink glass)
I'll look to tweak this.
- Unfortunately, you can bypass 80%...
Well yes, unfortunately You are right! Probably more like 20% ...but where's the fun in that? Also would impact any hunt for Hi-score! I more impressed you perceived an actual path (rarity)
-+ Also, possible to get infinite points on the "go up" things (before scoreboard) by hanging of the point? (round hazard can't hit you, but bubbles can)
Hmmm... In my testing, I usually break even of lose scoring here... It would take an insane amount of good Luck to hang a BIG #. I'll keep my eyes peeled though if the level ever catches on...

It has a shelf life of about... oh (5 -18= 13) say 2 weeks.:hrmf:

The best thing about these levels coming from you, is that you tuned down the frustrating gameplay, and converted it into "difficult but satisfying" gameplay. Definitely getting better as a creator in that respect.
Thank You! Not backing away from the challenge... just trying to refine it... All your comments good and bad carry the weight of a friend. Thanks Again so much for your time and plays!!!

As usual, visuals/lighting/story/characters/uniqueness are there in spades!
I look foward to when you perfect your brand of challenging gameplay.
ME TOO.

A ?uniquely Gravel? level indeed! As ever it looked great. I love the dramatic, cinematic qualities of your visuals and lighting effects. Those beautiful glowing signs splashed against the night sky were just lovely. In fact the whole rooftops at night setting was a joy to explore.

Fun storyline too ? I loved the superhero elements and especially the little terminal which rises out of the ground and the brief glimpse of Alex Evans (amazing character work again!) telling me to come back through the front door, lol! You really made the whole thing feel like an adventure.

The level wouldn?t be a Gravel level without some innovative gameplay to top off the visual artistry. My favourite section had to be the jump pads ? exhilarating and slightly mad at the same time. The same goes for flying along the power lines on a dustbin lid. Oh and while we?re on the subject of that hair-raising ride I would like to point out that there is one side advantage of having a tricky section at the beginning of the level - at least those who have to re-start (*cough*) only have small section to replay!

I think both Morgana and Midnight-Heist hit the nail on the head when they said that the level, whilst retaining its unique Gravelness (??), was just a little kinder to the player. On the whole I knew where to go and what to do. I think I only really struggled at the tower room with bombs in it. The first time I played I gave up on trying to sticker inside it, thinking the sticker must instead be required later in the level. But as I simply flung myself off the building to the right I got to the scoreboard anyway so no big deal.

The only other issue I had was also very minor (and probably down to my lack of skill anyway). Both times I played, the ?Fist of Gravel? by the criss-crossing double spotlights showered out points bubbles but I could only manage to get to about 2 of them ? the rest going to waste (or should that be ?waist??)! Sorry, couldn't resist!

Thank you for another very cool level. I?m so sorry to hear that you?re not sure you will be creating in LBP2. I do hope it grows on you! If not, I guess we?ll all have to return occasionally to LBP to visit you in your Thoreau-esque exile.

Five stars and a heart.

"Well, I gotta tell ya... yesterday was a tuff day!"
:hrmf:

100 plays in six days...

Listen... I'm a grown man with grown-up responsibilities... that I seek mass acceptance from an audience of videogame players, by and large, whom I've never met... never really struck me as strange until yesterday. Now I don't believe in comparing creators-- each brings something unique to the Craftearth and those that don't well... I don't have time for them. I am dis-heartened. I've been at this awhile now and continue to improve... The Muppet Level,https://lbpcentral.lbp-hub.com/index.php?t=24744-The-MUPPET-Level, was mentioned in the 'also from the showcase' of a lbpc Spotlight, and My Great Tree levels , https://lbpcentral.lbp-hub.com/index.php?t=24744-The-MUPPET-Level,were spotlit... So I do realise-- I am one of the Lucky Ones. These new levels are both over 4 :star: and have been hearted handsomely... I even got to see my level under the 'trending' catagory on lbp.me for whatever that's worth... and then the reality struck reading the last couple of posts...

"Why do I want, what I really don't want?"

First-off, It's not gonna happen. My levels opened to the masses may bring about some world-wide-mass-hysteria... perhaps, just perhaps, I am not suitable for mass consumption. I don't think... they'd enjoy me! Second, I've never been particularly fond of the flockers; gatherers; followers and such.

Thirdly, is it so bad to create for an audience of say 60? I mean it enables us to share a rapport-- I actually know the people who play and heart my levels... and I'd like to think you've peered through an Mm open window into who and what I am...

and I think, I'm okay with that...

Thanks to a few friends who inadvertently helped me work through this (unknown to them)... Oh, and if you haven't played it yet Lightmare's latest is GREAT! https://lbpcentral.lbp-hub.com/index.php?t=42906-Frigid-Facade-(Pics)(It was tough watching it fly by me... even tougher the second part... but, that's just not to be my fate and I am sure there's a good reason-- like I'm not that good...)

Also you should try Morris's Search for more Skillz Level...https://lbpcentral.lbp-hub.com/index.php?t=42867-That-Search-for-More-Skills He's really quite skilled!

Finally, being who and what I am allows me to post this...

The Janining Document

Sorry your having problems on the telephone wires... rest assured, it's not you-- the player... The fault lies with me the creator. So how best to get you through... with your 16 tries? (idk, it's 2 double check points!)

Lets restate what's in the level itself--
hop onto the bin/can lid.
get centered
'R1' will propel you forward.
acceleration is best done on the'downslope'
mid-point (or so...) you need to release 'R1'
ideally, both you and lid will tandemly traverse the gaps. Your floating! Weightless..."Wheeee-e"
'R1' or regrabbing while in mid-aire will likely cause you to topple.
as you 'land' a succesful gap-transfer re-engage 'R1'
speed is not necessary, each succesful transfer gains you momentum... infact too much speed is bad!
the last jump is just a matter of jumping left... there are plenty of areas to land on and all are grabbable to stop your velocity!
Perfect execution and landing will result in a 'Fist of Gravel' bonus.
Once you do one jump succesfully... you have something to build-on
Incidentally, if you foul-up the last jump... there are layer thick arrows pointing out the "Hero4Hire" landing zone. It is possible to jump from these arrows to the 'landing zone'

I really hope this helps you! it's smoothing sailing then... until you reach the fire-escape/jump-pads

oh, and not that it was on your minds... but it's a done deal, I'll be moving over to lbp2. I haven't deciced yet on the fate of my LBPONE lvls... (they look bad on lbp2's engine)

You better be getting LBP2. If not, I am sending you a copy and will hound you till you pop it in and do something with it. So there mister!!! lol

Oh I did have a few minutes to play this. Wonderful stuff. I got whisked away before I was able to complete as I was meeting up with some folks for my spotlight duties, but wow.. I love the trash can lid telephone wires bit. That was fun!!! The intro was superb!!

Wohoooo,

I finally made it! (ok, after your totally 'short' list of hints it would be very ashaming for me not to make it....so I gave everything!). When I think about it, once I got it, it really wasn't that hard at all...Ah, all came after it was worth the 16 tries (actually that's not the right number of tries. But I will keep it a secret, because unlike to what you stated I'm certain that it was my player-fault..you should have seen it, it was a shame ).

I think I have to play the Level again, because I missed a lot.

I love the Level. Besides the Atmosphere I really love the Humor....

Thank you for all your tipps!

It was my pleasure.

edit: funny how things work sometimes... Thanks to ladlyn1 I'm running a little experiment. To see how this level fares with an opportunity of page one expousure... I'm thinking it's good I came to terms with things yesterday... because although early... Gravel clearly is not a page one flavour... "Why do I want, what I really don't want?" This is great!

158 plays in 8 days/ 4star /19 level hearts /5 creator hearts

VS.

4777 plays in 2 days/ 3 stars /147 level hearts / 39 creator hearts

let the games begin... I'm alittle surprised it's holding up as well as it is... and the second level is holding at 4 stars.

lol... You almost have to have walk through or as Poms calls them "fast food" levels for that type of goodness from the front page. I used to make it, but found with my first Space Escape, you take a huge hit in stars. ..though most of that was due to the ratings glitch and them being down the first 3 days of my 7 day reign. I think I already had over 2300 plays before it was back online and that seemed to firmly cement it at 3 stars to this day.. Oh well.. having one of the most underrated and most overrated levels of all time is not too bad an achievement eh? lol

..here in a bit, I will be again tackling this Gravel adventure. Oh yes.. I will conquer it without screaming. ..well, hopefully not too much at least.

He screamed, folks. Just thought you ought to know.

I do say that the trash can lids are very life like. Their aerodynamics are exactly what one would expect from a trash can lid with a rocket attached! lol This is so fun. So much has already been said but just want to say I'm so glad we have a creator like you around, Gravel. Please join us in LBP2.

Okay, played it. Here's some feedback:

Riding the trash can lid - great idea, and a lot of fun. VERY difficult, however. By spending a lot of time playing while creating it, you have probably mastered the art of trash can lid riding, however it takes a LOT of practice - and even then, it acts flaky...tending to suddenyl flip over on the player. I had several times where I somehow plummetted to the bottom of the level. And at the end of the ride, it was difficult to tell where to jump. You may need a zoom out camera right near the end so the player can tell where they're jumping to.

The bouncy-buttons-collect-the-stickers part - very cool! Had a great feel to it, however.... the camera angles made it difficult to navigate the jumping and see where the targets and stickers are. I would strongly suggest more of a straight-on camera angle that doesn't change so much. It would make this part much more fun.

Over all, really innovative and GREAT graphics. I had a lot of fun with it, however if I didn't know you.... I probably wouldn't have tried the many many times it took to get past the trash can lid part. Regardless, a great time!

Hey Gravel, I finally got to the scoreboard. Gotta say that for all my complaining about the difficulty of this level, it wasn't too hard at all following your tips, and yayy, I came 2nd. Funny how when you take a break from something, the next time you try it its usually much easier.

I'm really glad I got to see the rest of this level, the bounce pads were so much fun and the rooftop visuals were just beautiful. I know you said you don't really feel your levels were made for mass consumption, but there were 24 other people playing this online last night at the same time as me!.

I just notice I played this on 2p with Mr. Orange earlier this week but I played it on 1p to refresh myself. Even though the lid rid is a little tricky its very fun! Especially on 2p. I was even thinkng you could make some kind of minigame from it. The jump pad area was cool and the use of tags and sensors as stickers was brilliant. Your use of the VR materials and lights is nice and set your level apart from others.

The 2nd level tried to get to get to me. I couldnt get any points from those rising legdes. Well I did but I would lose them quick. I can see why theyre fast though but if someone was good at it, couldnt that be an exploit? I had some trouble with the hexagon (?) sculpure but it was my fault. So I got to see your funny messages every time you fall XD. The switch ride was unique. Haven't seen that done before. Those darn lights...they gave my brother a good laugh as he seen me get fried multiple times but I got though. Very tricky indeed. The last area was my favorite. Liked all the room

Thanks for your responses, all well justified.
I don't think you needed to type out instructions for the first section though. It's all there in the magic mouths in the level.
After playing that section a few times, it is amazingly balanced. Especially when sackboy lifts off the board and lands directly on it onver the jumps.
It definitely gave me that superhero feeling after I made it through.

Glad you did that cool pages experiment. It's interesting to see the results. Hopefully those creator hearts serve you in the long run.
Why is it only 3 stars, when all the LBP.me players have rated 4 or 5? Does lower ratings not show up or something?

(continued)

challenges and the little secret (I think its a secret) you put in there. Overall it was a very cool series of levels with some challenge. I like that you dont spoon feed players with easy difficulty and infinite life CPs as I think its part of your style. Loved both of these lvls. Cant wait to see what you do on LBP2.

So I had come to terms with the relative anonymity of my creation style... afterall, it seemed a fair-enough trade-off considering the relative critical respect I had achieved here at Lbpcentral... Lo and Behold Ladylyn1 offered me a unique opportunity... (Thanks again Dude!) in the form of piggybacking for plays ...and well now, it would seem... critical respect (in the form of being spotlit) is out the window!

"I guess it's just one of life's little give and takes-- but I must confess I am deeply disappointed for these levels."

I know they can be tough at first pass (ahem) but consider this if you will... here @ LBPC

4:stars:

1 out of every 6 finish
1 out of every 8 heart(and thank you for that btw)

2 out of 4 spotlighteers did not play...if there's only four

I'm afraid I failed to show any quality in the 2 single plays I got from the Spotlighteers... so I'm mad at myself.

So, play my level and witness my latest, greatest failure... now labeled 'black'd-out edition', (their pretty freakin' cool... but please remember, your playing a Super Hero here! You need 'skill' and fortitude...and maybe more than one play:hrmf I think you may enjoy them.

Heylo Gravel, we meet again.

I'm going to give you some feedback in the form of 'good stuff' and 'stuff to think about' like I normally do, but I want to do so with you in the knowledge that I didn't know where to go after that white bounce pad section.

Good stuff

- The pseude-3d 2d decorations were delicious, as they always are on your levels.

- Your characterisation and unique 'skills' gives an unmissable humour to your levels. This is the sort of level that would be super suited to LBP2, with playing as a sackbot super hero. Just another reason that you definitly need to get the sequel...(i'll hunt you down if you don't)

- The level (what i saw of it) had good pacing and all of the scenery was proportioned well and kept in ratio. However...

Stuff to think about

- Darkness! Now, the point that I managed to play to is perhaps the worst offender of this.
I'd recommend one of two routes, either change the background colour to grey or light blue to create the silhouette effect or maybe tone down the darkness slider a little bit.
Then problem is that I have a blackish costume (I did try to emulate your costume but I think thin gas got in the way of my stickering) and that on a black background, trying to land on white jump pads is very hard.
It's not the gameplay that is the problem here, sometimes your game flow is a little abstract but this is relatively straight forward!

- Maybe think about making that dustbin lid respawn by itself. I know the logic is a little fiddly, I can help you with that if you want or if you want to do it then i'm sure there'll be a tutorial kicking around for something like that. Or at the least consider making it a button, rather than a 3 way switch.

- The lever hidden on the side of the letter before the 'zip' section was very tucked away, lol. I know you've got a fetish for making players walk on text but maybe think about putting that lever on the top section of a letter rather than on the side.

Basically, I know you're great at making scenery, your great tree level proved this, but you hid behind too much darkness on this one making it harder to play than it has to be.

Hey Absestos... I really appreciate you going back and giving this another try... thank you sincerely... I can not fathom how you could be stuck where you are... but I guess I have to accept it.

So... the background is dark but nowhere near black... it took a good forty tries to get it that exact colour where the reds, golds, greens, and purples all look just like that... it certainly wasn't random or ill thought-- but, I get your point.

the dust bin. I guess it could get monotonous flicking the switch (i'm no guru logic head like you!) but thought the average little big player is in a frenzy to move to the right... this is not conducive to one of my levels... or the action needed at hand, (the pause) would force the player to slow down.

I do not agree this level would be suited for lbp2... first-off I cant get those stupid sackbots to do my bidding and secondly, I wouldn't be able to get this lighting scheme... there are a lot of spots in this level.

I am really at a bizzarre crossroads. I'm not an Egomaniac... despite the current level title... but I never saw this level as being anything but spotlight. I really feel bad right now. Well, back to the drawing board for you brave 177 plays... this time without some of that apparent over-confidence.

NOTE: I wrote this before reading any reviews or your own comments... so any repetition is not my fault.

I like to review as I play it, so that’s what I’ll be doing—a sort of play-by-play commentary, if you will.

++Love the intro. I think there might be a tad bit much dialogue, but sometimes that’s necessary. It’s a good way to start off the character, great super-hero style introduction. Good job.
-I ran off the edge at the very beginning (to the left). Both times I played. Also, the jumps are just a tad far. And those points go away if you wait too long.
--It’s very dark. Very. I could barely see where I was going. My monitor is brighter, so I usually don’t have this problem, but I’m playing this on my roommate’s TV. You’ll have a lot of players that have a wide range of contrasts on their screens, and here some just won’t be able to see.
+The visuals (what I can see) are great. I like the starting sign, the floating stars, the lighting and the buildings in the background.
--The trash can lid surfing was a great idea, but it just didn’t work. I flipped it, fell off, fell behind, got ahead, so on and so forth. I died twenty times (I counted) and had to restart twice… at that point I just gave up. Now, I’m not spectacular at platforming, but I’m not very bad either. Most of your players will be around my skill range, and it’s just not going to work for them. EDIT: Read your instructions. Good, but if you honestly need to post that many instructions in the level AND here, people just aren't getting it.

My bet? Fix the darkness and the surfing and it’ll do much better. Rockets (and rocket-sled type gameplay) can be very fiddly unless you have things perfect. Now, with LBP2 and the gyro thing, you might be able to pull it off. I dunno, I simply couldn’t get further in the level to see the rest of it.

Cheers! Remember, your visuals and the dialogue/monologue is quite good. Keep creating, because you’ve got skills! Hopefully this helps.

Thank You- Thank You... of course it helps- every bit of feedback does. You got to see 2/10 of the level so clearly there is a problem...

-I ran off the edge at the very beginning (to the left). Both times I played. Also, the jumps are just a tad far. And those points go away if you wait too long.

See, this is all positive for me! Before we even begun, you have a backstory, highly stylized visuals, and have been warned consequences are deadly... Open your Eyes! That the level opens right to left is another tell-tale sign that things here might be a little less traditional... from that standpoint, I am encouraged. That I lost you in the very next part however-- is bad.

I expect average players to have to work hard at my levels and to learn from mistakes... why people are so afraid to let go of that lid while in the air is stymying-- even when they are instructed to do so. Too much challenge and innovation up front and the mechanic isn't flawless... oh those rockets as you say!

Still, how could I anything but appreciate your time. Thank You very much. And incidentally, I am not disappointed in any of the level stats here at LBPC... That it wasn't spotlite to receive all those extra plays does hurt... but seriously, how could you spotlight what you couldn't see?

Gravel- You sir are a wicked wicked man. You challenge the player to do more then just run through your levels. You challenge their brain and skill boundries. You reward us with stunning visuals. After SEVERAL plays, breaking the controller, fussing at anyone in sight and hours of attempts, I finally was able to complete your level. As usual you did not dissappoint. It is truly a pleasure for me to see how far you have come as a level creator. Your thought process is amazing.
One suggestion I would have would be a little more of a hint with the 3rd hacker sticker. Other then that my love/hate relationship with your levels continues.

Wow Lady! I really really liked that. Thank You and please apologize to Rick for the grousing he was at the wrong end of... I will try to focus some more attention on those bubbles perhaps change from the green glow throb I have currently to a strobe effect.

Incidentally, the check is in the mail... for that controller I irresponsibly broke! Thank You for Playing! And did you hang a ridiculously unreachable Hi-Score on this one as well?

I thought it was a great level. Maybe a bit wacky on the jump button camera angles that made some of those initial misses more than ummm.. errr.. exciting. lol

The first time I played it I only had issues with the room once past the backdoor. The next time though I was able to solve it, but not sure if I did something wrong or that was how it was meant to go. I don't want to give away any secrets so just pm me.

The level was a bit shorter than I expected, unless I REALLY did something wrong, but it was really fun and loved it. Even more once I got the hang of the garbage can lids. Surfs up !! The mini game you also published made up for this one being a bit short. That was an awesome game once you figured it out. Oh.. and I have some ideas for you on your next adventure if you are interested.

Thanks again for doing these. I feel like a back alley superhero for sure!!

Hey JWW-

Yeah it is short. It was supposed to be the set-up for the second locked level... (a prologue of sorts if you will). I felt it needed to be short as there really were two very difficult spots in it which I knew would add to the length of playing it... So according to gravel math... maybe it takes a half an hour of playing time that first time becasue everything is hard/foreign... On subsequent play thru's or a Hi-Score attempt your looking at like 8 minutes!

Ah, how familiarity breeds contempt eh? Block Hed was originally to be the end of GRAVEL MARVEL: What Can I Say? The general feeling being it was much too hard and no fun... So still, if you'd like to see a bit of what might have been--how the breaking into Mm was going to end... well, that'd be it!

Thank You very much for giving it a whirl! Did you play the second one? or is enough, enough?

edit: You do know there is a whole level ther right? At the bottom of the buildings... you go right... Right?

Yup.. I played the other one quite a few times. The first 5 or so before I figured out how to actually live for more than 2 seconds. lol

..but I got better!!

I mentioned that up there. I thought it was a really cool concept. I liked hopping down on the cop car and working it back up a bit. Really cool concept!
