Batteries?

I've heard people mention batteries in connection with LBP2 logic. What the heck are these things and what is their purpose?2010-12-27 14:49:00

They pretty much offer an input value to a switch for as long as it is in existence. So basically a permanent switch that cannot be turned on or off.

That may sound odd, but it is quite useful. I don't know much about logic, but when I was trying to make a Zelda esque game, I used a battery on a bomb to connect to the timer to blow it up. Since the battery is only on as long as it is in existence, when the battery is emitted as part of the bomb, it activates everything else right away.

So it's really just a perm switch that activates whatever it is hooked to as long as it exists :/

A perma-switch is not how I'd describe them. They have no inputs and their output is a constant 100%/On by default, but you can tweak the value. They're used to activate stuff like Magic Mouths on a microchip when it's turned on via the bottom input. Other that that, they don't immediately seem to have much use, but when you're doing more complicated (analog) logic, they become invaluable.2010-12-27 15:04:00

It not have anything to do with perm switch because you can't run on and off like switch suppose to do

I currently seen 2 perpeces of batteries:

-Parametric analog signal input setting for circuits, that can be used by end user of your microchip to tweak it, go see rtm analog signal blog you will see he used thrm for that
-Reliable stable source of analog signal with value as you want, since another ones is too dynamic so you can control analog signal more as you want, for example i used them to get static noise effect in Real TV!. You can turn on and off battery by place it in microchip

EDIT:
Oh i walso for got a Rogar said other perpece is to activate circut when microchip is turned on

I still don't quite get it. It is always set to on 100%? So couldn't you just turn whatever you want to be on and just have nothing hooked to it?2010-12-27 17:05:00

it can be set to any analog signal value 100%- 0% - -100%, by setting it 0% you also turning digital signal. Battery can't be turned off in natural way (via input) it can be only turned off by disabling microchip thta battery(s) are in, or on sequencer battery turn only if it's under cursor of sequencer.

I use batteries mainly in sequencers. They make extremely useful tools here, since you can stretch their length to cover a time span.2010-12-27 19:10:00

One other thing I've done with them is to force switchable coloured materials to colours that aren't part of the pallette available. For example say you want some neon material at slightly off-white (white with a tiny hint of blue, for eg), you might not be able to find the exact colour you want from the predefineds, so you can set the on colour to white, off colour to a light blue and then use a battery to control the fade between the two, essentially creating more colours than are normally available2010-12-27 20:23:00

Exactly!
Batteries are the logic chip I used the most during the Beta, especially for the cinematic levels...

As Ungreth said, on sequencers, it's the most helpfull tool to activate and synchronise all the different elements (magic mouth, sackbot actions, sounds etc..)

If you think about it, if its really a battery, the output would slowly weaken over a long period of time.2010-12-27 20:45:00

Ok, batteries aren't perma-switchs (no imputs) but they do offer ver prisise usage amounts (how strong the battery is)

They are best used (trust me) in making animations or other effects in tandum w/ the sequencer!

They can also be used for cutscenes, ex. having an emiter on at a specific time and end at a specific time.

this is posible by changing the Battery sizeand possible speed of the sequencer (not the music one )

but thats the jist of it: A battery is a forever on peice of logic, that can be turned off if in a sequencer (very useful in those) or in a disabled microchip (can be useful for some instences)
