The Official MOVE thread.

Archive: 29 posts

It's not really official, but it can be a pretend official thread.

As I'm sure at least a couple of people here have it, especially in lieu of LBP2, so I figured maybe it was time for a thread that was generally about the thing.

I received 2 move controllers and a nav controller for christmas, along with the PS eye and some games, so I have been messing around with that. Most years my cousins come up from Portsmouth, and everyone uses the Wii for a laugh. This year meant I was able to compare the two, and the Move wins hands down. We played Sports Champions for a bit, and while some games aren't as good with only 1 Move control each, it was still good fun, and far more accurate than the Wii. I then downloaded High Velocity Bowling, Pro Darts and the minigolf game from PSN. Darts is actually quite good fun, and again very accurate, and personally I find the bowling better than the Wii version... because you actually have to do it properly.

Aside from those games, I've got MAG (yet to try with MOVE), Resi 5 (again, yet to try with MOVE), The Fight and RUSE which are move compatible. I tried The Fight yesterday, and I'm impressed, given the seemingly negative rep it's gained. It's hard as **** (at least to get used to), but once you start getting used to it, it's good fun and connecting a good combo is pretty satisfying.

I've got to say though, I'm loving RUSE. I only got the game for Christmas, but as a massive WW2 fan (games, books, films, documentaries....) and an RTS fan, I knew I'd like it but hand't yet got it. I almost bought it for 360, but decided I'd give it a shot with Move. And I love it. It feels kinda like being in a film, where you see them swiping across screens and controlling various things like that (Obviously that is a touch screen, but meh). The controls are very intuitive, swiping right to open the menu and left to close, holding the trigger and moving it forward and backward for zoom or trigger and left/right to rotate, with the other things being done on the Nav/DS controller, and it's good fun. I've only been messing around, but it's easy to get used to thanks to the accuracy of the move. I quickly found myself bombing the crap outta the Germans in a quick battle vs the AI, and it's easy to do anything you can do on the controller, if not easier.

Anyway, I approve of the move, and I can't wait for KZ3, LBP2, Socom 4, Virtua Tennis etc. which should just keep improving the implementation.

So, does anyone else here have it? What are your favourite Move compatible games?

Discuss.

Nice thread man, I'm gonna be interested in reading the initial feedback as I've got a Move controller sitting under the tree (more to satisfy the kids than myself). I've been in no rush to hook it up! I'm still in the, "It's a fad camp" but really hope they make some inventive gameplay for it. Remember someone mentioning Hard Rain would be MOVE compatiable-- so I guess it'll be time to pick that up used.2010-12-27 03:15:00

Well, I haven't tested it out too much. I have sackboy's prehistoric moves and I downloaded all the PSMove demos from the store. It's cool for the sackboy game, but I hope they come up with more ideas for using it in LBP2. As far as the demos go, Most were fun. A few, like Heavy Rain, I couldn't play because I don't have a navigation controller. Very dissapointing. The kids really like "Start the Party" or whatever it is. It has a game where you are onscreen and the move is replaced by a paintbrush. It's fun. I thought about picking the full game up. I had two sport demos. One had disc golf and ping pong. Those were really cool. To throw the frisbee was like throwing a real frisbee. The other had tennis, which was also cool. Also while playing ping pong if you rotated the move, the onscreen character would actually twist his arm all the way around. If you ever saw scary movie 4, it looks like the butler's little hand. All in all I'd say it's worth the price. And kids seem to LOVE it.2010-12-27 04:17:00

Haha, I did that too

The only games I have for the move are Racket Sports and Kung Fu Rider and tbh they look pretty crap. I think I'll just end up trading them in to help pay for LBP2. The demo disk that came with the move is great though. Buying the Move was a bit of a gamble since I didn't really like EyeToy or the Wii. I've played, the demo of, Sports Champion, Echochrome ii and Tumblar and I really like the move.

Like Gravel I really hope they actually make good gameplay for the Move, it's potential has already been proven, especially in things like RTS.

Ha, that's funny someone else did the arm thing. I had a lot of fun just messing with the character. You can also make him do a bow type deal when playing disk golf. And you can also cool off your "area" using a fan motion at the pong table. Is that weird? It sounds weird. But my buddy thought it was funny too.2010-12-27 06:25:00

I bought the Move day one, played with it for like 2 days and left in the dust.
Sport Champions is fun, I love the Table Tennis, but there isn't a game that makes me happy about it yet.
Must try to update MAG and Heavy Rain though.
Still I think that until Killzone 3 I won't appreciate the move, and yeah I'm gonna buy the Sharpshooter!

Move is really well implemented in Pain. Heavy Rain was a ***** to play. I played through the demo.2010-12-27 11:50:00

I got a Moooooooooooooove for Christmas. I've only got the Sports Champions thing, as well as the Sakboy's Prehistoric Moves. I tried playing that by myself, and it's hard, so lol.

Anyway, I think my setup is pretty bad... where do you keep your Eye? Right now it's at the bottom of my TV... I got like 7 or 8 feet after I moved my couch back, so yeah... Where exactly is a good setup for everything?

Also, I played through a few Move minigames on the Sly Collection... man, those things are a joke :/ lol.

Anywho, yep. ... good setup for the Move? lol

I got the starter pack for christmas along with sports champions. I have to say that it is awesome, even with only one controller (especially gladiator battle, it's epic!)
From the demos on the starter disc I can say that I will get tumble, I just need to buy a psn card.
I also need another move controller and maybe the nav controller (for heavy rain, I have already played it but not with move)

If only you could play Sport champions online...
It's fun, though.
I'm getting a 2nd move controller when it's avaible in store.

I found the best setup for the Move in my living room is with the eye on top of the TV. That puts the eye at about chest height for me and if you've got your arms up a lil bit it's in a good spot. So for the most part, the move is always directly in front of the eye. Of course it depends what you're playing, your height, and the height of your tv too.2010-12-28 06:21:00

I feel like this (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B6T87T1gOM0&feature=related)is the appropriate song for this thread.

I got the Move last, I had to go to 6 different stores. I found the move bundle in the 2nd store, and the extra wand thing in the 6th >_>; Took up most of my Friday.

So far I've only played Sports Champions, it gets boring very quick. . .I also hate that there's not that many games out for it yet :/ But I still need to buy Sackboy's Prehistoric Moves just to see if I like the Kinect better than the Move, that will be my tie breaker

But I still need to buy Sackboy's Prehistoric Moves

Remember that if you're buying LBP2 you get prehistoric moves free with it.

Heavy Rain MOVE Edition is the single most immersive gaming experience I have ever had. The story is already so engrossing as it is that having the extra element of motion control really makes you feel like you are in the game. Without spoiling any of the story there were certain parts that were...uncomfortable to get through because the movements you make with the MOVE are exactly as you would in real life and the characters are sometimes forced to do unpleasant things.

Sackboys Pre-Historic Moves is a great taste of how MOVE support will be implemented into LBP2. It will truly open up a lot of possibilities although we need to be conscience that most people probably don't have the MOVE. I actually managed to make it to the second last level playing solo but I will need to ask my wife to jump in if i want to make it any further lol.

Beat Sketcher is probably the best game designed specifically for the MOVE. It's like a cross between Mario Paint, MS Paint and every music based game you have played. There are various modes such as challenge where you need to draw pictures in time with the music, vs mode and create mode which will really appeal to all the creative types out there (by definition, everyone who owns LBP lol). Here you have the freedom to draw anything you want with a bunch of different options. You can record 10 minute clips and takle pictures that can be exported to your HDD as PNG files. If you were so inclined you could then print out these pics and decorate your apartment/house/room with your very own artwork! Here is a clip of the sort of thing you can create (skip to 2:45)

I bought EyePet MOVE Edition as one of my daughters Xmas presents and we are both having a ton of fun with it! The level of interactivity is really astounding. You are literally in the game at all times with the pet and doing a ton of different activities from planting a virtual garden in your living room (a lot cooler then it sounds), using your pet as a bowling ball, drawing an airplane on paper and having your pet copy it and create a 3D object for play (hold paper up to camera, you can also draw with the MOVE), feeding/bathing/styling, racing around an obstacle course with a car (you point at the floor to steer), shattering glass by singing at a high pitch and having your pet mimic you, the list goes on and on and on. Although this game is targeted toward families/kids anyone can have fun with it and it is an exciting glimpse into what MOVE tech is capable of

I'm downloading all the updates for Pain now - I've got like 10 and it's taking ages.

I'm loving RUSE with move though. It's still epic.

I was actually about to start the same thread as you, but I discovered this one. I bought the "Move Starter Pack" today from the store. For some reason I thought starter pack did contain Sports Champions, but unfortunately I was wrong, and it dissapointed me quite much. I haven't got any games for it, but I tried many of the demos, and some works better than other.

I have got Tiger Woods 10 for Wii Motion Plus and to be honest, I don't feel the difference between that and the demo of Tiger Woods 11. And the shoot could as well have been made for the normal wii remote, because you only point. The Sly Collections mini games with move are really dissapointing too. Sports Champions table tennis is much better than the motion plus wii tennis. Right now I don't think we have so many quality games for the Move Controller, but it definitely has a bright future in front of it.

Killzone 3 is coming with Move control, and that might be a buy from my side.

Did anybody try the Prostroke golf game? I couldn't get the hang of that one at all. I thought I was doing everything right, but couldn't get a decent drive no matter what. Maybe I just suck at golfing?2010-12-28 17:43:00

The Move is far better in quality than the Wii. But I guess that could be obvious, couldn't it? PS3 has better graphics and better technologic advancements. I have played Sports champions and I found it very fun even with one move controller. The player tracking is far better.
The only drawback about the move is, the difficulty it poses when playing on a small television. For optimal play, it tells you to stand back 8 feet from the screen. Now I do have a fairly small tv which is mostly a personal problem, but if I stand back 8 feet from the tv, things are barely visible. Now, I hate to compare but I'll do it anyway. With the wii, it doesn't matter how close you are. At least in my experience with the Wii.

Luckily I planned on pruchasing a larger TV anyway so I expect my problem to be resolved.
Verdict: The PS3 is way better than the Wii. But it is not as easy to play on small televisions. But seriously... what gamer- besides me- doesn't have a pretty big tv? LOL

Sorry, that's America only. I see you're from Europe, so yeah... Once again Europe got shafted <_>

So yeah, I may get Killzone 3 just so I have soemthing for my Move... maybe anyway, I don't really know TBQH D: I want a shooter deathmatch thing to play every once in a while though :/

I think RUSE with the move is great; its very well set up and isn't just a tacked on feature. I think it makes playing RTS on playstation a lot easier than it was before. My only problem is how sometimes when attacking an enemy I'd move the controller a bit too much and move just next to them and then the game deselects the unit and I have to find it again but you can set up sticky selection to sort that out. Its still not as good as PC controls of course and micro is very hard but for a large scale RTS like RUSE it works well.

I think if you could use the move for micro with Endwar style voice commands for the macro then it might work better but we'll see what gets developed.

I've downloaded several updates & demos and so far:

'The Shoot' is actually quite good. Sort of like 'Stuntman' but shooting instead of driving.
Funky lab rat is a good puzzle game but doesn't make great use of Move.
Eyepet update is great, my little sister loves the new toys etc.
Racquet sports is rubbish, no different/better than Wii sport's versions.
MAG is ok, but for a competitive online fps, some sensitivity issues still need work as well as the button layout.

That's it so far, others are downloading through the night.

P.s. I back from New York & Happy New Year!

I love Sports Champions. Considering the bundle is only 40 bucks more than a regular game, I think that game alone makes it worth the purchase. I'm also really enjoying Auditorium HD. Can't wait until I can try it in LBP2. I want to see if I can make that old toy game "Operation" with it. lol2011-01-02 23:13:00

I got the Move for Christmas & i've been loving it personally. I have Sports Champions, Resident Evil 5 Gold Edition, Sackboy's Prehistoric Moves, The Shoot, & Planet Mini Golf for it already. The shoot & mini golf are probably my favorites so far, the shoot reminds me of a arcade shooter. Resident Evil 5 was good for getting used to the move controller since I was already familiar with that game a lot & that made me better at the rest, you just have to get used to it at first.2011-01-09 00:41:00

Yeah Racket Sports are rubbish. A good idea mixing 3 different sports in a game, but it's clearly to see, it's just a cheap port from the Wii version.

well the 4 controllers i used by myself and then someone else had the move controller............ i did it 1st time but there are a few parts that can be tricky, especially when the camera angle moves so you have to take that into account aswell. It was the only one i was missing to until i could get hold of another 2 controllers 2011-01-10 19:07:00
