AV8SCAN Pop-up? (Possible Virus Warning!)

Archive: 7 posts

As I was browsing a few profile pages, a pop up called "AV8SCAN" came up onto my screen and said "We detect suspicious activity on your computer. Please allow us to search this pc." The thing is, I have a Mac. Also, It would not let me click out of it unless i said OK. I researched it and found out that AV8SCAN is a malware, and I am worried that it might have already infected my computer. Has anyone else experienced this Pop-up?2010-12-26 03:28:00

Did you make sure your virus protection was on, or your firewall wasn't down. It could also be from another website you've been to, maybe downloaded something and BAM herpes.2010-12-26 08:52:00

If you're using Mac, chances are you have nothing to worry about. A very big majority of malware was written for Windows operating systems, although a very small number still exist for Mac, I believe. It's nothing to worry about, just a popup enticing Windows users to install spoofware in order to steal your money, identity, or other sensitive information. Just click out of it.2010-12-26 13:57:00

Ok, thanks for clearing that up, but earlier today, Google Chrome notified me that this site could "harm my computer because it may contain malware etc." The only sit eI was visiting ATM was LBPC and I was not downloading anything.2010-12-26 18:11:00

Sometimes people try to hide malicious stuff in their ads and the people hosting the site don't know about it when they added those ads, which is what happened. Report about this to CC and mention the state/country/province etc you live in (this will help out since some ads are based on location, which is why its hard to find the malicious ad). If it pops up again use your task manager to close it out safely.

I have been hit by this 3 times on LBPC (and was pretty much the only one getting hit by it here). And all i can say is FINALLY someone else is getting this problem. See i AiN'T cRaZy! *eye twitches*

That's what I'd like to know. Are there any other members who have experienced this issue besides those above?2010-12-28 18:56:00
