Triggered Door?

Hello, I did a quick search through the threads but couldn't find exactly what I was looking for. I JUST started creating a level so this could be a very basic question. I am looking to have a door opened triggered by a switch. My question is, what would be the best way to do this in regards to material [I'm trying to use a block of wood], switches [currently trying with a red button] and finally tools [was thinking string?] I've tinkered a bit, but I cant seem to get it working properly. Have the door where you want it. The connect it to something above it (e.g. a small lump of dark matter) with a winch. Then hold square on the winch, to access the tweak menu, where you can adjust how high, what speed etc etc. Tinker with that until it fits your tastes. Then place the button switch where you want it. Grab the little connector cord, and attach that to the winch. Now, hold square on the button itself. You then have the option of choosing different settings for the switch.
