Cinematic Expert Needed

Archive: 3 posts

Hey guys. I have some questions about making movie cutscenes and was wondering if any of you beta experts could answer them

-when recording, does everything have to be in the level, or can you record it and erase the objects like you do when doing sackbot animations?
-is there anyway to exclude sackboy from the cutscene
-is there anyway to keep the unique expressions sackbots have when using voice acting
-since you have to record sackbot animations, how do you prevent reflex lag after you press the recorder? also, how do you construct complex animations such as walking and talking or having it's head looking back while walking.
-can you record different situations, object placements (for 3d world effects), and places and string them together as one scene.
-can you record a scene and have it play on an object such as the tv object or one of those endgame screens
-how do you connect scenes
-how long can each scene be
-can you place the camera's on logic sequencers

I'm sorry to be a bother to you all. I'm just trying to be prepared.

ill answer as best i can although im not an expert in any way:

-you dont actually "record" with the movie camera, all you do is make it show a certain part of the level for however long you want
which means that
-to exclude the players sackboy simply make sure that the camera never looks in the area that player spawned in

-there are two options for voice acting with sackbots

Firstly you just record the actions, and then put a magic mouth on the sackbots chip and record the voice through that, although this will show a speech bubble.
Otherwise you can just set the sackbot to "Act" and when you record the actions with the sixaxis simply talk into the mic and it will record the sackbot speaking with lip syncing too.

-after you press the record button the game gives you a three second countdown before it starts recording, should be enough time to get into position and get ready to act.

-i dont really know what you mean, but as i said before you dont actually record anything, you just show different parts of the level at different times.

-so far there isnt a feature for making your own videos and im pretty sure that there wont ever be one, but you can make short (or long if your patient) animations on hologram material which is how the tv screens in Lift Off or whatever its called were made.

-movie cameras have an input and an output so you just link them with a wire to make a chain of cameras. they can also be triggered by any logic piece.
The cameras also have transition effects, so when changing from one scene to another you can Cut, Hard Pan, Soft Pan, Fade (through any colour you want), Cross-Fade and Zoom Fade.

-the movie cameras have options for how long the scene is held for and also how long the transition is gonna be, so you can do a 0.1 second soft pan to get a whizzing effect.

-you can place the cameras anywhere that a logic piece can go including sequencers, although as far as i know a camera on a sequencer cannot be linked to, but can only link to another camera that is not on the sequencer

i think thats all you wanted to know? if you have anymore questions feel free to ask away
