zombie survival

in this level you must defend an outpost from an endless horde of zombies.

your high tech base has paint turrets and can be repaired by wondering survivors.

the game has a brief tutorial, a tips section and different game modes: "hard mode" and "no survivors mode" there is also a single or multiplayer option.
this is the first level i spent a long time making and it has been published for awhile now. it's very fun and i even still go back to play it sometimes!

I gave the level 3 stars. It lacked visual detail and for some reason I never got any more "paint" for my gun. but it was pretty good It seemed there was a lot of logic and thought that took place in the level.2010-12-23 20:22:00

This level seems kinda fun, something i'ld return back to every now and then, but unfortunately plain visuals and the lack of "being able to continue" (i.e once your outta paint on the turret, it's game over?) killed it for me.

Has potential, but needs a bit of work/

3 Stars.

there is a paint gun at the bottom with (i think) infinite ammo so it does get harder when you run out of turret paint but you should still be able to survive. every 3 minutes a paint can parachutes down and refills your turrets. if you're playing on single player mode you should be able to survive a decent ammount of time with just the gun. i'll play test it a bit more, maybe it's not working how i intended?

i'm better with visuals now, maybe i'll redo that. i did notice last i played that it was lacking. thanks for the feedback! i'll update this level ASAP and then message you if you're interested in seeing the improvements.

Hey I played this level the other day. I thought it was alright. It seemed a little difficult at the very start, I'd suggest trying to make it progressively build up a little more, starting very easy. I liked all of the options you could choose from, I played it one player, but I'm assuming in 2-4 player zombies come from both sides of the bunker? Because in one player, I only saw them from one side and I was wondering why I could see the whole thing, making different camera zones active for the different game modes would make it easier in my opinion. I thought the idea with the survivors and all was really cool, but I killed nearly all of them Also I wished there were more decorations to give a more zombie-like environment and feel, and the default floor doesn't exactly match that very well. One final thing, the bunker was built so you couldn't really get to the bottom or top very fast unless you jumped off the side or wasted time with the zombies getting in.

Overall, really cool idea, a little underdone, but still :star::star::star::star: for the idea. Maybe making it a bit easier and a bit more decorated would give me a better opinion about it.

I gave it five stars, because the logic seems like it is fairly complex, and it seems like you worked hard on it . The only thing i could think to change would be to add some decorations. But since the gameplay was really good I think it deserves 5 stars. + I did not have any glitches when I played so thats cool 2010-12-27 16:17:00

this is the first level that i played around with logic in and i learned alot i'd say it's pretty complex compared to most, but it could probably be improved.

mostly what i'm seeing as feedback is i need more decoration, but i'm not exactly sure what to add. i added some stickers to the tower to make it more detailed but most of them just look like an annoyance. anyone care to give me more specific advice in that area?

If it were my level, I would give it a theme, like a cave, a jungle, high-tech fortress, whatever you want, but make it so everything has the same similarity. Then you can add a structure to the whole thing based off of that. So if you decided to do a jungle theme for example, maybe add a forest floor, make the bunker look organic, drape some vines, etc. Giving it those specifics will give it more of an identity, and I bet people would think better of it.

But then again, just an opinion but hope that gives you some ideas!

hello and thanks for your feedback!
i decided to play your zombie survival:
first i have to say: your lvl is very hard. maybe you can make that the game is just over when the base health decreases.
but your lvl is a good idea. with better optic it would be a really good survival. so try to make it better or make a sequel!
i gave your lvl :star::star::star:.

well the theme was supposed to just seem like a military outpost, which is why it's just concrete floor and fence with the one tower. maybe i should add some more buildings to the background or something to make the theme more clear? i think i understand a bit more now, i guess it doesn't need more minute details like stickers it just needs to feel more like you're "somewhere" instead of a random minigame location. am i right?

Hi harbingernaut,

I liked the idea of this level and was VERY impressed with how well you pulled off the logic, but in my opinion it looked a little bare. I imagine you have a ton of thermo space left, unless your logic used up a bunch of it -- I have no idea how you did some of that stuff -- so maybe use some of that thermo space to dress things up a bit?

Maybe add some lightning flashes? I included a lightning machine that I invented as a community item in Trick or Terror (you might have to ace the level to get it, though, I can't remember). You can make your own, though. All you need is a spinning wheel somewhere with a magnetic key stuck to the edge somewhere with a fixed magnetic switch nearby with a trigger radius that only works if the rotating wheel is in just the right spot (attach the the magnetic key switch to an LED that's hidden behind something in your level, then attach a motion sensor somewhere in the bunker and string it to the spinning bolt that spins the wheel. Also attach the motion sensor to a lightning sound effect. That way, when your sackboy runs past the sensor, it causes that wheel to spin (which causes the LED to flash) and the sound effect to go. Voila!

Some creepy, thin-layer trees might be a cool touch, or maybe a large, glowing moon. There are so many possibilities!

It would also be nice if enemies attacked from both sides, that way that second gun isn't just sitting there. I played one-player, so maybe that's different in multiplayer scenarios. You could, for one-player, make enemies attack from both sides but just not as often or move as quickly? Then maybe speed those things up for multiplayer since there's more than one person defending the bunker?

Also, there wasn't a clear way that I could find to get back up on top of the bunker after going down to the ground. I would run out of ammo, jump down, grab the paintinator. Then more paint would arrive, but I couldn't get back up to use it. Was there maybe a stairway that I missed in all the zombie mayhem? It got pretty frantic there (which is a good thing).

Great level, overall! And I played your zombie town level, as well. There was some great humor there and a fun boss battle. You really like zombies, huh? Me too

Finally got around to doing F4Fs.

That's a great level you have there. I love tower defense mechanics and such. Not enough of them around really.
Great zombies and survivors that actually serve a purpose rather than for extra points. Great game mechanic there.

I only wish the turrets had just a bit more ammo.

Played several times really and I think I'll try again with friends to see how the multiplayer scenario works.

republished this level in LBP2, using sackbots for zombies! i didn't play test it extensively but it seems to be around the same difficulty. oh, and instead of supply drops, there are soldier survivors that refill your paint! it's a lot more fun imo 2011-01-21 16:57:00

Overall not a bad level, just lacked the fine details i felt it could have used, and had some other minor issues such as difficulty. The turret system was pretty **** cool, and i am sure the sack bots helped a lot. The AI seemed to glitch at times though.2011-01-21 17:52:00
