Pity it is only open to people in New Zealand for some reason, maybe a coincidence that strangepom [NZ] just won the final LBP1 contraption challenge 12.

Hi All,
Now here's a question you don't get asked everyday....
How would you like a chance to work in videogames?

Well, we're giving away what could literally be the opportunity of a lifetime - a job working with the team in Auckland, making levels on the upcoming LittleBigPlanet 2!

That's right, we're looking for an experienced LittleBigPlanet™ gamer who can Play, Create and Share to help us build on the heritage of Little Big Planet and create levels that will impress with the new LittleBigPlanet 2 due to launch early January.
Oh and did we mention you will be getting paid? And you’ll be working with the PlayStation NZ team not to mention that you'll also be getting:
* A written reference from the Director of Sony Computer Entertainment (upon successful completion of the required, performance based tasks).
* LBP2 Merchandise, including LBP2 Collectors Edition and concept art from Media Molecule
* Your creations will be showcased in media throughout NZ and the world
* Sony Computer Entertainment 1st party games for a whole year!
So if you know when to use a winch over a piston and your Popit cursor like a third arm then follow this LINK for more information about how to enter along with terms and conditions for this once in a lifetime competition.
Cheers

I had heard rumors about this being in the works, but a bit surprised it's been isolated to NZ.
I think even the NZ's are surprised.

I'm thinking whole development teams put together for the sole purpose of corporate advertising, promotion, [ possibly training ] using the new tools in LBP2.
It might end up that advertising agencies end up the power users of LBP2, which has it's good & bad points if that eventuates.
The bad would be a general over saturation of ad's using LBP2, then the inevitable situation of people getting sick to death of the sight of it without ever playing the game or creating anything themselves.

More details at this link.

Typical NZ [they are know for being tight with their money, like the Scots lol], posting how much you get at the end of completing the required tasks NZ$2400 which is = to Aus/USA $1785

Ouch, that's a pittance pay if you spend any semblance of time working on whatever it is.

Edit: It seems to work out to 9 days of work, unless they want you to work weekends as well, in which case it comes out to 12 days. Looks to be 9 hours each day. You can do the math to decide if that's worth it to you. I will remind you that being placed into a stressful, directed environment really dampens creativity.

Best of luck to those who do it!

I think you are right.
A bit of a sweat shop IMHO.
I bet they send the "Winner" a Brief beforehand, saying you are required to have a plan on how to build the following level.

Meaning that we are going to use talent at the least cost to us by luring them with a "Pie in the Sky" competition, which at the end of the day is 7 days work.
Pay?
Well that's NZ$2400.....which is USA/Aus $1780.

If I find out that the winner is asked/ made to sign over intellectual property then I will be on the war path.

*hands blackwiggle spear*

You'll need it. Of COURSE they will sign over IP rights, that's what happens when you make IP for someone else for money IP transferal will be part of the contract, no doubt about that.

Aw man, NZ gets everything. It's not fair that this isn't offered in North America. I'm getting tired of us being treated like the ugly step children of the world. I'm sure my public complaint about this will help in the future.

I would say the NZ$2400 plus the additional gaming benefits would be worth the effort to a struggling university student somewhere!

I suppose a "First Foot Into the gaming Industry" at a pittance, is better than no opening at all.
Just a shame that it is really basic exploitation when you get right down to it.

Maybe if the "Winner" made a level based on factory conditions of your average LBP2 level Chinese factory worker[wink, wink] there would be a ironic equilibrium attained.
Much the same as the "Simpsons" have made light of Korean Cartoon "Sweat shops".

I'm not sure what you guys think the games industry is like, but if you're concerned about being overworked and underpaid, then it's not the place for you.

Seriously (http://www.computerandvideogames.com/article.php?id=280419).

Seriously? NZ gets everything? Often we are the last to get movies in cinemas, last for good games, almost never for game demonstrations, overpriced travel fees, sometimes stuff doesnt even get here at all(Oh, Roborover ) (http://www.wowwee.com/en/products/toys/robots/robotics/roborover), and more. This is pretty much a miracle for NZ...

Now that, my friend, is a lie. Too many things occur here and the opportunities really should go somewhere else.... really.

Good luck to the New Zealand folk!

...and another carrot starts dangling in front of anyone who takes pride in their work to stop having fun and start hating yourself and what you do for the next 2 or 3 years.

lulz @ these studios needing trainers. c'mon now guys, I was always told that LBP was a kindergartner's mod community by upturned noses.

I say someone could go for it though. You could probably do half-hearted and half-quality work, and they wouldn't know any better. I got paid 10 cents an hour to make something for MM once, and this is a wayyyyyyyyyy better deal.

Seriously (http://www.computerandvideogames.com/article.php?id=280419).
You have to love your job. LOVE it. Otherwise, it will destroy any creativity and passion you thought you had. It's a good thing, actually - it results in only the most passionate and dedicated (if overworked) people staying for the long haul. It's like a built-in minimum requirement: if you can't do it for 8, 10, 12, 18 hours a day, sometimes 6 days a week, and still have NO doubts about your chosen career path, you're not cut out for it.

If anyone enters into this contract with Sony, I'm betting they'll probably have a very similar experience. Either you're perfect for the job (and it is perfect for you), or it will make you hate the thing you thought you loved. So...tread lightly. Nothing's ever free.

(also, it's worth mentioning: if you want to work in the games industry, avoid big publishers like Microsoft and Sony. All the "soul-sucking" stories I've heard have come out of people who've worked for publishers. Aim for development studios, small and/or third-party if you have the freedom to choose - they're usually much more fun and relaxed)

Probably true in many cases, but I can speak from experience that working with Sony NA is an extremely smooth process. I won't go into any more than that, but it's a better gig than is advertised here.

I've applied for this job and the money is good as it is only for 2 weeks.

Sony NZ actually called me up and told me about it and said I should apply! The successful applicent is notified on the 5th Jan and the job starts on the 10th Jan. I'm totally eligible for this job, 30 years of age, mad keen LBP creator (reasonable-good skill level) and available!

I hope I get it!!!

Arguably better collectors' edition?
Game festivals like E3?
I was unaware that these things were 'Nothing.'

I would enter, but I'm too young, and this doesn't seem like the job for me. If I read it right, it means that you only get paid if you complete their ominous task.

D:

But, good luck to anyone who enters.

So true,
For almost any game-company goes..
you got family? say goodbye to them till the game is done, and hope no other games want your involvement...
(friend of mine worked at EA, he only had 1 day off every 2 weeks and did not get any vacation till the game he worked on was finished..
only to find out that a month before the game was finished, they allready asigned a new game to his talents.
poor fellah.
