Ha! I love it, the featurettes were getting boring, but this video emphasizes what LittleBigPlanet really is!

Did the rocket in the beginning remind anyone of Teebonesey's boat level?

Did they use the 3-D glitch at 1:13 with the paper airplane? If you pause it, it looks like 4 levels...maybe.2010-12-23 01:38:00

That's what I was thinking.
I'm curious if MM made that level just for the trailer, because MM using the third layer glitch is very unlikely.

Unlikely? They used it for part of a moving background on one of the Marvel pack levels, Freeway Frenzy.

Yeah i don't think Mm really cares about that glitch seeing how all it does is give a level more detail, hell i thought they would make it possible to make your own background in lbp2.2010-12-23 05:50:00

Ah, here it is at last! Major kudos to ye few who thought of me when you saw this trailer - indeed your musings were right on the money. I created all the content in this trailer back in September-October, as well as a ton of cool stuff that didn't make the cut. I'm thinking I'll probably do a thread at some point here detailing the cool experience and do a proper Q-and-A, I don't want to hijack this thread and make it about me.

Did they use the 3-D glitch at 1:13 with the paper airplane? If you pause it, it looks like 4 levels...maybe.

Nope, no glitching there at all. It looks like there's extra depth because I'm using an extreme wide-angle camera, but that's that. There is a bit of layer-glitching in the chicken-shooter shot, and I have to mention Ppp_Killer here for helping me out by sending me some prototype work to help save time.

To be honest, some of my absolute favorite shots didn't make the cut into this trailer! I'll talk about them more in a separate thread I suppose.

Anyway, thanks for the kind words! And yeah, compher's right, Mm didn't actually produce this trailer at all. It was commissioned by Sony America, the ad agency was G-NET (they do all sorts of insanely awesome stuff - I also worked on the "hey man nice shot" bulletstorm trailer while I was there and put in my 99 cents on the story trailer that precedes the Dead Space 2 demo), the whole production was in California, though there was some contact with Mm, this wasn't their show ultimately, but SCEA's.

Glad you guys are enjoying it!

I would have told all about it sooner, but I didn't want to hype it up for one, I was under an NDA for two, and in recent days I've been undergoing some heavy life changes and suddenly everything videogame-related has taken a backseat. Way in the back. Like, 37 rows back. So I've been pretty much MIA from the forums.

That said, there's no reason not to spill the beans now!

I disproved that enigma! :tophat:

I'm not so sure, I don't think they used the layer glitch there.

Anyhow, I took pictures to make sure.
Here's how far the bell decoration from the POTC pack, at full size, stretches from the background to the front of the truck:
http://i301.photobucket.com/albums/nn65/warlord_evil/APhoto_1-1.jpg

I went into a blank level, and I then placed another bell decoration at full size on a thin layer in the back layer. I had a thick block placed at the foremost front layer that would be considered to be in the same layer as the truck:
http://i301.photobucket.com/albums/nn65/warlord_evil/APhoto_2-1.jpg
The bell appears to be cut-off at the same area, this suggests that no glitch layers were used.

I'm not against the layer glitch, but I don't see it in this level.

My post won't sound original, but who cares... ? This trailer is fantastic, probably the best one so far! So many possibilities and ways to play and create... This game is very heartwarming, little did I know it would affect me so much when I bought it in 2008. I'm also glad to see how many brand new costumes have been made, they look much more studied than the first game's outfits. It's like... the details of the last DLC's but with Mm's creativity.2010-12-23 10:13:00

That was fun to watch.
Question Teebonesy. At 1.00 in the video. Was the black and white effect a special editing effect or is that a unrevealed secret filter in the full game?

I realize that the question is not for me and I'd hate to invade, but the "filter" is one of the many special effects materials, some make line art, some pixelation, when placed in front of objects.

It might be xray material i seen one from some convention video don't remember which one, also i seen creators playing with it on Nederland (room 202?) creator party video

This effect is called edge-detection btw, marking edges of objects

You also might not notice but liftoff currently got pixalization glass on brige of the ship

Yeah, the "Flip it" shot is all in-game, with a big flat piece of x-ray material sliding into the foreground as the camera zooms out. It's sped up quite a bit, as all the loose debris I had there caused quite the hiccup in framerate when played at normal speed. There may be one or two other shots that had to be "helped along" a bit in the framerate department...

Oh, one more thing I have to mention! Big thank-ye to compher, whose font-craftery in LBP1 saved me a bucket of time in this.

Awesome trailer! Glad to see one of my fave's Teebonsey back on the job!

The demo disappointed.

I disagree. Maybe for a beta tester the demo could seem to lack a bit, but Im just glad to finally get a go; even if it is a little one! Im so very very VERY looking forward to the final release now. I might have to quit my job and become a full time creator once again! ;D

Just a quick question, sorry if it's been answered before:
The release date, is it sill the 18th? Because my pre-order says it will be delivered on the 21st?

I think this really demonstrates how evolutionary the LBP series really is: it's not just companies making (and marketing/advertising) games, but the community that surrounds, supports, and gives life to that game. LBP has a very special community of people who come together with the common goal of entertaining other; something that I cannot say about any game before it (although I'm sure some cotton headed ninny muggin will be able to).

Fantastic stuff Teebonesy, but just one question: where does your name come from?

aah, good call! I forgot to mention that bit. As well as the bee fighting the snake boss (there will be no bee vehicle in the storymode version of that fight) and the "camel tank" vehicle - these were all from story levels, though heavily reworked for the trailer. There was quite a bit of pressure on me to implement story stuff whenever I could, but what some of the brass didn't realize was that reworking story levels tended to take way longer to get finished and working than creating from scratch. The turkey mech is the original work of none other than Johnee. I had done several passes on it, turning it into a godzilla and various other shenanigans that ultimately got the axe in favor of a giant babbling turkey... and I assure you, when you eventually reach that "scene" in the game's storymode, it will be decidedly different than what you see here in this trailer. Dare I say, it will be WAY more epic when you play it in its full, unleashed Johnee form.

Fantastic stuff Teebonesy, but just one question: where does your name come from?

The handle's Thomas, letter T, T-Bone being a common nickname for T-names, and from T-Bone comes T-Bonesy or Teebonesy. Bam! Totally original and amazing and unlike anything else in the world, except for everything! It was originally a quick and dirty temporary username, but as with so many of these sorts of things, it just happened to stick.

So are you saying that you played the story?!

Well yes, but I'll now go ahead and add that I played the whole story over and over and over again until my hairs began to spring from my scalp, and furthermore tinkered intimately with many of them in create mode on a regular basis. This was the merest bullet-point on an extremely long list of things I needed to do and be able to do as I went about the business of building stuff in this trailer. The most ridiculous was probably my navigating the debug menu blind. In order to turn off HUD you also turned off all menu screens. I had to memorize where certain debug commands were and how to access them. Several people in g-NET witnessed me clacking dozens of buttons on a blank screen before seeing menus suddenly fly in out of nowhere. At one point I handed someone a controller and kindly asked them to perform my commands: "now press down three times. now x. now wait two seconds. now x. now press R2 twice. now press down three times. now press X. Now press down 7 times." etc.

You've got ad agency execs stopping by and you can expect them to possibly ask to see nigh impossible things occur on the screen in front of them, and you will be expected to perform these tasks, preferably without an excuse or complaint. So yes, on the one hand I got to play the story mode. On the other hand there was a crap-ton of pressure and often these play sessions lacked a certain amount of breezy fun. Also, this was an earlier build, and several of the story levels had much work - mainly visual detailing - still to be done. Many whole levels and concepts got either entirely scrapped or severely reworked or simplified for the later builds / final game. It was very interesting to see it all progress, as well as be privy to the ins and outs of Sony America's at-times hilarious bureaucratic processes. But all this is for another time and another story... Perhaps in a few days you'll get the real details. a-wink!

O_O Whoa... That seems a little extreme, but hey, that's a cool thing that you got to do, and it sounds like in the end, it was really cool. Those kinds of experiences are what life is for, right?
I hope that the final game isn't too simplified, though, and I can't wait for the "real details" you mentioned.

...and on a semi-related note, I think that all bureaucratic process can be hilarious at times.
