Ease of Music Sequencer?

Archive: 18 posts

A question for all you beta-goers out there. how easy is the music sequencer in LBP2 to use? Would it be possible for a person with little to none music experience at all to create a decent song?

What I have in mind is this song:

I have the sheet music for the song, but I'm rubbish at reading sheet music. So how easy would you guys say it would be to re-create this?

Well, it's not too terribly hard to transfer sheets to the game. You just have to read through the sheets prior to starting so you can decide which each dot will represent.

If a 32nd note is your fasted note on a sheet, then each dot should represent 1 32nd note. If it's 16th, then 1 dot should represent a 16th. That's how I do it at least. :3 Not too difficult, no. Just know which note is which on a piano, and make sure you can read sheets and you're good to go!

From what I've heard the music sequencer is basically its own midi sequencer, so as long as you can properly transcribe all the music over than your probably set. Then again, I don't have the beta so I wouldn't really be one to know.2010-12-22 21:54:00

Thanks guys, I'll see if I can get a basic understanding of sheet music. I play guitar, but I'm self taught and have my own way if writing music out, it's probably not a very good habit to get into if I want to write music.2010-12-23 23:28:00

I think shadow means the demo for Fruity Loops, that or he is just severely mis-informed. 2010-12-24 02:31:00

Foofles has a quite informative video on the sequencer on his youtube account. It explains the basics of the music sequencer pretty well imo.2010-12-24 11:55:00

Oh wow, had no idea FL Studio had a keyboard sequencer. This will make recreating MIDIs a breeze! 2010-12-25 19:15:00

The video description includes a link to a MIDI. If you put that MIDI on Synthesia (a free PC software that's like Guitar Hero's practice mode, for piano), it'll show you which physical keys on a piano you would need to press.

An example of what I mean: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yC8JTAchvqc

Hope that helps.

The Music Sequencer is one of the most simple music tools ever created in a video game for players to use.
Take for instance, this: both my sisters and myself have no musical experience in real life, but we are able to replicate classic songs fairly easily on a scale unknown to us before or since. The only "weaknesses" it may have that I can think of are the limited choice of instruments, which of course is no matter if you practice enough with the ones included, and that you are not "great" right off the bat. But, after a few weeks--maybe more, of practice, you might be able to even create works like Foofles'.

It was too hard for me. (Not that I spent much time using it)
For a comparison, not as easy as something like garageband imo.
