New LittleBIGPlanet2 Demo Released (Americas)

Archive: 125 posts

In the NA PlayStation store, LBP2's official demo is now released.

To Clarify:

DEAR GOD, NO CREATE MODE. Is that clear? Good.
DLC from LBP1 is not ported into the Demo.
3 Story Levels
Requires Online Play
Does Not Activate Trophy List
No Online Play
File Size of Demo: 2025MB (2GB)
Supports 4 Player Multiplayer Locally
No LittleBigStore

If you can get the demo icon for me to casually put here, that would be nice.

If you read the demo's description, it states that you will get Tower of Whoop, Avalon's Advanced Armaments Academy, and Rocket Funland. 2010-12-22 02:32:00

For some odd reason I got some DLC, like the Vera stickers.

Also the materials you get in the levels are pointless, but fun.

Also OH GOD EVERYTHING IS GORGEOUS

Good luck! Care to give us any information once it is completed? Thanks in advance! Can someone who has finished downloading tell us if there is online play? I want to play online with my friend who recently got a PS3.2010-12-22 02:58:00

Nope, no create mode at all. No community either. The menu buttons are there, but the instant you press them you're whisked away to a trailer and an unskippable "Coming Soon!" splash page.

Oddly enough you do get pins. But you can't see them.

So it's just you, Vinchi and Avalon, and a tiny bit of Higgenbotham in a deathmatch arena you can't even play with anyone else. :/

Yea, I would have thought that there would be online, considering the Rocket Deathmatch level... Can you even enter the level alone? I really wanna mess around, even if it is by myself.. What loner! Can you at least play with friends on the same PS3? I plan on having friends over soon, so...2010-12-22 03:08:00

Yeah, you can enter alone. It was just me with my death helmet. Jumping around like a looney.. wasting a minute till the round timed out.
I suppose you can attach controllers for offline multiplayer.

well, at least the levels are pretty fun, and incredibly nice looking. Anti-aliasing! Colors! And controllinators! Woo!

A little, yes, but I can do without, everything else is so awesome!

Yeah, but most of the time for those, you have to complete the entire demo until it pops up, in this, you just have to play a tiny bit of it, and the demo isn't very large anyways.

If anyone hasn't seen it yet, there's a new video showcasing the vocal talent of the characters in LBP2.

But all in all, for the downside of a game to be that there wasn't MORE of it to play, I think that says a lot about how the sales and gameplay value of LBP2 will be when it hits in 4 weeks. I'm looking forward to getting my hands on it and jumping right in

Don't get me wrong, I LOVED the demo, I just wish I could have gotten my hands on a Sackbot...

Just as a note to anyone who is exiting the demo, the demo does not create a profile, so be sure to take pictures of your pods, costumes, etc. The oh-so-nifty high-res camera tool comes in handy I had to learn the hard way, I tried exiting to see if I did lose my items, and I did, so I posted here. The lack of a standard platforming/tutorial level is going to confuse a bit of the newcomers, no? Especially considering Tower of Whoop's quirky nature.

Also putting a multiplayer mini-game as the third "story level" was very lame.

However, the Avalon level was complete genius.

Honestly i felt this demo wasn't really worth a 2 and 1/2 hour download. But at least they kept most stuff secret: Then people will want more, so people who usually settle with demos will get the real game...
I am upset that they didn't include the promised create mode, like many others, however I believe that this is to hide the amazing features.
The Avalon level was quite good, i think I'll play it at least 74 times before the real game.
But still, i was let-down

Considering the filesize, I thought it would at least have SOME create!
Highly disappointing.

Why is everyone so surprised there's no create mode, I seriously can't be the only one who knew there wouldn't be a create? It is a demo, sure the beta got create mode, but that's different, it's for testing the game, whereas the demo is a small taster to get everyone excited.

To be honest, there's more than I expected (judging by comments people have left, still wait for our store to update). I thought it was just going to be the same 3 levels (and 2 mini games) we got in the beta, with no pod or create mode, like the LBP1 demo. But as it turns out, there's new levels and a pod.

Y'all gotta learn to expect less of things, while all you lot are disappointed, I'm sitting here pretty amazed at how much there is.

Yep Your totally right

A Demo is like a Sneak Peak.
and think you need to be happy it isnt a timed demo, as lots of demo are.(like you can only play for a set time until it expires)

I knew there wasn't going to be create. How do you expect them to incorporate create without giving us the whole thing? Demos aren't ment to last hours, they're ment to be a small chunk of the game so you'll want to buy it. I'm not suprised and won't be dissapointed at all. Especially those who aren't in the BETA, like me, should be thankful.2010-12-22 10:45:00

Even though I liked the demo, I was also a tiny bit disappointed...

I would have liked to have seen the first introductory level as it was the case in the original LBP demo - The pure charm of that level won me over the instant I played it! In this case on the other hand I'm not sure if this increased learning curve and lesser focus on customization will benefit how the demo is perceived?
And I also do agree that it would have been nice if they had included one or two more levels in a demo of 2 gig

Hello?! Does anyone know if demo is in the ps store in uk yet?!?!?!??

I have heard of people residing in EU creating US accounts to access their store...
I'm certain this is possible, but I think it might be illegal, and therefore I cannot directly endorse it in a public forum.

I found a typo in the description of Avalon's Advanced Armaments Academy, it says "Avalon has a clutch of prototype devices for you to wrap you brain around.". I also found a bug in Rocket Funland in which a rocket I fired didn't explode, it was just driving itself into a wall.

I thought this game was meant to have gone gold?

That said, the bunny, puppy and hamster machines are awesome.

It's not illegal it's fine. I have an american account from way back when I got a US beta code for LBP1. It's great for downloading demos but you can't pay for anything.

Finnished reading? Okay.

As you can see, the "Including CREATE" part is where the two articals differ. I suspect it was aded by whoever posted that post on the PS blog because he couldn't handle create not being included.
So everybody shut up now about the "promised" create mode, it was never promesed at all.

Oh, and by the way, I live in Europe, and I still can't download the demo even though it's pas 6 already.

I was, as many other people, surprised and disappointed, when I downloaded the demo and discovered no Create Mode, as I had earlier read in the blog post (by official Sony rep. Eric Levine) that we would have access to the Create functionality.

Don't blame us because there are conflicting pieces of information. I read "CREATE" and logically assumed it would be there...

Just to know, did someone recorded the two new levels of this demo...?

I'm still wondering if it's really worth it to spend time downloading it, as I'm already in the beta...

I just realized something! The GOTY DLC does transfer over! I got the history pack and stuff via the GOTY, and it is showing up in my costumes!

Yep! DLC costumes and stickers will transfer to the demo! I played through the levels as the Sacktue of Liberty

Yeah I know, that's why it would be cool to see them in video, if someone has recorded them...
I mean I can wait till the official release to play them... there's no urge (for me)

Sometimes it's all luck, but concentrate on speed most of the time and you are bound to get a big multiplier (the key to a big score is that). If you just sprint through everything then you might pick up a 20x multiplyer without knowing it. I've gotten 115,000, and the prize bubbles add 1,000 each (a total of 9,000 if you get them all at the end). Don't try to get all or even any prize bubbles while doing the race, it will just subtract time in the long run, I think.

I think tower of whoop is going to be a huge contest. Probably the most played of the three levels. ()Update: 30% of the loading is done)2010-12-22 19:57:00

Thanks to you, I finally got it! Now, when my sister goes to play football on the PS3, when she exits the demo, I lose everything.. I can't wait till the final game! Especially when ever I exit the full game, my costumes, achievements, etc, don't go down the drain... I wonder why the demo doesn't create a game save..? Huh, it gives me something to do, I just keep playing the demo, getting everything I have lost... I'm not playing LBP1 again any time soon, I don't think!2010-12-22 19:59:00

I like Sebastian's Hair. Especially in the beginning of Avalon's level where the orange tram whisks you around places. It looks so bouncy!

Here you go. These are condensed versions, but you get the gist of it. You can probably find the full Avalon level somewhere on YouTube.
I'd say it's not worth the download if you have the beta. Apparently it's a pretty hefty file.

I'm slightly worried. While the Avalon level is really awesome and fun gameplay wise, but it lacks a lot of detail making the background scenery look really bland(the characters and stuff are cool though) D: also, does anyone else not think that the rocket arena is the WORST story level in the history of ever? I've seen better levels on the worst end of cool pages :/2010-12-22 20:43:00

just played the demo. lets just say BEST. LEVELS. EVER. if the rest of lbp2 tops these levels. the results would cause people to explode from awesomeness. i am completely serious about this. i mean how could rocket firing hats. grappling hooks and springs. flying cats. sonic barks. and zero gravity in three levels be topped? not even please buy the full version messages and no create mode can make it not worth it!2010-12-22 22:32:00

Not really worth the download if your already in the Beta.

Am I the only one who didn't like the Avalon level? I thought the control on the Rabbit and Dog were very heavy and clunky. The whole level looked very bland as well. They should of at least included the other two levels in the Beta. The Sackbot level and the Spaceship level are awesome, they really showcase the overall improvement in quality from LBP1.

"There’s lots more cool stuff to come in the new year, as we get closer and closer to release – so I’ll see you all in January with more news " because of this line think there maybe a separate create demo closer to release (i hope any way)2010-12-23 00:18:00

Think that's being a little optimistic dontcha think?

And for those people who thought create mode was in the demo, I won't say "I told you so" - but look at the demo's title:

I was disappointed by the lack of at least one real cutscene (considering this is a story mode demo) and the choice of levels, and to be honest, I don't think the demo would do a very good job at convincing skeptic LBP newcomers to get the game.

At least there are the awesome trailers.

We only thought there would be Create mode because PSBlog (and other sources) said it would be included.

It was a bit misleading, but even the Sony guys seem to be a bit confused as to what is going on with LBP2 - I've seen PSblog reps rabbiting on about completely wrong things in comment sections on several occasions, including one time where they were telling people that costumes have physical effects on sackboy. Mm have had to chip in to correct the Sony guys because they are so clueless. Sony don't seem to get LBP2 at all - hence the slightly weird way they've been presenting the game in their featurette videos.

I think the person who wrote that blog must have been a bit dim, given that the demo's title had "Story Mode" in it. Obviously you'd rather have believed the "including CREATE!" bit rather than the "Story Mode Demo" bit, which was why it was confusing. But yeah, I think Sony's either out of touch with Mm, or getting silly people who don't know what they're on about to write their blogs.

Save? My demo never even made a game save, everytime I play, I just play to re-earn anything I lost. Is it supposed to create a save?2010-12-23 21:08:00

Perhaps it's something else that is corrupted then.

This happens to everyone. Frankly, I'm kind of glad. i can't really DO anything with the items I get, so getting them over, and over, and over again makes the levels more than just play through's. (Plus, every time I play, i get to hear Stephen Fry explain the Pod. YEAH!!!)

I got it and I love it. Managed to ace Tower Of Woop (with a score of 66011), and we found the other two levels amazing as well. Really got me excited, it's just enough without giving us too much. Good job Mm!

Weird how all my LBP1 DLC costumes and stickers were there, I have to say, but oh well, ment my Nariko Sword stayed firmly on my back.
