Will my GOTY items carry over to LBP2?

Archive: 19 posts

I got the "Game of the Year" edition, that has several bits of DLC pre-installed on the CD - History level, MGS, etc. Since these have stickers and costumes that have not been bought/downloaded to my hard drive (as they are on the disc), will I now need to purchase those packs in order to keep costumes, stickers, etc when I buy LBP2? What about Popit items like the paintenator?

Has there been official word on this?

Before you install LBP2 you'll need to save your LBP1 profile to your hard drive (Go to Settings and find Backup Profile). When you launch LBP2 for the first time, it will look for your LBP1 profile and ask you if you want to import it. You do. When you load in your pod, all your LBP1 DLC will be in your popit, including saved costumes, captured objects, etc., etc..2010-12-23 14:50:00

I don't see why they wouldn't be. Mm definitely wouldn't (heck, I don't think even Sony would) be that careless at the expense of all the people who bought the GOTY edition. Even if it's not automatically, I'm sure they'll make sure you have the stuff you paid for.2010-12-23 16:14:00

My GoTY DLC carried over to the demo, so it will almost certainly carry over to the full game. I never bought that DLC off the PS Store or anything, I got it on the GoTY Disc, and it carried over No problems there!2010-12-23 16:44:00

That was a bug that has been patched. You may notice that you get the "You do not own this DLC" message now.

The monster pack costumes I had from GOTY wouldn't function in beta til the 1.01. I suppose they can differentiate between the code that allowed us to have week 1 shirts and whatnot from sackbots, and the code that allows us to have what's actually on our LBP1 profile. I bet an easy way to test it would be to see if you can use your GOTY DLC on an original LBP1 non-GOTY disc, to see if it's encoded into your profile.2010-12-24 00:09:00

probably not because the info has to be read for you to use it.
so unless goty unpackages dlc onto your hard drive, the info cannot be read because there is nowhere to read it from.

I know you can physically 'collect' the GOTY DLC in the levels, and as far as costume packs go, you can always go to the storefront in your GOTY disc and physically 'click' the pack and it starts giving you a bunch of new costume prizes on your screen. guess we'll just see when we see.2010-12-24 00:20:00

Here's my answer to that and hopefully it helps:

I borrowed the GOTY game from my friend to see what the levels were like and (you know how when you play the original game the DLC doesn't show up if you haven't bought it?) when I played the LBP2 Demo the GOTY DLC was still there and I got shocked because I haven't even been playing the GOTY edition. So I think if you have it downloaded then it will show up in LBP2 even if it might not show up on the original LBP disc because you haven't bought the DLC. [edit] like what dr_underwear said.
