One Year Later - Our Miracle

Archive: 25 posts

Some of you may remember the tragic accident my sister Anne and her husband Gerald were involved in just over a year ago which left my sister with multiple injuries including a serious brain injury. The prognosis was very bleak with serious doubts about her survival and subsequent effects caused by her brain injury.

One year later, the time is now right for me to share the wonderful news of an inspirational lady and her strength and determination to fight her trauma and continue her life despite the severity of her injuries.

With an abundance of love, support and care from her family and an amazing inner strength Anne has made a remarkable recovery. Retaining most of her mobility and the ability to hold an intellectual conversation, with the odd made up word here and there, Anne now has a comfortable and happy life despite the permanent damage to her remarkable brain. Having an almost childlike view of the world, Anne brings us so much joy and reminds us constantly of how much she loves us.

Gerald has fully recovered from his injuries caused by the accident but of course will never recover from the devastating effects of the stroke he had ten years ago.

Having witnessed the process of the long road Anne has travelled to rebuild her life I am in awe of her courage and determination. Anne is our miracle and a true inspiration, I thank God for hearing our prayers and I thank those of you who prayed for us.

I was just thinking about this a little while ago, but, you know, seeing how it is a sensitive subject, I was afraid to ask. I am SO SO SO SO SO happy to hear that she's made such a great recovery. I was so worried and upset for you in the beginning when it happened, because I could empathize so fully with your situation. Icey, thanks for delivering this great news. 2010-12-20 22:37:00

It is truly wonderful, that this sad story has had such a happy ending.
I know you, Icey and Rhy have put a lot into getting Anne back to the place where she is now and you should both be proud of yourselves.
Thank you for sharing this true miracle with us all.

I'm very happy for you and yet sad to hear about this story. This is exactly why we need to continue stem cell research. It could reverse the damage that your sister incurred, but the religious right has made sure that never happens.2010-12-20 23:12:00

This is just such an amazing feeling knowing that some of the nicest, kindest people who have sent their prayers and well wishes to me and my family are literally from all over the world.

There are some very special people in America alone Countess and I am honoured to have made their acquaintance.

Many thanks to everyone for your kind words.

Thanks for the update, Icey I am truly delighted and relieved for Anne, Gerald and for you and your incredible family. I hope that even more improvement might be on the cards as time passes, and also a return to some kind of normality for all of you who have been her carers. The power of love - and prayer - is truly miraculous. I hope you all have a wonderful and very merry Christmas this year. You certainly deserve it x2010-12-21 22:34:00

That's great news! I was thinking of this recently. Glad to hear she's all good.
I think this website's good at praying, because when I asked for a prayer for someone, that person made a 10/1 against the odds recovery.
Faith: Give it a go or you'll never know.
Anyway, Great news! made my day!

I'm so glad to hear this story, Icey. I didn't know about this accident, but if I had I would have certainly prayed for her. I will say a prayer for her continuing improvement and one of thanks as well. Merry Christmas.2010-12-22 00:52:00

That's really sad! It's great to hear that she has recovered but It sucks that she could never be the same again.

I will pray for you and your sister tonight before I go to bed, I promise.

But still, it's amazing how far she's gotten since then.

Congrats and good luck Icey. I hope you and your family (including Anne) will have a wonderful Christmas. Your story alone just made my holiday.

Reminds me of a quote I once read...

Superman's not brave. You can't be brave if you're indestructible. It's every day people, like you and me, that are brave knowing we could easily be defeated but still continue forward.

I'm so glad to hear she's pulling through And in time for the holidays! I hope you all have a very merry christmas together
