Minecraft Server?

Heya guys,
So I was thinking, maybe we could have a Minecraft Server jsut for LBPCers!
We could have many the zany adventure
My internet isn't capable of hosting, but if there was someone, or something out there in the vast LBPC forums who has good internet and a computer they wouldn't mind to keep running for a few hours, they might just show up here

We could have a whitelist too, so no pesky griefers could ruin the fun

When you join the Hamachi network the IP is displayed on the bar. PM me if you still can't find it

Someone already tried making a server, and no one showed interest.

We could have another go at it, but we need to know how many people would be playing on it.

I recently tried to start up a server, so If someone could make one for LBPC (Because I personally dislike all those huge servers that are tied to popular minecraft sites) in which we could play either normal survival mp, (which is always fun), or a server with infinite resources so we could make some epic city or something.

I don't really like unlimited resources, so I have to say I'd prefer MP Survival.

I actually spoke to AssassinatorRFC and he agreed he might run the server when he gets his computer up and running. Also, he could pass on all the lists and saves to someone else incase he couldn't run it on a certain day. What do you think guys?

Also, @LBDude, there wouldn't be any pesky griefers. Only trustworthy people would be allowed join the server

I reckon if we got more than 5 people on the server and started having a bit of fun, more people might come to join.
I was also planning to have one main town where we all live, with a Town Hall full of resources like wood and cobblestone, nothing too rare to really keep away from the whole THE HOUSE IS NOW DIAMONDS theme.

Okay, got good news and bad news:
Good news; I've found a way that Cog or RFC can run the server without any complications!
Bad news; Everyone's going to have to download a program called Hamachi. It's perfectly safe, and completely easy to use. But I just listed it as bad news because I thought it would cause inconvenience for you fine people
Also, yes I have tried to run the server on my computer. But my computer was made for internet only, and I only have like 1.5 gigs of ram 		2010-12-20 22:53:00

Basically I give you a name and a password, you put them into hamachi and join the server, which I have named LBPC server. ONLY the people in the server can connect to the minecraft server and this way it is just impossible for someone to get in without our permission. So, anyone who feels up to hosting the server, here are the links:

OK guys, here's the story. I'm gonna (rather inactively) run the server for the night. Test it out, I'll make the first couple to join the admins.
I will NOT make any appearances, because as of now I only have one PC to run the server on, and If i go on minecraft with the same server I use the server crashes

Yes, the unmanaged version. Then, run it and choose "Join existing network" and enter the detail's I PM to you
The IP will be displayed on the bar.

I still don't get why we have to use hamachi. Wouldn't a normal server with a whitelist work better?

Your not missing much guys, just hold your horses, cog and cybermonkey are working things out. Beta has made most mods outdated and has shut down most servers until those mods are updated for beta. How hamachi will work out for this is kind of a mystery to me. So yea hold up.2010-12-22 02:49:00

@hunted storm - the net tends to make the biggest difference on lag, i'd suggested 2mbs+ upload speed. (which, for the record, I do not have.)		2010-12-22 04:11:00

Okay, so Cog, Sherm and I have all tried running it. I have 3mb upload speed but only 1gig of ram. Cog is backwards, he has alot of ram but since he's in Canada, he's very laggy.
Also, I only used hamachi because If i didn't I would have to forward my ports. Which to be honest...I don't know how to do!
But! Since hunted has the most experience, he may be able to host it, without hamachi.
I'll ask him, and see if we can get this sorted out.
Also @hunted, its all about ram, once you have a 2mb or up internet, It's fine

Just to tell people why we need hamachi, it puts us all on the same network, so it can let people pass your firewall. When I made a normal server, no one could join as I have a firewall up, but when we were sharing the same network, everyone could access my server. Unfortunately, it was laggy and the server kept kicking everyone 2010-12-23 06:18:00

Yeah, as he said, it keeps us all together, and creates a port with a unique IP code. So to be honest, it's pretty essential unless the host knows how to forward ports		2010-12-25 23:25:00
