Mutual Exclusion and Randomizing Switches?????

Archive: 6 posts

omg...
i read incinerator22's logic thread and it is way over my head. I like to think of myself as someone who grasps concepts quickly but that post just made me feel dumb... I have no idea what Mutual exclusion is or means? And the randomizer he made simply confuses me. I posted a thread(Auto randomizer? (https://lbpcentral.lbp-hub.com/index.php?t=41530-Auto-Randomizer&p=705835#post705835)) on how i could make a randomizer that selects something out of five, but doesnt select the same one twice, and the randomizer has to select something every time. Someone said to make a randomizer and a mutual exclusion switch and all kinds of things, but i just don't understand it!
I feel so stupid asking this since incinerator made a great thread but..... how does mutual exclusion work and how can i use it to make a randomizer for my level?
Thank you for wasting your time answering my dumb questions!

This is the description I posted on the device originally (here (https://lbpcentral.lbp-hub.com/index.php?t=25067-Mutual-Exclusion-Switch):

The principle is for a device that has n inputs and n outputs, where only one of the outputs can ever be active at any one time. So if you activate input 1, output 1 becomes active... activate input 2 and output 2 becomes active, but output 1 becomes inactive, etc.

Basically, only one output is ever on.

Probably the best way to learn about them is to watch them and fiddle with them. Look at the options on all the switches and stuff, tweak them and see what happens.2010-12-18 01:30:00

ok, so now i understand it, but how can that be used so that the randomizer doesnt select the same thing twice ever?

Randomize the inputs to the Mutual Exclusion switch. Viola!

I had a video of a more complex thingy here:

I'm sure that's no help at all. Watch the things being emitted on the bottom right. As each mutual exclusion piece emits, a "blocker" is emitted beneath it so that no more pieces can be emitted. You just need to destroy the blocker piece beneath it to get a new, non-repeated output.

Frankly, it's complex. I don't play with LBP1 anymore or I'd publish the thing for you.

Ya, im sorry but that doesnt really help... but i really do appreciate your helping me. I just decided to work my level level around not having a randomizer, it should come out fine though. maybe someday ill figure it out and be like "wow... i can't believe i didn't understand this...." but thank you anyways!2010-12-18 03:35:00
