From various wikis:

One Piece (ワンピース, Wan Pīsu?) is an epic pirate adventure manga (ported even into an anime) written and drawn by Eiichiro Oda, created in August 1997.

One Piece is the story of a boy named Monkey D. Luffy who was inspired by Shanks, a pirate. At the start of the series, 22 years from the present timeline, 1500 AOS a pirate named Gold Roger, known as the Pirate King was executed, but before his death, he told the crowd of his treasure, "One Piece". His death sparked what would become the Golden Age of Pirates as countless pirates set out to look for his treasure. Luffy becomes one as well, desiring to be the next Pirate King and sets out to gather crewmates and begin his adventures.

This is the starting point of one of the coolest stories ever.
The story is really fun, lightearted for the most part, but with some of the most EPIC moments ever.
And it's full of good values, like friendship.
In Japan it's a blockuster capable to sell almost 3 millions of copies of each issue.
Does someone read/watch this series?

One note for the manga readers, since the story of the manga is beyond the one of the anime, if you want to discuss the story, put it in spoiler please.

I remember watching a cartoon or two of this. It was a little different, in my opinion, but was entertaining nonetheless. I never knew it was so big around the world.

Some pretty interesting info there too.

Yeah, actually One Piece is the most sold manga ever, reaching more than 180 millions of volumes (all the series) sold only in Japan.
I really think that the manga is way better than the anime, since the story times are a lot tighter and compelling, and there aren't fillers.

Anime = Animation
Manga = Graphic Novel.

Animes are usually more toned down than manga, for the general audience, since its shown on Tv.
For example, while in the manga of a series they'll cut down a character's arm, in the anime, they'll just "injure" the arm, without severing it.

Hope that helps!

The best thing about it, is that it is so easy to read. I could read 20 issues, and not realise that half an hour had gone by!2010-12-17 23:07:00

Indeed, I've spententoire afternoons reading manga online w/out noticing.
USually got 20ish chapters every time I read.

Don't worry Juto, most people feel the same, 4Kids has an incredible reputation for effin up anime. XD
Just do what everyone does, watch it online, subbed.

Thx for that pointless comment, that neither helps or has nothing to do with the thread's discussion, now if yer done, feel free to post something useful, interesting, helpful, that adds to what is being discussed or nothing at all next time instead.

@OP:

Never really gotten around to seeing OnePiece (ironically abbreviated "OP" ) because with so many episodes and chapters already out....I'm not sure if I feel like catching up to it, you know? XD

Bleach and Naruto have many, sure, but those I watched before they had so many episodes, so I easly caught up, but this is sooo many eps/ chapters! >_<

Unless someone tells me the list of episodes that are actually relevant, so I can skip the hundreads of filler episodes, Idk when I'll get around to whatching/ reading it tbh.
(I have a lot of series to catch up to, finish as it is. XD)

Leon, I really think you'll miss a lot of you don't read the series from the beginning.

What's so really different in One Piece from every other comics is the story.
The more you read the manga, the more you understand how much the story is solid and relevant, and how every single small particular is relevant.
The are a lot of sub-plots, recurring characters, and every character is really well done and is never either balck or white, and even "enemies" are always cool characters.
But everything is tight, well plotted, coherent and there aren't plot holes and/or discrepancies.
Little clues that are mentioned like in chapter 80 then becomes relevant at chapter 500, and when you read it you're like WOOOAH!!! Cool!

That's not like Naruto and Bleach were everything is just there to lead to an epic (not always epic perhaps) battle.
Naruto and/or Bleach compares to One Piece just like say Blade to Lord Of The Rings.

And I must say that Oda has a particular strength to make charming characters with really few lines.
Like Shanks The Red and his crew perhaps...that are beloved characters but have only appeared like in not even 10 chapters (and manga has 608 ch so far)
And he do knows how to even pick up the words to build his characters, like the evolution of Nico Robin.

Anyway my favourite character is Sanji.

The cooker guy that doesn't want to use his hands since they're too precious is awesome.

Naruto, maybe, but you'll be surprised how many hiddend little details there are in Bleach, that do hint to future stuff, how some stuff make more sense 100 eps later.
(Granted, some filler arcs are nothing but that, but some are to hint to some other future stuff, kinda like the recent filler episode, hinting towards the future "Hell Arc."

Anywho, I'm not saying its bad, or that I wanna skip it, I'm saying it just may tae waaaay too long t catch up to both, like you said, Anime and Manga are both different-ish from each other, and I don't wanna have to see 500Eps of anime PLUS 600 chapters ofmanga, that's just too much, you know?

I told you, its not because I think Bleach or Naruto are better (specially Naruto, too many boring fillers and the story is turning "Meh" in the manga., at least Bleach's fillers are entertaining. ), but its because I started watching them early on.. XD

Yeah, I read Bleach and I started to see it pointless around vol.28, where it only starts to be an endless battle full of power ups and the such.
As I said battles never gets going for long times, and while they more or less follow the classic shonen style, they're a bit more varied and someway unusual.

Actually I don't want to hype what I like, but you seriously understand how many leaps and bounds One Piece is above other mangas only if you read it.
I almost stopped reading other mangas when OP reached around chapter 540, because I couldn't find anything that would give me the same amount of feelings OP gives me, because for me it's not only entertainment but even something emotional.

I can imagine that catching up all the OP stuff is something that seems out of reach, but I think it's 100% worth.
I think I've read the manga at least 3 times.
Once in the scanlations, 1 in the first Italian edition, 1 in the Italian reprint and it never gets old, but every time it gets cooler since you can catch all the little things you missed in the first read.

If I can suggest you, you can avoid to see the anime completely and just watch some fan made AMV, there are some made really well.
