How do you actually get some plays on your levels?

Archive: 10 posts

My past two leves have gotten 1-2 plays and they're really good :/ It's ridiculous to see levels that have barely and effort make the cool pages or get 40 plays.2010-12-16 04:45:00

Sometimes, yes. posting a level at 2 in the morning wont do you much good. I would say make sure you post it at a busy time, like night when people are beginning to get home from school or work. Also, make sure your levels' names are captivating and draw interest. Not "PLAY THIS LEVEL NAO", but something creative. I would also like to note that the icon for the level is what a lot of people use to decide if it is worth playing or not.2010-12-16 04:54:00

Now that lbp.me is live, that should help. Have your friends play it and comment on it, etc.2010-12-16 05:06:00

Submit it to the lvl showcase of LBPC, do F4F (feedback for feedback), and, if your level happens to more or less follow these guidelines (https://lbpcentral.lbp-hub.com/index.php?t=34118-How-Does-the-Community-Spotlight-Actually-Work), worry not, the LBPC spotlight team, in which I'm proud to be included, will spotlight it, thus putting it on the front pafe of LBPC among other great levels.
That alone should give you enough plays. Granted; you won't get nearly as much as some of the terribly uncreative first page levels, but I'd personally be happy if my level was to get played by 100 players.
Yes, 100 might seem like an unimpresive number, but think of it: would that much people be able to fit in your house? Chances are not.

How to get plays on a level?

Its simple, to get plays on your level, people hae to play the level, the couner should go up by 1 per person, it increases by one per person each time the level is re-played I believed.

So you don't really have to 'do' anything, you'll get plays, even if yer not doing anything, even if yer PS3 is off, so no worries.

I would say, first and foremost, your level has to be good and overall fun to play. Not just some cut and paste bomb and R1 level. Then try to come up with a nice and creative name and make sure its properly worded and and the start of each word is a capital letter. People tend not to play level with all capitals or all lower case because it just seems noob or rushed (sometimes they are great levels though) unless ofcourse your Japanese and also have Japanese writing to describe you level. They tend to get plays anyhow because they are often great levels and at the very least, very creative.

Then make sure you spend some time creating a nice icon... It doesnt have to be lettered if you cant design them nicely but it can even be a collection of picturs, symbols or even a segement of your level to make it look nice and show people you really spent some time and put your heart into it. Maybe even check out an unskewered icon tutorial for nice and unskewered icons. The best way and to take a photo is most often in front view under complimenting lighting. A great icon can generate many plays even when a level does not live up the quality of the icon. And its best to publish at certain times like later in the day when everyone is at home and especially on weekends. Holidays can help with plays too but if your level is too hard, kids may take your rating down making a holiday release actually detrimental to your level if it isn't aimed at that target audience.

Then lastly, showcase your level here on LBPC and then maybe even add a few photos right after your level is published to show people you took the time to do that for them. People often dont play a level if they cant see any photos. If you make a video of your level, provide the LBPC folk a link for it too. And if you can, most definitely try to do F4F. This will help you connect with the more serious creators as we LBPC peeps often are. This will help provide you with much more legitimate feedback than from the hyperactive 'cool' kids on the cool pages. Good luck with it all!

I do like the LBP.me look, just checked it out. It also aloows you to see people that played your level, unlike the scoreboards were doing for me. I have to thank schtingwind for testing out several I made. So I think I have to agree the new site may help. I tried to start a feedback group a while back, but had no luck. The F4F can work very well, but you can also hit tons of F4Fs that never reply back...but then again F4F is not as much for plays as it is for feedback. I am tempted now to delete a level and republish so I can see the one star people listed out (the people that spam the levles, or used to). Then delete the level and republish to see if it is the same people over and over.2010-12-16 18:12:00
