Question about Profile Backups

Archive: 14 posts

I'm sad to report that my 80GB PlayStation 3 has received the much dreaded Yellow Light of Death. It can still turn on, but barely long enough for me to backup my files. Anyway, on to the question.

If you backup your profile (after the Leerdammer patch), will your levels, along with your collected items and story completion, be included in the backup?

Thanks, in advance.

Try to start it up and copy the profile to a memory stick.Memory sticks are quite helpful in doing backups! 2010-12-16 05:53:00

Hope someone can help.

We recently replaced the hard drive in one of our PS3's. I had saved or thought I did save my LBP game files onto a USB memory stick.

I put in the memory stick and under the XMB: "Game"; "Saved Data Utility (PS3)"; found a folder: "USB Device (Flash Disc)" which had "LITTLE BIG PLANET Profile Data" dated 11/8/2010 so from just over a month ago when I saved it....perhaps I had to save something else too in order to save the game file??

When I look under the XMB again under "Game"; "Game Data Utility" there is a LBP game file and profile with todays date and when I play the game it is just like I am playing it for the first time.
under "Saved Data Utility" there are no LBP files.

Please help, what did I do wrong, how can I save it in the future (on my other PS3) so i don't have to start from stratch in the event this happens again? I love the game but starting over again for the 3rd time is a little annoying. I looked online for answers but everythig was very confusing to me LOL
This forum looked like the best place to get answers.

If you need a better explanation just shout.

PSN: Marnbaby if you want to add me and play LBP or other games.

I'm pretty sure all you have to do is copy the file from the flash drive to the HDD. Select the file, press triangle, and choose Copy from the menu that pops up, and then choose New Saved Data. This is just off the top of my head though, and this might not work after Leerdammer.

If that doesn't restore your LBP data, then, from your Pod, go to the Start menu. From there go to Settings > Profile Settings and choose "Import Profile".

And if THAT doesn't work, try deleting all the patch data and then doing the first method.

Hi and thanks for your msg Blue, last night when checking out LBP from my Pod I happened to click on "settings" and then saw the Upload Profile, which i did after the loading profile got to 100%, clicked on ok and back and then i got an msg: "There was an unexpected error" ...grrr
so do you think that is because of the version?
it is possible to save the profile info from my other PS3 and upload it onto the new PS3? i understand if i do that trophies will not work, but that is the least of my worries haha

is there instructions on how to delete the patch data here?

I look forward to your reply.

What I know about the version is this - after Leerdammer (a LBP patch), LBP profiles were overhauled, meaning that it changed where they were saved (I think from Game Data to Save Data). This also caused backed-up profiles from before Leerdammer to be incompatible with versions of LBP after Leerdammer, and vice versa. About deleting the patch data, I don't know exactly, but I think it's stored somewhere in one of the folders under Data. Sorry, I don't remember much about this right now, but tomorrow I'll be able to get on the PS3 again and give you better advice.2010-12-17 06:29:00

makes sense, well we deleted all game / data saves for LBP and then when i put in the LBP disc it gave me the option to update to version 1.10 (I think was the v #) instead of clicking OK , i just choose O (circle) and then started the game with no patches i assume. So after getting in and playing through the start up to get into my Pod, choose Start, and Settings and then usually there was a Profile option...this was not there....I assume it has something to do with the "uploading of a profile" option was not available before a certain version?? do you know if there is someway i can update the game to a particular version that would work with uploading my profile off the USB Stick? the USB stick data date was 11/08/2010

btw I uploaded 2 other games from that USB stick and they worked fine, Assassins Creed, & Drakes Uncharted 2, so I don't think it is because the data on the stick is corrupt...

oh yes another thing i noticed was that when we "copy" the game data from the memory stick to the PS3, the MB don't match up...stick says 4748MB and PS3 game data says 4743MB...strange right...so maybe there is something wrong with that file after all??

Well thanks again Blue for helping me out, your the best <3

Sorry to bring this thread back from the dead, but I have another question I must ask. I just got my new PS3 and everything is all fine and dandy, but when I tried to load up LittleBigPlanet with my old back-up profile data, the opening loading sequence said that it was corrupt. I'm thinking that since I hadn't updated the game when I tried this, it couldn't properly read the back-up profile data from the Leerdammer update. Could that be it or is my profile really corrupt? Thanks in advance.2011-01-08 07:09:00

What do you mean?
It should update 1st, tehn read the save file, so I don't see how that can be an issue.

Anyways, try uninstalling the game and re-copying the save-data into the PS3, then start the game, install/ update, and tryimporting the profile again.

Hope that helps!

I meant that the back-up I had was imported from when I had my old PS3 (after Leerdammer), so it wasn't the same old save file system as when the game started out. What I was thinking was that since I hadn't updated the game when I tried to import my old profile, it couldn't read that version of the save data since it was looking for the old type (when the whole game saves were still saved in Saved Data Utility and not the Game Data Utility), so it showed mine as corrupt. Could that be it? I hope I explained better this time.

Ah yes, I see what you mean, but that still shouldn't be a problem, it's the same as if you would've started playing the game again if you had stop for a long while, it should make the transition regularly.

Srry to say this, but your profile may indeed be corrupt.

How wonderful.

EDIT: I just updated the game and tried to import my old profile—she works!
