the 'sackies' was an awards event that Mm ran this time last year.
There were many catagories from levels to machinimas and every nominee got crowned.

Despite the claims that it was an anual event, it is understandable that Mm have been very busy with LBP2

and I have seen no sign of it yet, I dont think they left it this late last year... but who knows

Not to mention that it was ever-so-slightly controversial

Seems to be the Norm these days. I still feel the tension from the Sacktastic "Prequel to the sequel" competition.

true, but there might be a possiblity that they will do it after releasing LBP2, as like the LBP1 closing ceremony or something.
and I realize it won't close but most people will be moving to LBP2.
well, most of us anyway.

Taking in account that last year's winner was that deadspace level, which, not only wasn't outdated in comparision to the rest of the levels, but it also was worse than some of its contemporanious lvls, I can't help it but to feel absolutely unexcited for such event, if it is to come. As most of the LBP systems that aim to choose la cr?me de la cr?me (see the cool pages, or the Mm picks, I fear) of LBP, it felt unfair and broken.

Not to mention that competition gets me on my nerves, lol. That's actually the reason I prefer LBP over many other games.

Does anyone know if the 2010 Sackies are going to happen?

I heard you were a shoe in for the best level with a jeep and a wooden bridge that didn't collapse when walking over it.

..no... no clue. It was pretty controversial, but I am almost hoping they do to see what makes what catagories. However seeing there hasn't been any post from CC about nominations etc like last year... I kinda doubt we see it again.

I called Spaff and asked him to cancel the 2010 Sackies to make sure that there was no chance of Security Breach winning. Sorry.2010-12-16 12:57:00

I was just thinking about the Sackies. I think it's safe to say that last year's awards.... erm... didn't go so well? Things are different a year later I guess... but I still am not sure that competition in a creative community like this is ever a good idea. There are always going to be a lot of hurt feelings and someone is always going to be left out unintentionally. (for the record, I didn't win, nor was I nominated for a Sackie last year... but I would feel the same way about the awards even if I HAD been nominated.)

That being said, I guess it's a good thing that mrsupercomputer's petty squabble with the diabolical javi_haguse has caused these to be cancelled.

That sounds alittle like why we dont have sports day in schools anymore, Take it from me I never won anything on sport day's but i had fun. Its just not for me but im sure them that was good at it maybe it give them a boost to maybe take it up more and to try and get better and better as well as the one that didnt come fist to try harder and keep pushing yourself to try new things.

That's a valid point, too, jump. Like I said before, things are a lot different this year... with lbp.me in place, I think we're going to see a lot of good, unknown levels get discovered because it will be much easier to spread the word. It was all just way too haphazard last year. Personally, looking back at my levels, I don't even think I would have been nominated were it done in a different manner, and I'm all right with that... but there were people like Morgana and Grant, who make AWESOME levels, and they didn't even get so much as a single nod.

That's the problem when you have SO many levels and don't have a good way to properly showcase the good ones. And that was the situation last year. But, like I said, things have changed with lbp.me, and I certainly hope it's for the better.

I guess the main thing we've got to keep in mind, also, is that Media Molecule is really involved with getting LBP2 finished and running without bugs that blow things up, so I'm sure they have little time for something like that Sackies right now.

I guess, though, if someone really wanted to, they could organize a community run awards show... but I think CyberSora is already doing something like that.

Well yea, the reason why I asked was cause I thought that I finally had a chance to be nominated for this year. (and finally beat mrSC at something lol)
I just thought it would be perfect timing since this is the last year for LBP1 and a bunch of great levels were published. It would be a nice way to close the LBP1 chapter.

well, javi, if it means anything, I'd nominate the hell out of you. You do beautiful work. That statement won't get you a crown, but it's something, right? 2010-12-17 17:58:00

Oh thanks Kappa, it does!!
but u know, it's not even about the crown. So many ppl have them that I think they lost their value. To me is more about the acknowledgment!
and since I didn't build squat after Security Breach, that was my only shot at it lmao!

That will never happen... unless the category was "Most time taken to make a rather sub par level in which the creator should have simply given up instead." You'd win that for Security Breach no contest.

Meh. All my stuff is never finished as of late, so, am I wrong in saying I really don't care?

The people that would win anyways are the people that everyone knows about, not really the best.

Either way, competition(s) is/are subjective.

I think it would be cool to have the last Sackies of LBP1 this year.. *Hopes his Cursed Mirrors would get nominated, even if it didn't get spotlighted. It's a good level *2010-12-18 12:36:00

Why would MM have ever let the community vote? We voted for the levels we thought were best, then someone got the bright idea of adding the most hearted level and most played level to the list. (Which, by the way, was moderated a few months later and has not been restored.) Voting made us feel good about ourselves but ultimately did nothing. No surprise that the most played level got the most votes.

Many people congratulated Little Big Dead Space and that was that. Some people defended it by saying it was groundbreaking for such an early level. But nobody on LBPC voted for it, and in reality, I'd be surprised if any of you didn't think it was crap. It's always tough to deal with talking about quality, like with the spotlights. We try to separate levels into two categories: great and spotlight-great. But really, there's more, and Little Big Dead Space was crap. Yes, it was very good for its time, but that wasn't at all the point of the contest.

So that's my uncensored opinion... If they do it, I hope they never get the whole community involved. But really, if they do do it, why does it matter? Sure it's nice to know what MM thinks about our levels but the fact that they made the game doesn't make their opinions more or less valid than anyone else's. I have a list of my favorite levels buried in my mind: I don't need MM to tell me theirs.

It already happened in September. I won every category and they decided it was best to delete any evidence that it ever happened. Said they'd give me an MM Pick and a job if I kept my mouth shut. They lied.2010-12-19 06:59:00
