Critiques, please!

I picked up my rarely-used tablet earlier and figured I would attempt drawing my sackboy. Since I am neither familiar with drawing sackpeople or using my tablet, I figured I would post the outline of the picture before I added color and finishing touches. http://i229.photobucket.com/albums/ee151/egakutwo/rottensack1.png This isn't at all the finished project. I just wanted everyone's opinion of what it might need before I put any more effort into it ![]() | 2010-12-15 04:49:00 Author: RottenAvocado ![]() Posts: 319 |
Pretty cool. Although some of the lines don't join up :O eg. the hat, mouth? Nice drawing though...I want a table ![]() | 2010-12-15 05:00:00 Author: rseah ![]() Posts: 2701 |
I'm really liking the pose, and the angle of the head. However, the left (our left) arm is a bit too long - Remember that the tips Sackboy's fingers line up with his knees. It's great otherwise, I'm looking forward to seeing it finished. ![]() | 2010-12-15 05:18:00 Author: TheZimInvader ![]() Posts: 3149 |
I liked my previous sketch, but it doesn't really look much like sackboy, and the pose isn't very dynamic, so I tried to make something a bit more interesting. http://i229.photobucket.com/albums/ee151/egakutwo/badashsackboyah.png Same as the above, critique it please! I'll be adding the details ( like eyes, lol) later. Some of the lines are a tad too sketchy, so I'll be going over them neater later. | 2010-12-15 18:17:00 Author: RottenAvocado ![]() Posts: 319 |
Totally awesome! It's perfect, though I think the legs could be a bit bigger. | 2010-12-15 19:01:00 Author: TheZimInvader ![]() Posts: 3149 |
Alright, I'm finished with it! *drum roll* http://i229.photobucket.com/albums/ee151/egakutwo/avocadosackboy.png Tell me what you think. I'm really proud of it. | 2010-12-16 00:30:00 Author: RottenAvocado ![]() Posts: 319 |
Wow... The pose is awesome! This is the first thing that comes to mind when I think " double- 0 sack." I also love the textures you used on the paintinator and his skin. Nice work! | 2010-12-16 00:54:00 Author: dragonember ![]() Posts: 607 |
Wow! The colored version is so great that I completely miss what I would have seen if it wasn't colored! Great job with this. Although I must say, the arms seem to be a bit longer than they should be, and his legs are a little too short. Get those right, and you've got yourself one good lookin sackboy. | 2010-12-16 01:22:00 Author: eagerneph ![]() Posts: 1536 |
Thanks for the feedback everyone! Yeah, I just logged onto lbp and checked my sackboy's proportions. his arms barely go past his head when he holds them out ![]() | 2010-12-16 01:34:00 Author: RottenAvocado ![]() Posts: 319 |
Man, now that is just awesome. | 2010-12-16 03:03:00 Author: TheZimInvader ![]() Posts: 3149 |
That coloured version is stunning... A lot better than most of my stuff. ![]() But since you are asking for critiques, here goes.. The perspective on the arms and paintinators are a bit off, his feet look a bit strange, and his fingers are too long and narrow, and they look a bit... strange. :S But other than that, excellent work! I would like to see more. ![]() | 2010-12-16 03:21:00 Author: Sage ![]() Posts: 2068 |
I was watching this thread when it first came up and thought.... oooh - that looks like you might have some talent. Then I just saw the coloured version and realised I should have posted before because that is just great! Perspective looks pretty good - not 100% accurate - but who cares - it looks good! Also use of textures within colour sections are well chosen and give it some more life. Critiqu??? Well I guess my only suggestion would be to deepen the shadowing just a touch as it looks a tiny bit flat in areas. I guess Zim has some healthy competition!! lol. It takes an unusual talent to do cartoony stuff and I certainly don't have it.... always regretted that.. ![]() Just great to see real artists here. Thanks for sharing. Thank you again for all the feedback, everyone! I really appreciate it. Rhy, your right about the shadows. I kept looking at them thinking "Something isn't quite right" and that was it. I made the shadows one whole layer, so when I blurred them and adjusted their brightness it adjusted all the shadows. I actually haven't used textures till this picture. I was gawking at ZimInvader's pictures and saw where a texture was used on her turtle artwork and thought "I should try that." -edit- Alright, I altered it a bit. Tell me what you think ![]() http://i229.photobucket.com/albums/ee151/egakutwo/RottenSackBro.png | 2010-12-16 22:40:00 Author: RottenAvocado ![]() Posts: 319 |
Veeery nice! Highlights are good too... as is the new sig, which is cleaner but still grungy. Not sure I'm keen on the outside "movement" light yellow lines as it seems to distract from the main image a touch. They also seem a bit lost in the alpha channel of the png. Also, the colour splats on the barrel of the paintinator look messy - perhaps a single larger drip? How about a simple shadow underneath? VERY nice work! Really nice job Rotten, the textures are awesome and there are a few problems proportionwise but other than that, nice job plus that's one sweet costume ![]() | 2010-12-17 22:57:00 Author: Dragonvarsity ![]() Posts: 5208 |
