Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 (SPOILERS)

Archive: 8 posts

OMG COD SUX DOOD U SUCK LOLOLOL
Raging Halo, Half-Life, etc. fanbois will be destroyed with a side of peanuts. This thread is for a MATURE conversation about Call of Duty: MW2. If you have any ranting go do it in a diary.

So my cousin gave me his copy of Modern Warfare 2 a week back, and I've been loving it. I haven't played online multiplayer yet (I've heard bad things about it...) but I have played the campaign. In my opinion, the game itself is worth the campaign.

From a Russian airport, to a Russian-invaded Washington D.C., to Afghanistan, the campaign reaches everywhere, location AND emotion wise. The only flaw I saw with it was that there was way to many character deaths, but that is an ignorable flaw.

Special Ops works amazingly. Sneaking through a winter forest is suspenseful, and having your same friend shoot a missile at you is quite annoying. Other than that, not much to say there.

I've only played offline Free-For-All when it comes to Multiplayer, but I'm already in love with Create-A-Class.

Also, for those who want to say that each Call Of Duty is the same every year, I wouldn't know that due to me only ever playing one mission in World At War, and a good chunk of Black Ops. So yeah, for a first REAL experience, it is a really amazing game.

So, who is your favorite character in the campaign (for me it's Ramirez. RAMIREZ, DESTROY THAT NUKE WITH THIS PENCIL), and why?

My humble opinion on Call of Duty. I loved the whole Call of Duty series up untill MW2 (I haven't played it but am not too fussed). I loved Call of Duty 4 on PC, I found the multiplayer fun and the atmosphere of the singleplayer campaign well done. Looking at MW2, it just looks too "gung ho" hollywood for me (the singleplayer anyway). I loved the very first Call of Duty game back in 2003 because of the feeling of being one humble soldier (supplemented by the depiction of British, Canadian, French, Russians and Americans so you get a wider perspective of the war in Europe). This owed to the many legendary set-peices like the banks of the Volga and the claustrophobic streetfighting in Stalingrad. To me Modern Warfare 2 seems to have traded these epic sort of scenes for a hollywood approach. Although I appreciate many people would prefer this sort ofgame style, I'm not a big fan of it (speaking as a die-hard valve fan of course ).2010-12-14 20:21:00

I loved the campaign, many epic moments (just losing for Black Ops). The multiplayer was decent, there were many exploits and flaws, but it was nice to play. I confess that I miss the Grenade Launcher + Scavenger combo...
Special Ops was good, but the only thing that kept me away from getting platinum. (I have 90%, just need Star 69 and Downed but Not Out) But I think that the zombies are funnier.
I don't see why everybody hates it, it's funny after all. And you're talking to someone who grew up playing BF2.

I hate it.

If you liked the campaign, then you need to play the first Modern Warfare. If you've been playing the series, then you'd know by now that MW2 dropped a lot of standards campaign wise.

Unlike the other CoDs, this one ended so cliche. Everything was idiotic (who puts over 50 soldiers in one area?) and I thought the storyline could've done better. As for the first MW, it was more realistic and it gave me a feeling of triumph, while MW2's storyline made me go "WTF? Did I win, or what?"

Finally, the online was a HUGE step forward, that I have to admit. But alas, the spawn system was terrible and the weapons were way too over powered. Other CoDs take 5-6 shots to kill you, whereas MW2's shots kill you in 2-3 hits, some even taking 1. Not only that, but sniping in there was ridiculous. Quick scoping was fun, but not if it an obviously missed shot suddenly kills you. The one thing that disappointed me the most was that Infinity Ward didn't do anything to fix the problems. All they did was release one patch (correct me if I'm wrong) and then went straight into developing maps, just for the money (I can't blame their money strategy, but they should have listened to the community).

That's my opinion though. People can disagree with me, but I still think that CoD2, CoD4, and CoD: BO are the best CoDs so far, BO being number one.

I actually consider Call of Duty and Modern Warfare as separate series, because of the HUGE differences between them.2010-12-15 00:10:00

Lol, Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare. That's one game, yet you see them as different series'?

Anyways, when ever I start up a campaign for the first time, (well, MW2 and BO's) I like it for a bit, but, by the end, I realize how stupid the story was and how so many things didn't make sense, or shouldn't of even been there. When I play a campaign, I want to enjoy the story, and if I don't, then I can't take the game seriously.

Uncharted 2 did very well with this, it had a ton of action and was quite like COD in that aspect, yet, it was able to have characters you cared about and a story that made sense and didn't feel like it was just there to give you a reason to blow up stuff.

CoD 4 and MW2 are one, the rest are other and Black Ops is the black sheep. (haha Black Ops -> black sheep, got it? Damm you!)

Now you got a point. My first Call of Duty ever was Big Red One for PS2, and the campaign was really cool. It lacked epic moments, but the story was great.

I found the campaign to just be an endless chore of pinpoint accuracy headshooting, and the campaign was quite obviously written by someone who's only experience of war is from watching full metal jacket again & again, and then thinking they are an expert in military terminology.

For a AAA+ title , I was decidedly underwhelmed.
