Sibling's Tale
Archive: 19 posts
The great country of Fief is overwhelmed by war, as our brothers try to stop the Vinaelians from taking over, and bringing forth the mighty demi-god Drugan. They claim that it will send the world into a new era, an era full of peace and joy, but I don't believe them. Now is the time to rise, and fight back! We will not let Drugan rise! We will stand our ground! WE. WILL. FIGHT! ---- What is Sibling's Tale? Sibling's Tale is a co-op LittleBigPlanet 2 game, showing the adventures of two brothers during the Great War of Fief. There will be two sets of levels, one for each brother. One player plays one set, while the other plays the other. Information from one set will be crucial for the other, like a code for a door, or a key (sticker) that unlocks a chest. Once you finish the game, the two players can switch storylines and relive the experience. What is the story? A mysterious cult, Vinael, is trying to awake a mighty demi-god, known as Drugan, from her slumber. They claim that Drugan will bring forth an era of peace and joy, but the citizens (and goverment) of the island/country/continent of Fief believes the demi-god can only bring destruction and chaos. Thus, a war has broken out between the two, and the fate of their world is at stake. The game documents the adventures of two brothers, Jac and Mac, as they fight in the war. Jac is fighting to keep Drugan asleep, believing that his side is doing good things, and the Vinaelians are comitting acts of pure evil. Mac starts out fighting to keep Drugan asleep as well, but starts to realize that the soldiers of Fief are even more cruel and unforgiving than the Vinaelians. Thus, he decides to help out Vinael, believing that perhaps Drugan will bring peace. I won't give out any spoilers, but a big part of the game is Jac discovering the 'sins' Mac commits. Tell me more about the gameplay. Jac will use a sword, and be more speed-based. Mac will fight with a hammer, and be more damaged-based. The differences between the two will be minor. The game will be slightly free-roamish, with some sidequests you can do and little extra areas you can explore. There will also be cool things to find, and possibly a secret ending for finding all of a certain group of items. There will be a companion system, where you can have up to one companion follow you around and help you fight. If another player is with you, they will control the companion. It will work by going up to a machine-thingy, where a menu will pop up. You can open your pop-it and place a companion's sticker on the menu, thus spawning them and causing them to follow AND fight for you (or another player to control them). Oh, and what about the technology? The brothers' emotions change based on what is around them. For example, if an enemy is nearby they will be angry. If an ally is nearby, they will smile. If no-one is around, they will have a blank expression. The cutscenes will also be epic and filled with detail. The music guy (azilidaz) is quite epic, thus making them even more awesome. Prepared to be wowed! I also plan to have the enemies not be a 'run in and hope for the best!' type of enemy. So you can look forward to that. The controls are also pretty simple. You have a special button, an attack button, jump, and so on. The controls aren't all over the controller and easy to remember. And the music? All I can say is, it's gonna be quite epic. ---- VIDEOS ?None yet! :-( PICTURES ?None yet! :-( CONCEPT ART ?None yet! :-( SOUNDTRACK ?None yet! :-( ---- FINAL STAND The village is being attacked by Vinaels! Arm thyselves, team up, and protect the village at all costs! Final Stand will be a minigame that will be accessed through Sibling's Tale main menu. You and up to 3 friends must defend a village from an endless horde of Vinaels, through placing guards, upgrading your equipment, improving your defenses and more! The characters are: ?Jaec -A mercenary that was hired to protect the village from Vinaels. He's the smart alec of the group, and usually points out the behavior of his team mates. ?Bob Old Joe's pet mandrill. While not speaking English (or any language), it often attempts to communicate with its team mates and will do anything to protect the village. ?Old Joe An insane, 90 year old scientist. Believing science is the only way to save the village, he uses his mighty wooden sword to fend off Vinael invaders. ?Mysterious Man A strange man dressed in the armour of Fief's army, he randomly appeared in town and began to help fend off the Vinaels. | 2010-12-13 01:27:00 Author: Testudini Posts: 3262 |

Beer AND strawberries? ... Brilliant... One quick question though. How do you plan on having each player have their own separate screen? Like P1 can't see what P2 is doing. Get my drift? Not sure if there's a way to do this since I no haz beta. | 2010-12-13 22:39:00 Author: dragonember Posts: 607 |
Clay, this sounds fantastic. Brilliant concept, I have to say. Completely original Beer and strawberries ftw. | 2010-12-13 22:51:00 Author: Keanster96 Posts: 1436 |

Not sure if there's a way to do this since I no haz beta. Beer and strawberries my friends. The two players will be playing separate levels (so sadly local play will not be supported), except for the final and possibly first level. That is why communication is such a big part | 2010-12-14 04:02:00 Author: Testudini Posts: 3262 |
Oh seperate levels?? So players have to go in a chat together or something?? Very cool idea, reminds me of my war-room level, where players had to communicate together and they could summon everyone to this kinda map-room sorta thing to tell each other where to go. I had all the logic and stuff but never finished the gameplay. Still looking forward to this I take it that your just using the beta to test out a few things and will make the game when retail comes out?? either way it sounds cool | 2010-12-14 12:55:00 Author: Skalio- Posts: 920 |

Sorry for double-post, but I have some updates. One, I think I'm going to cancel my other project for this. My other project (LittleBigGalaxy) was a project I was making with another one of my friends, but I haven't heard from him in a long time and in all honestly, the project isn't that..LBP2ish? Dunno the word. Jac is coming along well, and I've developed more of the story. Jac can do a nifty air dash, and almost had a high jump, but that lead to game-breaking wall jumping. /raeg I'm pretty sure now that I won't get around to Mac, mostly because I have no idea what to do for him. Any suggestions? I need a Special Move (like Jac's air dash. I'm thinking of a ground pound, I dunno), and weapon (considering sword, but hammer would be nice as well. RottenAvocado (see below) also suggested a bow, which would be neat). | 2010-12-21 18:51:00 Author: Testudini Posts: 3262 |
I'm sad to say I'm not in the beta, so my suggestions might be impossible and silly. For mobility, you could work around the high jump and have it. Or perhaps his power could be wall jumping. He could acquire this power after he's on whatever side he's on. The architecture there could be unique, with tall buildings and no places for a wall jump to be cheating. Much of his getting around could revolve around wall jumping up vertical buildings. Think As.Creed or Mirror's Edge. I don't know much about the picture your painting for your world, but if magic is involved in any forms, he could fight with it. He could even perhaps manipulate gravity to an extent, which would also influence his wall/high jump. If you are attempting to contrast the two characters, Mac could possibly use a bow or other long range weapon, to help differentiate the two more. | 2010-12-21 20:12:00 Author: RottenAvocado Posts: 319 |

Anyways the game is set to be somewhat realistic (no magic, no giant demons, etc.), thus climbing on flat walls wasn't very..realistic in my opinion. Plus he could climb on ANY type of wall, so if I had a rock barrier to prevent from going back, he could climb over it. I'll keep thinking about the wall climbing ability, but for now I don't think it's gonna make the cut :/ | 2010-12-21 21:57:00 Author: Testudini Posts: 3262 |
Double post. Derp. Well, still not sure on what to do with Mac. But I've developed more of the story and decided to have a big focus on the playable character's emotions and st00f (Example: If they are near an enemy, they are angry. If near an ally, they smile). We also got a music guy (azilidaz on PSN, Sackwise here on LBPC). So yaaay. I'm also considering companions, and they would be controlled by an A.I. or possibly another player. :3 EDIT: Azilidaz is working on a song for the project. It's amazing. | 2011-01-02 18:41:00 Author: Testudini Posts: 3262 |
I'd be glad to help out any way I can! | 2011-01-03 00:01:00 Author: Sackwise Posts: 305 |
This sounds genuinely quite innovative and I look forward to checking it out. Might be difficult getting people to play by the rules and have one player tackle one side of the story each. Assuming that each side of the game will only be played by one of the two people, I don't think it would be cheap to copypasta elements of one side into the other. For example, you could have Mac visit a place that Jac was in two weeks prior. | 2011-01-08 03:16:00 Author: UmJammerSully Posts: 1097 |
Completely redid the OP, with less beer and strawberries. Also, we got a name now. Yaaaaaaaay. | 2011-01-08 06:30:00 Author: Testudini Posts: 3262 |
It's a really great concept, though I can see the weapon system causing problems. It's hard to give handheld weapons a unique feel without making it just "grab to kill". I think that's something you should invest a lot of time in before your start building large parts of levels. | 2011-01-12 02:22:00 Author: Killian Posts: 2575 |
To be honest this seems like an interesting project, but, in all likelihood, the fact that it needs to be played in a very specific way probably will make it so it's nigh impossible to get high play counts, so if you're ok with that :/ But yeah, sounds good but will probably be quite hard to pull off. I jsut hope you dedicate enough time to ARR PEE GEE /cough, looking for applicants /runs | 2011-01-12 21:24:00 Author: RockSauron Posts: 10882 |

I am proud to announce: Final Stand! What is Final Stand exactly? Well, it's a sidegame (only 1 level) that will be accessible through Sibling's Tale main menu. It is sorta like Nazi Zombies, where you have four players fighting against endless hordes. The characters are Jaec, a mercenary, Bob, a monkey, Old Joe, a strange old scientist, and a Mysterious Man. An unnamed village is being attacked by the Vinaels, and it's up to you and up to 3 other friends to stop them! Upgrade your equipment, place guards, improve your defenses, and more! FUN FACT: This idea was originally meant to be in RockSauron's Chains of Time, but he didn't like the story that much and I decided it would fit better in Sibling's Tale. | 2011-01-23 22:49:00 Author: Testudini Posts: 3262 |
