LBP2: Publishing & Rating System. How will it all work?
Archive: 14 posts
Hi there people, first of all I dont have the LBP2 Beta but I know there are no stars in the ratings system. My question is; what do you think of the system in LBP as random as it often seems to be and it's whole stars ratings and cool pages system? Also, what do you think it will be like in LBP2? I think the whole star rating system needs to be tranformed, reconfigured or removed entirely to be honest. The hearts are pretty good though. The reasons I am starting to dislike the whole star rating is for many reasons, but the biggest one is that most people either do not know how to properly review something or simply just click through after they are done playing so whatever the default is, thats what it will remain with no individual thought put into the ratings of levels. It's like "Oh its pretty good so 5 stars" or "oh it wasn't that good so 1 star" like there is no middle ground. I dislike the whole system for this reason and believe it partially ruins it for many people as I have honestly seen many levels that are simply amazing and blow me away and have consistently great feedback and hearts but only have 4 stars and occasionally even 3!! Other times a lame or cut and pasted, crappy bomb or shark or mouse or duck survival will get 5 stars consistently! Haha. So anyway, Id love to hear your thoughts on this and what do you think it will or should be like in LBP2 in terms of the ratings and publishing system? Thanks. | 2010-12-12 23:04:00 Author: LFiers Posts: 161 |
I agree with you entirely Don't they have some happy/unhappy face system in lbp2? It's kind of like youtubes thumbs up and thumbs down from what I hear. | 2010-12-13 08:08:00 Author: Radishlord Posts: 706 |
The rating system is indeed a 'like' or 'dislike' one. But I think the best part is that players aren't forced to vote. So, there's a middle ground that has no bearing on the level's future success/failure. Hearts are more of bookmarks (As they should have been). 'Likes' seem to be the new reward for a good level, there's no trophy for them though. (There are pins however.) | 2010-12-13 08:12:00 Author: Jedi_1993 Posts: 1518 |

(unless I missed any) 3 For giving Give 40 positive or negative votes on community levels Rate 5 brand new community levels (less than 10 plays) Give 160 positive or negative votes on community levels 1 for receiving A level you published was positively rated by 50 unique players | 2010-12-13 10:37:00 Author: Rabid-Coot Posts: 6728 |
Ultimately this system is better. People either like a level, dislike a level or don't feel strongly about it either way. No point letting all of these distinct decisions amalgamate into on ambiguous 4* rating like in LBP1. More power to the people! | 2010-12-13 11:52:00 Author: Asbestos101 Posts: 1114 |
Yea star system is more complex and player usally don't know how many star to give and need to think longer, so simply like or dislike, besides all services currently switching to this system Star system will still be visible for LBP1 levels | 2010-12-13 15:08:00 Author: Shadowriver Posts: 3991 |
This sounds good. I didn't like the star system, as everyone wants to race through it, and the current rating is the defualt. So, if you're levels not doing so well, it will stay at that one because everyone just hits X as soon as it comes up. Besides, people only every rate things 5 or 1 star, which is effectivly like or dislike, so simplyfiying is much better. | 2010-12-13 16:36:00 Author: kirbyman62 Posts: 1893 |
I like the fact that the system now shows how many likes or dislikes your level has rather than simply getting an average like the old system. people can now see how many people liked their level and how many people disliked their level as seperate statistics. I also like that the game boos you for disliking which makes you feel a bit bad for having done it, unless you genuinly feel it deserves it, which seems to have detered the down raters. | 2010-12-13 18:45:00 Author: Smudge228 Posts: 533 |
Hearts are more of bookmarks (As they should have been). I completely disagree with you here, hearts aren't bookmarks, they were never meant to be and should never be used as a bookmark. The ability to queue a level was actually brought in as a 'bookmark' feature, meaning hearts can go back to their original purpose, to say you really liked the level. | 2010-12-13 18:52:00 Author: Doopz Posts: 5592 |

Good point, I have just used queuing to queue levels from lbp.me to the game. Need to use it in-game some more. | 2010-12-13 19:04:00 Author: Jedi_1993 Posts: 1518 |
Queueing is going oh that level loolks interesting I'll set it up so I can find it later. Hearting is going oh I really enjoyed that level I'll "bookmark" it so I can find it again in a few months time. | 2010-12-13 19:10:00 Author: Rabid-Coot Posts: 6728 |

Yeah, so you can play it again some time. Effectively making it a bookmark. | 2010-12-14 06:11:00 Author: Moony Posts: 368 |

This sounds awesome! It really seems perfect and in unison with LBP's personality as a game so whoever thought of this needs a pay rise. people only every rate things 5 or 1 star, which is effectivly like or dislike, so simplyfiying is much better. Exactly my issue for having posted this thread so I'm real glad to hear this is the case but will this remaim for the final, finished product? The ability to queue a level was actually brought in as a 'bookmark' feature, meaning hearts can go back to their original purpose, to say you really liked the level. To me, I break it down like this; playing a level is like hiring a DVD or Blu ray movie... you watch then your opinion is like your rating on it. As you drive to take it back you may say to yourself "Ok that wasn't very good" or "that was great!". But if you really liked it you may think "That was awesome, I'm going to buy this movie!" That to me, with the exception of paying money, is exactly like Hearting a level in LBP and I like it for that reason and believe it should remain intact. | 2010-12-14 07:25:00 Author: LFiers Posts: 161 |

Heart is equal to YouTube "Favorite" feature... that eventually works the same way as bookmark since they stay in the hearted list, queue is just a playlist once played they gone from the list. "Like" and "5 Star" is the way how you say you really liked the level. The same way people misunderstanding "Subscription", it's not because they uber love you, this feature suppose to allow follow peoples video in one place | 2010-12-14 11:56:00 Author: Shadowriver Posts: 3991 |
