Caution : Q-Tips are tools of destruction.

Archive: 9 posts

Not so long ago I have been neglecting my daily "Swabbin' out of the ear after every shower" routine. So I decided to finally clear the gunk-infested pipe I call my ear canal. So I went on ahead and grabbed the usual tool for the job, a cotton swab, more so known as the Q-tip. Now, I've heard doctors say you're not suppose to go and shove these things into your ears and whatnot... Should have listened. So I proceeded onto cleaning, and realized... My right ear has gone deaf. I somehow managed to PUSH a gigantic gooey blockade, deep into my ear. So after a few days of agony, and every hiccup resulting in a sharp searing pain. I finally had it cleaned out by the doctors, and since the right was cleared, everything sounded like it in was HD surround sound. I finally went home, washed my face and the water dripping from the faucet was the COOLEST thing I've heard in a whole week...

To sum up : Don't ever... EVER.... Use Q-tips to clean your ears out. They're a weapon of mass destruction... For your ears.

There are other safer ways and remedies.... I just don't know them... Please enlighten me.. Lol.

Yeah this has happened to me many times. Although I have only had it syringed by doctors once though. Ussually a bit of olive oil or earex works well 2010-12-12 13:56:00

I like using Pens myself . I have a similar problem with my ears too. Basically my Wife tends to Snore like a car with no muffler so I had to resort to using foam earplugs when I slept. I used them for 6 months and now my ears are always dry and itchy inside so I use whatever I can find to scratch them. I do know of a popular way they clean earwax around england ( if that's where you live). They're Called Ear Cleaning Candles (http://altmedicine.about.com/cs/govtregulation/a/EarCandle.htm).2010-12-12 15:03:00

...Why does it sound like this event ended up beneficial to you in the end given your hearing seems to have improved after going to the doctor?

I remember once I shoved a q-tip in my ear so deep it bled for a bit. I still use Q-tips occassionally but am really careful how deep I shove them in. Also, shooting warm water in your ear actually can work pretty well; I've got this hollow rubber ball with a tapering tube on it that for that purpose.

You're doing it wrong.

I've been using Q-Tips since I was born and I never had bad experiences with it, like the one you described. And my ears produce so much wax that I'm thinking of opening a medicinal candle factory and sell candles for 10$ each because they are produced with "a rare wax made in tibet".2010-12-12 18:52:00

A cousin once managed to get a soft-gun ball thing (the little yellow orb some millimeters in diameter) in her ear and then we had to go to the doctor to get it removed. I think she put it in there to annoy me and my little brother...
