Thought this might be an appropriate one .

But yeah it seems that it's on a new engine as well in case anyone was worried .

EDIT: Oh yeah, PG forum... forgot...

MMO? Pretty much exactly what I don't want this game to be... I love Oblivion and Fallout 3, I love they fact that they're single player, without any need for co-op or multiplayer. I really hope that doesn't change. The games are about one person changing the world for better or for worse in an epic story. I honestly think that online would ruin the experience. I guess it depends on how the game plays but unless the online is sensational and not tacked on, I'd prefer it to remain single player. While multiplayer has become THE gaming experience this gen, I still prefer single player games. I rarely play online games.

I really cannot wait to see gameplay. And I hope the new engine has less loading times... it would be amazing if it didn't use "cells" for different areas requiring a loading screen... The Witcher 2 can do it, it's an epic free-roaming game with very little loading, why not Skyrim?

Heh I really CANNOT WAIT!!!

speaking on what Burrich said, i completely agree, i've seen so much recently on speculation of an MMO or it having online and honestly i hope it's false. I see The Elder Scrolls world as one that would be ruined by online play, i hope they make Skyrim as polished as they can for a single player experience or maybe co-op if they feel they need a multiplayer element. Overall though, can't wait to see what the future may hold, i've played my Oblivion disc to the point of exhaustion and hope to do the saem with Skyrim!2010-12-13 21:18:00

Morrowind blew my socks off with the amount of detail in the game (picking up forks, spoons, vases, whatever!) and then I got Oblivion when it first came out on 360 and couldn't help but blurt out an expletive word as I killed my first rat and saw it roll down a slight incline in the first dungeon and noticed its fur move along its body....finally, real 'believable' physics! THEN I made it outside the first dungeon and what happened, yup, EXPLETIVE popped out of my mouth as I was taken by the world outside.

Bethesda has a way with games that immerse me like no other. I can not WAIT for the new one to come out and to see what new graphic engine they have working. Obviously its been years in the making as every one of there games seem to take years. RPG is certainly there forte and I for one, will reserve a copy as soon as available 11-11-2011.

:star::star::star::star::star: <3

Oh, and no to MMO. I could see them doing something like that if they were attempting to increase sales but Bethesda / Elder Scrolls has such a following already, there's no need for them to open that segment up. It could be disastrous if you ask me and im sure thats a risk there not willing to take, especially when they have a proven formula in there RPG games.

I never took to much a liking to Morrowwind, it was a bit more confusing than Oblivion.

Hopefully they'll hire more voice actors too.

Morrowind was hardcore - I loved the way they would give you quest directions like "Head out north from here, eventually you'll see a large pointy rock - turn left at the fork in the road after that, then continue up to the gnarled tree - the door you're looking for is on the eastern side of that hill" ;
It was so easy to get lost and the consequences for straying off the beaten path could be fatal.

Oblivion in comparison was RPG lite, what with it's fast travel and sat nav.

I just hope they don't dumb it down even further to appeal to the mass market. There aren't enough hard-core RPG's anymore.

Oblivion is one of my all time top 10 games so I am very excited for Skyrim. The graphics engine was in desperate need of an overhaul so I am curious to see just how much it has been improved. Ultimately though it's about the gameplay so let's hope it's just as great as Oblivion. Give me a million quests, a beautiful varied world, customization options galore and I am a very happy man 2010-12-15 16:08:00

Oblivion and I shared 600 beautiful hours together. It looks a bit dated now, but it was absolutely astounding when it released, and I get the feeling Skyrim is going to be the same way. Anyone who follows me on Twitter knows how obscenely obsessed I am with The Elder Scrolls, so...yeah, Skyrim's on my radar. 2010-12-17 01:28:00

You had much more freedom in Morrowind compared to Oblivion. It felt more like a pen & paper role-player than any other console game - Oblivion started the dumbing down process.

I just know that Skyrim will be even less in depth than Oblivion - they'll be trying to court the CoD/Halo crowd by making it more of an action game - while shunning the people like me who like a good RPG, who actually made the series a success in the first place.

I hope I'm proved wrong, but I doubt I will be.

Dragonborn, Dragonborn
By his honor is sworn
To keep eveil forever at bay
And the fiercest foes rout
When they hear triumph's shout
Dragonborn, for your blessing we pray

And the scrolls have fortold
Of black wings in the cold
That, when brothers wage war, come unfurled
Alduin, bane of kings
Ancient shadow unbound
With a hunger to swallow the world

Very excited for this!I knew the gameplay would be just as great as Oblivion and I am happy to hear the graphics engine has undergone a complete overhaul. I actually like the dynamic questing, especially when you consider that there is no more class selection. If I picked a particular race in Oblivion it would mean certain side-quests would be available by default versus another race/class. The dynamic quests are basically doing the same thing but in a much more clever way. These quests are custom-tailored to your play style and I think that's pretty cool 2011-01-08 11:03:00

Well, there's been some more information released, and it appears that my fears were realised, they have simplified the RPG mechanics to try and appeal to a mass market audience, even more so than the leap from Morrowind to Oblivion.

Skyrim has 18 skills, down from 21 in Oblivion, which was down from 27 in Morrowind.

Why are they afraid of making a proper hard-core pen & paper based RPG?

Some new interviews up on Game Informer. Todd Howard and then the sound director Mark Lampert. Both are pretty interesting, the sound one has dialogue from the game (new dialogue from the guy that does the voice in the trailer) and some of the Skyrim theme. An animation of a little transforming-sphere-robot guy is shown as well when he's demonstrating the sound it makes when transforming... the animation is great and hopefully a sign of the quality of the rest of the game animations.

All of the new game engine stuff sounds really good... but there's nothing in there at all about the "RPG" aspect of the game.

from what I understand, they've actually removed some of the schools of magic, and weapon skills.

If you ask me Todd Howard is getting sick of the Eldar Scrolls titles.
He was once a "bedroom" developer who had a vision to create the best ****ed RPG that he could... and seemed to be getting close with the likes of Morrowind... then thanks to the success of morrowind, they're now making it more & more generic to appeal to a mass audience and straying further and further away from it's Pen & Paper RPG roots.
I mean, he even described the quest system in Oblivion as "Basically, you get a quest, you kill some creatures, you get a reward" - tsk tsk.
That's not "RPG" by a long shot *shakes head wearily*

Actually there's a perks system in Skyrim. And it sounds like the Dragon Shouts will be a specific button and the longer you hold it, the more words you say and the more powerful the spell. Sounds like there's bit quite a bit of versatility to it.

I'm not going to get my hopes up.
I'm still getting over the dissapointment of the downgrade from Morrowind to Oblivion.

I expect Skyrim to be RPG Light and Action Heavy.

I'm hoping they'll prove me wrong by making something more akin to it's P&P roots - but I highly doubt it given CoDs dominance of the games market.

http://www.gameinformer.com/b/features/archive/2011/01/24/skyrim-building-better-combat.aspx

Okay, Macnme you're not going to be happy. They even call the game an action-RPG in this article. However, I still think the changes they've made sound really good. Mysticism has been removed but they've included all the spells in other categories. Arrows being expensive but powerful I'm not so sure about... I guess I'll see how it plays. Does sound satisfying though, making sniping that much more enjoyable.

I like the way all the spells have different extra effects apart from damage and that each spell has various forms. Also the sneaking alert mode sounds good (huh?! what was that noise?) as does the dagger being in stealth. I always prefer playing stealthily with a dagger and a bow so sounds great for my playing style.

It seems weapons may have been further simplified in terms of levelling, being split between one and two handed weapons. It's just mentioned offhand though so not sure. It does mention that depending on the weapon-type (mace, axe, blade) it will have a different effect after levelling (blade=critial, axe=bleeding after attacking, mace=disregarding armour).

Timed blocking sounds ok but not very realistic... sounds much more like parrying and then holding down block will do a shield bash... again I'll see how it plays... it's different anyway.

Overall, happy enough, I think I'll love the game. I just can't wait to play it.

See...I think they are over-simplifying to the point of retardation.

Morrowind had lots of weapon skills - Axes, Spears, Short Blades, Long Blades, Blunt Weapons, Ranged Weapons, Hand-to-Hand etc.... meaning you had to train your character for each weapon type they wanted to use... which makes much more role-playing sense. Just because you can swing a long sword, does not mean you would have the training to effectively use a spear.

And now they've boiled it down to just 1 or two handed?

I'll reserve my judgement for when the game comes out... it's all down to how it plays. The new casting system certainly sounds better.

But where have all the proper role-playing games gone?

There's lots of things I like the sound of.

It sounds like alot of my critisisms of the jump between Morrowind and Oblivion have been addressed.

While the skills have been slightly streamlined, it sounds like they could actually be even more in depth. If your average character will make it to Lvl50 - it means they'll have built up roughly 50 skills/perks out of around 200.... so there should be alot of variation between character classes.

And the radial quest system sounds pretty good aswell... if I heard it/interpreted it correctly - it means that the quests are dynamically given to you... so say you've built yourself up with the mages guild - the final quest to go slay the big dragon would be handed to you by the head of the mages guild ... if you had joined the fighters guild, this same quest would be handed out by the head of the fighters guild. and then there's the small side-quest/favours that'll be handed out by people you make friends with.

I was also encouraged when he said that Skyrim is more like Morrowind than Oblivion, in terms of world detail.

There's no doubt... this games going to be aces

The body physics and character/creature animations are using a new havok behaviour engine (http://www.havok.com/index.php?page=havok-behavior).
It's one of the first games to be using it.

The new trailer is amazing. I think this is pretty much the only game that I want this year (besides LBP2, which I already have). I'll definitely be getting it on PC this time. I got Oblivion on the PS3, but console versions just can't compare to PC versions.2011-02-24 19:44:00

It looks fantastic, but I'm a little worried about how it'l perform on PS3. Maybe the new engine is less buggy/laggy than the current one... *fingers crossed*2011-02-26 21:22:00

Both the environments and animations look fantastic! Bit hard to get an idea of gameplay from this trailer, kinda need to see a battle playing out in full. Still it looks incredible. Now what I really want is a short dev narrated walkthrough of a mission or cave/ruins.2011-02-27 17:07:00

Been looking forward to Skyrim for a while now. ^^

There are some changes I read in past month that I didn't like the sound of, like how there's less skills than there was in Oblivion and other things that have have been reduced or removed. Hopefully the new stuff will make up for the reductions.

That radiant system he's talking about is going to be hilarious when the glitches kick in and the alchemist npc's start chopping wood and goes for random strolls into the forest.2011-05-02 21:20:00

I'm hoping the mission structure has more than just "Raid Dungeon X" to "Retrieve Item Y";

"RPG" is about more than just what manner you kill something.

Very nice, I loved how they showed the map...it just put the right kind of perspective into the land. The combat looks very solid, although I would have liked to see more third person action. Truly enjoyed watching the dragon at bleak barrow dive from the top of the building on the player, even though he got walked against the pillar for a little bit. I'm hoping you can down the dragon with just a bow, ranged combat has always been a favorite of mine.2011-06-09 15:01:00

I don't think they should do an online feature, but if they did, it should be like a co-op with a friend, you could meet up on quests you both have, and battle at the same time (though enemies would have to be harder). That would be the best way to do multiplayer.
I saw gameplay (IDK where though) and read about the new engin, story, and everything else in the IGN magazine.
New Features:
Dual Wield w/ Any Combination (spell and shield) (2 spells) (2 weapons) (spell and weapons)
Favorite Combinations of Dual Wield
New Weapons
New Spells
New Characters & Creature Interaction
New Realm (it is seen above Cheydinhal in Oblivion)
Slower Bow Drawback (but more damage for each hit)
Slower Backwards Walk (because it looked ridiculous and was unreal to run the same pace forward and backwards)

No - absolutely not - NO multiplayer thank you!

Why try to shoehorn/crowbar a badly implemented multiplayer aspect into the game - when it can remain KING of the single players?

Games like Elder Scrolls would be rubbish multiplayers - you'd either need to tie the players together so they can;t stray too far apart - defeating the purpose of a massive free-roaming world... or the players would never encounter each other because of how big the world is. - Plus you spend alot of time in menu screens etc, meaning for the most part, your buddy would just be standing there doing nothing while he checks his inventory etc.

Then there's the trust issue - there is a massive scope for griefing players worlds in games like Elder Scrolls... you would need to either limit what anyone joining your game can do (removing any role-playing aspect) - or have to put up with random internet strangers ruining your world for you.

No - multiplayer is not needed - and not wanted.

Keep Elder Scrolls Single Players!

Dont know if its been posted but, long list of information:

?SKYRIM -

Skyrim is set two-hundred years after the events of Oblivion in the eponymous land of Skyrim. The country has erupted into civil war after the assassination of its King. Concurrently, the god Alduin, which takes the form of a massive dragon, arises to destroy the world. The player character is perhaps the last living Dovahkiin (Dragonborn), and must fend off Alduin and save Skyrim from ce...rtain destruction.

The fifth installment of The Elder Scrolls takes place in Skyrim, where peace is threatened by the looming threats of both civil war and the return of the dragons under the main antagonist, the great dragon Alduin (the Nordic equivalent of Akatosh).

Skyrim is the northernmost region of Tamriel, and its geography consists of mountains, snowy tundras, pine forests, rural countrysides and arctic planes. Its architecture and atmosphere is very similar to the town of Bruma in The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion. It is the least populated of all regions in Tamriel, and features more lush forests and grassy areas than Cyrodiil.

New enemies to the series include mountain giants, frost trolls, mammoths, frost spiders, ice wraiths, draugr - a form of undead (Nord) skeletal enemy - and most importantly, dragons. It has been hinted that there may exist friendly dragons, and some which are purely bent on destruction. The player, throughout the game, will find and utilize "Shouts", which are exclamations of draconic language holding great power. By killing dragons and absorbing their souls, the player becomes more powerful. It is likely that these souls will be important to the plot, and unlocking the secret of the dragons' return.

?DRAGONBORN -

The Dragonborn (or Dovahkiin, in Dragon Tongue), is the player character in The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim. At the start of the game, the Dragonborn is a prisoner who is sentenced to death for crossing the border. The Character have no idea that he is Dragonborn, until later in the story.

In the teaser trailer, Esbern mentions the reawakening of the Dragons. Immediately after, he mentions that they fear the one they call "Dovahkiin"-- Dragonborn. Dragonborn, in the Dragon language, is actually a combination of two words - Dova, meaning "Dragon", and "kiin", meaning "child". The hero of Skyrim is a Dragonborn.

?BLEAK FALLS BARROW -

Bleak Falls Barrow is a massive, ancient temple built by the Nords to worship the Dragons. It was confirmed to appeare in The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim. It is the location of the Bleak Falls Barrow quest in which the player must dispatch a group of bandits and recover a stolen dragon claw. Bleak Falls Barrows is where ancient Nords burried their dead. As such the Barrow is infested with Draugr.

There is also a inner sanctum. The inner Sanctum is blocked by a gate which only the dragon claw can open. Inside the Inner Sanctum lies a word wall, And it has been said that a dragon priest lies sleeping in there...

?WORDWALLS (Ancient nordic inscriptions on a wall)

Word Walls are important locations in The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim. When the character finds a Word Wall, they then have the ability to learn Dragon Shouts. During the G4TV E3 Skyrim Presentation, one was shown as existing in Bleak Falls Barrow, where the character learnt Wrath and Storm Call. It should be noted, however, that the character first has to have dragon souls collected before any dragon shouts can be learned.

?DRAGONSHOUTS -

Dragon Shouts (Dovahzaan) are an arcane form of magic that was previously far more prominent in Tamriel, as of Skyrim there are few who retain the ability to perfrom Dragon Shouts. Dragonborn (Dovahkiin) are able to use the language of the dragons to great effect due to their ability to absorb the souls of dragons.[1]Also,a minority of non-player characters also have the ability to use dragon shouts.
There will be 20 dragon shouts in the game and each is performed by the vocalisation of specific words of power. Dragon Shouts are gained by slaying and absorbing the souls of dragons and as more are slain the users ability to learn and use new shouts increases. These shouts have powerful effects and provide the user with a variety of abilities. For instance, one shout sends foes hurtling away from you, another shout instantly teleports you from one spot to another. One powerful shout actually summons a dragon and forces the beast to fight by your side in battle. The player can choose to only vocalise part of a dragon shout which will lower the recharge time of the shout but have a weaker effect. Many shouts can be discovered on the walls of old ruins.

WORDS . NAME . EFFECT

- Yol Toor - Fire Breath - Allows player to breath fire at enemies.
- Fus Roh Dah - ForceBalancePush - Shockwave of Force Energy.
- Iiz Slen - Ice Crystals - Spews a torrent of ice crystals.
- Strun Bah Qo - LightningStorm - Summons a thunderstorm.
- ............ - Slow Time - Slow time with respect to enemies.
-............. -Whirlwind Sprint - Ability to sprint really fast.
-............. -Summon Dragon - Summons a dragon to aid you in combat.
-............ -Teleport Stealthly - teleports player behind an enemy.
-............ - Ice Form - Encases enemies in a block of ice

?RACES TO CHOOSE FROM:

?KAHJIIT
Khajiit hail from the province of Elsweyr. They are an anthropomorphic feline people who are extremely intelligent and agile. Many Khajiit have taken to painting their faces to more resemble their distant cousins, the predatory cats that hunt in the great desert of Elsweyr. Khajiit are expert climbers, able to scale chasm walls with speed unmatched by any other race. They are adept at all arts involving thievery and sleight of hand.

Khajiit can vary in appearance from nearly Elven to large tigers. The most common breed of the several varients of Khajiit are the Suthay-raht. They are intelligent, quick, and agile. Khajiit of all breeds have a weakness for sweets, especially the drug known as Skooma. Many Khajiit disdain weapons in favor of their natural claws. They make excellent thieves due to their natural agility and unmatched acrobatics ability.

?NORD
The Nords are a race of generally tall and fair-haired humans from Skyrim who are known for their incredible resistance to cold and magical frost, and were the first human race to settle Tamriel. Hailing from Atmora, thrive in the cold and are known as a militant people by their neighbors. Joyous in victory, the Northmen are also known to be the heaviest drinkers in Tamriel and, in taverns, they listen to the heroic songs of their bards.

They are enthusiastic warriors, and act as soldiers and mercenaries all over Tamriel. Eager to augment their martial skills beyond the traditional methods of Skyrim, they excel in all manner of warfare. They are also excellent blacksmiths, as well as natural seamen, and have benefited from nautical trade since their first migrations across the sea from Atmora.

?IMPERIAL
The Imperials are natives of the civilized, cosmopolitan province of Cyrodiil. They are well-educated and well-spoken. Though physically less imposing than the other races, the Imperials have proved to be shrewd diplomats and traders. These traits, along with their remarkable skill and training as light infantry, have enabled them to subdue all the other provinces and have erected a monument to peace and prosperity that comprises the Glorious Empire.

They are skilled with heavy armor and in the social classes and tend to favor the warrior classes.

?BRETON
Bretons are the human descendants whom hail from the province of High Rock. According to the Third Pocket Guide to the Empire, they have descended from the people of Nede and Aldmer. The Aldmer thought of making a superior race with their own "Elder", or "Superior", blood, by mating with other races.

They are pure spell weavers and are advanced in all the Arcane arts. While lacking in physical skill, they make up for it in their ability to resist and cast spells that overwhelm most people. They are united in culture and language, but are divided politically.

?HIGH ELF - ALTMER
High Elves, or Altmer, hail from the island province of Summerset Isle. They are tall, gold skinned people with almond shaped eyes. High Elves are extremely intelligent, agile, and willful. They have a natural affinity for the use of magicka, and often make formidable wizards. High Elves are naturally immune to paralyzation. They are adapt at any art involving the arcane.

The Altmer are easily equal to Bretons in sorcerous ability due to their high intelligence, force of will, and agility, but they are more susceptible to spells than Bretons. High Elves have the purest and longest of the Aldmeri bloodline.

?WOOD ELF - BOSMER
Bosmers, or Wood Elves, hail from the province of Valenwood. They are a people of the forests, matching their features to all that is found growing in the green woods of their homeland. They are known to be extremely agile and quick. Their nimbleness serves them best in any art involving thievery. They are also the finest archers in Tamriel.

The Wood Elves are the various barbarian Elven clanfolk of the Western Valenwood forests. In the Empire, they are collectively referred to as Wood Elves, but Bosmer or Tree Sap People is what they call themselves.

?DARK ELF - DUNMER
Dark Elves hail from the province of Morrowind. They are tall, dark skinned people with red, glowing eyes. They are known to be extremely strong and intelligent, and very quick. Their combination of powerful knowledge learned from centuries past and strong and agile physiques make them superior warriors and sorcerers of great and powerful magic. On the battlefield, Dunmer are known for their skill with a balanced use of the sword, the bow and destruction magic. Offensive Spells seem to prove worthy alongside a spellcasting Dunmer on the Field. In character, they are grim, aloof, and reserved, keeping to themselves as much as possible. They consider many to be outlandish folk, and their disregard for imperial abiding reflects their division of unity that schismed so long ago before they were dark elves. They are, as well as distrusting and disdainful of other races as they are to the Dark Elves.

?ORC - ORCISMER
Orsimer or more commony referred to as Orcs, are a race of Mer. Although they were once believed to be related to goblins, they were originally Aldmer. They transformed into Orcs after Boethiah ate the Aldmer champion Trinimac and created Malacath during the Mythic Era.
There are no finer warriors in all of Tamriel and a legion of Orcs seen fully equipped in Orcish armor is a truly terrifying sight to behold.

?REDGUARD
Redguards hail from the province of Hammerfell. They are a stocky, powerful race that are known to be extremely quick and hardy. Legend has it that Redguards are innately more proficient at weapons than any other race. They are excellent in all arts concerning blade and shield, and only darkelves have superior combat skills . They have descended from a long line of warriors and mystic seers.

The most naturally talented warriors in Tamriel, the dark skinned, wiry haired Redguards of Hammerfell seem born to battle, though their pride and fierce independence of spirit makes them more suitable as scouts or skirmishers, or as free ranging heroes and adventurers, than as rank and file soldiers. In addition to their cultural affinities for many weapon and armor styles, Redguards are also blessed with hardy constitutions and quickness of foot.

?ARGONIAN
This reptilian race, well-suited for the treacherous swamps of their homeland, has developed natural immunities to disease and poisons. They can breathe in water and are good at picking locks.

Little is known and less is understood about the reptilian denizens of Black Marsh. Years of defending their borders have made the Argonians experts in guerrilla warfare, and their natural abilities make them equally at home in water and on land. They are well-suited for the treacherous swamps of their homeland, and have developed natural immunities to the diseases and poisons that have doomed many would-be explorers into the region. Their seemingly expressionless faces belie a calm intelligence, and many Argonians are well-versed in the magical arts. Others rely on stealth or steel to survive, and their natural agility makes them adept at either. They are, in general, a reserved people, slow to trust and hard to know.

?CREATURES CONFIRMED:

HORKER:
Horkers are creatures that live in Skyrim. Not much is known about them, except that they MIGHT appear in The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, as evidenced by the HORKER MEAT demonstrated in one of the E3 Gameplay videos. They also appeared in The Elder Scrolls III: Bloodmoon.

FROST ATRONACH:
Frost Atronach are large hulking creatures of the Daedra family that were found as enemies in Morrowind, as summoned creatures and enemies in Oblivion, and possibly both in Skyrim. They are unpredictable individuals, since they can possibly attack a lot of other creatures around you and not just you. They seem to have a low ended strength of attack when compared in ratio to their summoning time.

GIANT:
Giants are a type of large humanoid found in the wilderness of Skyrim and High Rock. They're armed with crudely made clubs and clothe themselves with fur pelts adorned with the skulls of Trolls. Their use of weapons and clothing, coupled with the player's ability to converse with them, suggests they are moderately intelligent. They seem to stand at about 15 to 18 feet tall and make aggressive grunting noises when attacking.

DRAGON PRIEST:
Dragon Priests are high level bosses found near Word Walls. In life they were skilled Nordic mages who worshipped the Dragons and as undead they continue their service, guarding the word walls that would facilitate the learning of Dragon Shouts. They can summon Frost Atronach to aid them in battle and once a Dragon Priest is killed their body turns to ash.

DRAUGR:
The Draugr are undead Nordic warriors who were the original residents of Skyrim. Having engaged in acts of cannibalism during their lifetimes, they are cursed to walk the earth as undead. They have previously appeared in the Morrowind expansion pack Bloodmoon, notably in the barrows of Solstheim. Draugrs have the ability to use Dragon shouts.
-There are several types of confirmed Draugr.
? Draugr Wight
? Draugr Scourge
? Restless Draugr
? Draugr Deathlord

GIANT SPIDER:
Giant Spiders are creatures confirmed to appear in the game.
They are known to spin webs that can ensnare a man while also utilising poison to weaken and kill their prey. If you kill a Giant spider it has been confirmed that you can use their venom on your weapon to poison enemies when you hit them.

ICE WRAITHS:
Ice Wraiths are swift, transparent spirits. Not much known about them yet.

HORSE:
Horses are the primary form of transportation in The Elder Scrolls series.

MAMMOTH:
Mammoths are hulking, large creatures mostly found in the tundra of Skyrim. They are very large beasts, with shaggy coats of fur and long tusks (quite similar to the ancient woolly mammoth of Earth). They are generally found in herds that are tended by Giants. They live with the giants in the giants' camps, and are presumably their main source of food.
When the Mammoths are attacked, their herding Giant appears to get angry and attack your character.

ZOMBIE:
Zombies are undead bodies resurrected by an unnatural spirit. They are found in dark underground places.

SABRE-TOOTHED TIGER:
Nothing has been told about the Sabre-toothed tiger yet.

WOLF:
Wolves make a reappearance in Skyrim. They are seen in the official trailer with the player pointing a bow and arrow at an approaching one and in the G4TV Skyrim demo, where the player eleminates a pack with his sword. They are slightly smaller than their predecessors of The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion, but are still quick to traverse the terrain, and will bite or scratch as an attack. You can contract Rockjoint from them. In the demo they show 2 differnt types of wolves. The brown ones is called a Alpha wolf. The grey ones are called 'Wolf'.

FROST TROLL:
Frost Trolls are creatures that will appear in The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim. Not much is known about them, except for the fact that they are very physically similar to the Trolls in Tamriel.

SKEEVER RAT:
Skeevers are giant rats covered in a lot of fur. They were confirmed in the G4 Demo.

SALMON:
Salmon are a type of fish that are located in Skyrim. It is unknown in what capacity they will appear in The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, however it is known that they will appear in some capacity, as evidenced by the Salmon Meat and Salmon Steak demonstrated in one of the E3 Gameplay videos.

FROST DRAGON:
Frost Dragons are stronger than the Regular dragons. As their name suggests they can Shout ice and frost. They have a whitish color to them. They are seen in both Gametrailers and G4 demos.

JILLS: ( BLACK RACE OF DRAGONS )
Not much is known about the Black Dragons, Jills, except that they will appear in the game.

?UN-CONFIRMED CREATURES, BUT VERY LIKELY TO BE IN THE GAME:

WEREWOLF:
Werewolves are the most common type of lycanthrope found on Tamriel, as they are found in every province, and are said to yield from the mountains of Solstheim. While first appearing in The Elder Scrolls II: Daggerfall, werewolves are featured more heavily in The Elder Scrolls III: Bloodmoon. The Daedric Prince Hircine keeps werewolves as his wards and servants. In Bloodmoon, when infected with Lycanthropy, the player will get strange dreams and be tasked with quests by Hircine. They can also try and find a cure for his/her condition.

VAMPIRE:
Vampires are the result of the disease Porphyric Hemophilia, which can infect most Humans, Elves and even Argonians. An infected person has approximately three days to cure themselves, or they risk becoming a vampire themselves. Vampires on Tamriel exhibit many of the weaknesses assigned to their kind in oral traditions, including an aversion to sunlight. However Vampires in Tamriel aren't effected by garlic, except Vicente Valtieri who is allergic to it.
They often keep wolves in their lairs as pets and guards. Most vampires, however, show a weakness to fire.
They all have the power of invisibility, however, as well as the ability to transmit vampirism, so they can be tricky opponents.
Vampires are undead, generally nocturnal creatures that are said to be of daedric origin. While almost always evil, there have been scattered reports of "friendly" vampires such as Count Hasildor of Skingrad.

?RUMOURED CREATURES:

MUD-CRAB:
Mud Crabs resemble the non-fictional creature crab. They can reside in just about anywhere that has water. They are incredibly easy to kill, but if ignored they can kill you (although this is true, it is very unlikely and even at a very low level they are an easy fight).
(Oblivion Mudcrab Info)

WEREBEARS:
Nothing about them, still just a rumored race, not spotted in any other game.

BEARS:
Bears are ferocious animals that attack you with claws. Bears come in two varieties: brown and black. The Brown Bear is the stronger of the two bears and has incredibly high Health, and are most often found in the mountains near Bruma.
(Oblivon Bear Info)

BOARS:
The boar will snort and make noise as it runs towards you making it easy to detect. This creature is strong against low leveled characters, but a basic block/attack tactic will work well against it. Outrunning the boar is an option if you have a horse. If you do not have a horse, it is easier just to stay and fight. They're fairly rare and few in numbers compared to all other animals.
(Oblivion Boar Info)

OGRES:
Large and powerful beasts with cannibalistic tendencies, Ogres are a daunting opponent in singular combat and a major threat in large numbers. It is best to fight them one at a time, or you may very well be quickly overwhelmed. Despite their strength, they are sluggish and are quite easy to outrun and out-maneuver. Characters with a speed of approximately 60 or higher can easily avoid their powerful fists just by moving backwards in combat.
(Oblivion Ogre Info)

SLAUGHTERFISH:
Slaughterfish are a vicious, predatory, and toothed fish that thrive in large bodies of water, similar to real-world Barracuda or Muskellunge. They can attack a player, but the player has to get close enough for the fish to notice the player. Slaughterfish cannot go in shallow water, so an effective tactic is to draw them out to a shallow area and attack them from a distance. Though they are usually easy to kill, they can pose a serious threat for a new character out for its first swim.
(Oblivion Slaughterfish Info)

LAND DREUGH:
Once during their lifetimes, dreugh undergo a transformation known as karvinasim. For one year, Dreugh are able to live on land
(Oblivion Land Dreugh Info)

?DUAL WIELDING -

( Leading to countless possibilities in combat )

The way it will work is that every single-handed weapon, as well as every spell in the game can be equipped to either your right or left hand.

This means you can use two of the same weapon or two different weapons at the same time. For instance, put a dagger in one hand and a dagger in the other or a mace in one hand and a shortsword in the other for devastating attacks at close quarters.

Or if you are a wizard or magic type, put a shield in your left hand and a powerful fireball spell in your right or if you want, the same spell in each hand and combine them to dramatically increase their power, as Demonstrated by the G4 video. You can even equip two different spells. One thing about it though you can't have a sword and a shield or two different types of weapons equipped and still be able to use a spell like in Oblivion. Dragon Shouts, being verbal attacks, can be used whenever (with a "cooldown" time).

?JOBS -

Woodcutting, Mining, Smithing, Alchemy, Enchantment, Cooking, Farming, Fishing are all confirmed to be in the game. But it has not been confirmed if you are fishing with a fishing rod or if you just kill the fish with your weapon.

?CITIES, TOWNS, SETTLEMENTS.
...
?Windhelm was once the capital of the First Empire, the palace of the Ysgramor dynasty still dominates the center of the Old City. It was sacked during the War of Succession, and again by the Akaviri army of Ada'Soon Dir-Kamal. The Palace of the Kings is one of the few First Empire buildings that remains. Today, Windhelm remains the only sizable city in the otherwise determinedly rural Hold of Eastmarch, and serves as a base for Imperial troops guarding the Dunmeth Pass into Morrowind.
Windhelm is one of the locations that will be appearing in The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim. It is said to feature a magnificent palace, likely the palace of the Ysgramor dynasty.

?Riverwood is a minor settlement encountered early in Skyrim. It is a logging town built against a river.

According to one of the books in Oblivion, "Riverwood is a small outpost for the Imperial Army." It was said that this will be the first settlement you shall see. Also it is the village first sighted in the gameplay trailer.

You can affect the economy of the logging industry in Riverwood if you cut off the work-flow in a possible quest in Skyrim, according to Todd Howard in an interview. This is also where you get the quest to go to Bleak Falls Barrow to retrieve a Golden Claw for a local merchant, a family heirloom which was stolen by bandits.

?Markarth Side was a former city of the ancient Dwemer.

Unlike the Dwemer cities and strongholds located in Morrowind and Hammerfell, the city of Markarth Side was not constructed out of metal, instead it was built of stone, likely due to the abundance of stone found in the mountains of Skyrim. Another theory that could explain why Markarth Side was constructed out of stone is that the Nordic occupiers of Markarth Side had constructed their own city over the ruins of the metallic Dwemer city of the same name, which may thus be underground.See More

...Reiner is our man on the show floor at QuakeCon, and he just passed on a few interesting details from the 45-minute hands-on demo of Skyrim being shown. He was watching several editors play at once, so the details are scattershot. Come back to read his hands-on impressions tomorrow.

Players started out the demo in the character creator, where Reiner glimpsed a few of the 10 races included in the game, including the Nords, three varieties of elves, and Khajiit. The tools available for tweaking the look of your character are much more robust, so like Tiger Woods you should be able to create a rough approximation of your mug if you so choose. This is where you name your character as well, and adhering to Elder Scrolls tradition your character's default name is Prisoner.

Once players exited the character creator, they found themselves with their hands bound wearing tattered rags for clothing, and limping through a gloomy cave. For the sake of the demo, however, the players were freed from their chains and given a healthy selection of gear, including iron armor, several swords, and a bow. On the magic front, players had access to a healing spell and a destructive fireball spell.

Emerging from the cave gave everyone a new breathtaking view of Skyrim's expansive world. The environment immediately outside of the cave is a lush forest. The attention to detail in this region is staggering; both the high canopies and dense foliage make you truly feel like you are in a giant forest. Some players chose to interact with the flora, raiding a beehive for honey combs and picking mushrooms. Others moved straight into combat.

When a strange, imp-looking forest creature approached, the battle began. Judging by the performances of the players, this enemy is not to be underestimated. Many went for the standard Oblivion tactic of shooting fireballs while backpedaling to soften up the oncoming attacker. Unfortunately, the imp creature's closing speed cut off this strategy from the get go. The fights were physical and draining, with several players coming to the brink of defeat only to cast a healing spell at the last minute.

Many chose to play in the standard first-person perspective, but the impressive third-person drew most of Reiner's attention. The characters move much more fluidly than in past Elder Scrolls games, as new animations like naturally reaching for a bow and arrow indicate. Reiner says this may be the first Elder Scrolls game in which he stays in third person.

One person in the demo stumbled upon a solitary cabin amidst the forest, but its tenants ? two charred corpses laid next to a smoldering firepit ? were too dead to offer proper hospitality. Another player found a small, rundown village consisting of a handful of buildings. Though not as bustling as a big city, here you could converse with NPCs. One player asked the blacksmith if he could borrow his tools and did some crafting.

Unfortunately dragons never made an appearance during the demo, but even without the menacing beasts or a dedicated mission to follow, Skyrim shines. This game looks very far along in development, and has the current level of polish is a great sign that this game will be ready to go on November 11.

? Another Piece taken from GAMEINFORMER.COM

After years of waiting, the next installment of The Elder Scrolls finally lands in our hands. Follow Reiner's journey from Riverwood to Whiterun.

As we mentioned in yesterday's quick look at the QuakeCon Skyrim demo, my experience started in the character creator. My Twitter followers wanted to know about the Argonian race, the reptilian race that hails from the Black Marsh swampland. This race looks much like it did in Oblivion and Morrowind, with green scaled skin that sometimes gives off a bluish tint, and yellow, cat-like eyes. For my character, however, I chose the cat-like Khajiit race. The level of customization with this race was impressive. I could alter the eyeliner, change the color of the speckles on the nose, add earrings, and even apply a hairdo on top of my Khajiit's furry dome. As in the previous games, the Khajiit have long, humanoid-like legs and a tail.

My journey started with my character bound in a dreary cave, which Todd Howard said is roughly 30 minutes after the start of the game. When I exited the cave I immediately equipped a destruction spell on one hand and a restoration spell on the other. The button layout is very similar to the previous Elder Scrolls games. The X button sheathes and unsheathes your weapon, the B button gives you access to the menu system, the Y button jumps, the A button interacts, and pressing L3 triggers stealth mode.

While the general controls are familiar, the combat controls have evolved considerably. If you have shield equipped you can bash enemies with it to cause them to stagger, opening them up for attack. If you hold down the attack button with a melee weapon, you trigger a powerful attack that is often accompanied by a cool animation. When I stabbed a wolf with this attack, my character drove the sword deep into the beast and then used the shield as leverage to pry the sword out of the dead animal. You also must actively block oncoming attacks.

The spells also have varying attacks. As I walked down a path toward the village of Riverwood, I spotted two wolves on a nearby hill. When they caught my scent they came charging down the hill and I met them with a powerful flamethrower attack by holding down the spell button. It didn't take long to burn these gorgeous animals, which look much more lifelike than the animals in Oblivion.

Since Riverwood was in the previous Skyrim demos, I didn't spend much time in the village. Instead I headed north alongside a babbling stream that had salmon jumping out of the water and stumbled upon a small farm populated by a cow and hen. I watched the hen for a bit as it walked around aimlessly while clucking, and then stole the egg that was sitting in its nest.

I then made my way into the farmhouse, which only took a couple of seconds to load. Judging from the spread on his table ? goat cheese and Nord mead ? this farmer is living the good life. When I went back outside I met a woman named Sigrid, whose first words to me were "I'm spoken for, don't get any ideas." She kept on farming while telling me about herself and her daughter. After she shared five or so details, she started delivering the canned responses of "Yes?", "Good Afternoon", and "What do you need?"

Leaving Sigrid and the farm behind, I made my way further north to a large murky river. I could have crossed using a bridge, but I decided to test out the swimming instead. The animations are a little rough, but as I swam across to the other bank I was able to grab a few salmon as they passed by. Who needs a fishing rod when you can just grab them with your fist? As I approached the bank I saw a large elk wade into the river. When I moved in too close for the beast's comfort, he made a run for it.

Continuing down the path on the other side of the river, I stumbled across a group of Stormcloak soldiers escorting a prisoner. When I approached the group a hostile soldier blurted out, "Citizen, I'm warning you." Then I was presented three of choices. I could do nothing, free the prisoner, or free the prisoner and give him an item, which I assumed in this case would be a weapon so he could defend himself against his captors. Considering that there were three guards with their swords drawn and I was a mere level one character, I opted to stay out of it. As soon as I moved away, the soldiers returned their weapons to their sheathes.

Heading north again, I ran into another farm. This was a much bigger plot of land, with several gardens. In the middle of this farm a group of three humans were battling a massive giant. Rather than joining the fray, I decided to just sit back and watch. The battle raged back and forth, but eventually the humans prevailed. Afterwards I met Alea the huntress and her sidekicks Farkas and Ria. My first interaction with her was a statement about the battle ? I could say "You don't look like you need any help," or "I tried to help." When I chose the flattering option, she thanked me and explained that her band was a part of the Shield-Brothers. I was then prompted to inquire about joining the group or wryly responding "Sounds like a waste of time." Alea told me that if I wanted to join the group I would have to ask the leader of the Companions.

After going our separate ways, I ventured north again, picking items like lavender and tundra cotton on my way toward Whiterun, a large walled city on the hill. Before I walked up the hill, I stopped by a stable and talked to the stable-hilt named Skulva. I asked to buy a horse, he replied that his horse was seven years old and in fine health. His asking price? One thousand gold. Rather than pay the outrageous fee, I jumped on the horse and galloped up the hill to the city with Skulva cursing and running after me. Since there were no guards in the vicinity, I got off scot-free.

When I approached the gates of the city, the guard told me, "the city is closed with the dragons about." From here I had a few options to try and get into the city. I could offer him news about the dragon attack at Helgen, bribe him with 56 gold, or intimidate by asking him to stand aside. I chose to pay him off, and soon I was behind the comforts of the city wall.

The loading takes a bit longer when entering a big city like Whiterun, but as the screen loads you're given gameplay tips, bits of lore, and can even tinker with a three-dimensional object on the screen. Once the city loaded, I took a brief tour. Whiterun looks to be a wealthy city in good shape ? the beautifully designed A-frame homes have nice brickwork and look pristine. A large courtyard I stumbled upon served as home to a giant tree and a gazebo. A large outdoor market offered several opportunities to buy or trade gear, and there was plenty of stuff laying around for those who prefer five-finger discounts. The city guards, who have black rams on their shields, would prefer you didn't.

I made my way into a beautiful manor, where all walks of life were sitting around eating and drinking. One guy was eating a large sweet-roll that looked like it could put a man out of commission with a food coma. I spoke to a musician named Mikael, who played a unique stringed instrument. After conversing, he switched to a wooden flute. In the back of the manor I came across a ledger. When opening it up I was busted by the citizens and apprehended by the city watch. To avoid imprisonment I paid a 44 gold fine.

With only a few minutes left before the demo concluded, I decided to leave the city to head toward a place called Dawnstar. Night had fallen, and the world took on a new personality with new creatures like a torchbug and luna moths that I collected. Stumbling upon Lorieus Farm, I walked in the home to find two people sleeping.

Overall, Skyrim played great. The framerate was fluid, the combat satisfying, and the world beckons more exploration. After the demo concluded, I chatted with Todd Howard and he confirmed that the Dark Brotherhood is returning in Skyrim. As if we needed another reason to be excited about this game.

?SKYRIM FAN INTERVIEW -

Todd Howard, Game Director
Bruce Nesmith, Lead Designer
Matt Carofano, Lead Artist

They answer some questions.

1) Will the character be able to change into certain creature?

Todd: We?ve done various things like that in our previous games, and it's something that we probably won?t be talking about specifically on this one. Don?t read anything into that, we just prefer to not discuss this one. We?d like to leave that an open question until the game is out.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
2) What sorts of cosmetic options, like beards, tattoos, or body proportions, are available? Can we edit them later in the game?

Matt:
There is large amount of customization available for each race. You can choose from multiple hair styles, beards, scars, and face paint. Each race and gender has a light and heavy build and you can pick any level in between. We?ve completely redone our facial system, and we?re really excited to show off the results.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
3) Is armor handled like in Oblivion (with each body part being welded together) or in Morrowind (with each body part separate)? Will you be able to wear both clothes and armor at the same time?

Matt: The armor system is very similar to Oblivion?s. The main difference is that the upper and lower body armors, the cuirass and greaves, have been combined into one piece. This helps create armor styles that have the look we needed for Skyrim. In most of the Nordic designs we created, the upper armor would completely cover the lower armor, making it unnecessary. We get much better visual results combining those pieces, and it renders a lot faster too, so we can put more people on screen, so that was an easy tradeoff for us. We can also make a lot more armors now, so the number and variation types are more than we?ve ever had.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
4) Are the main and faction quests branching or linear? What about side quests?

Bruce: We?ve focused on telling one story well. There are decision points in all the quest lines that can change things, but overall it's a single story. Because the side quests are smaller stories, they are more likely to have major branches. For example, you can decide to save or betray someone, which changes the whole end of the quest. Overall the quest structure in Skyrim is closer to Oblivion than Fallout 3, in that there are many more quests, but they have fewer branches.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
5) Are loot and quest rewards level scaled, like in Oblivion? Will there be any powerful un-scaled items?

Bruce: We?re handling leveling stuff similar to how we did in Fallout 3, but with a few new twists that we hope players won?t even notice. The enemies and loot are based on the ?encounter zone? you?re in, so it could be higher or lower level than your current level. We do have a new concept of epic or ?special? loot that you can randomly find in many cases, regardless of the zone, and you will still get better stuff in the better zones with your level higher. Same goes for quest rewards. We try to make them appropriate for what you did. Sometimes that is random, sometimes that is a set item. There?s a lot of specific stuff that is very powerful, like the Daedric artifacts.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
6) Will items present in Morrowind but not in Oblivion, such as spears, medium armor, and mark/recall spells, be making a return?

Todd: They are not in Skyrim for the same reasons we didn?t include them in Oblivion. I?ll address each one. First spears, the truth is we?d love to do them, but it becomes a priority and development time thing for us. We feel it's better to spend our time right now making sure the gameplay for the other play styles is really solid. That includes sword, sword and shield, two-handed weapons, and bows. You can also add magic to that list. Getting those all working well together, while feeling different, is our priority.

As far as medium armor, that?s not a time or polish thing, it's a design choice to focus on two armor types and making sure those feel different and the player appreciates them. We try to make your character move and feel different between light and heavy and having a 3rd one in the middle just muddies it up in how it plays, as well as visually. And even now, we still have to tweak those two armor types so they feel different, while remaining fun. Every time we slow down heavy armor more, it feels bad, but it's the main way of balancing it. We?ve added other ways of balancing it that feel right?like different stamina drain rates when sprinting and such.

Mark and recall is one where it's a lot of fun, but like levitation, was removed so we could design better gameplay spaces and scenarios. We were really limited in Morrowind because the player could recall or levitate out of many situations and break them. There was a lot of good gameplay and level design work that we just couldn?t do and now we can. Back then it seemed like many good ideas we had were shot down when another designer would say ?oh yeah, I just levitate or recall away.? So we got rid of them.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
7) Will we be able to have relationships with the NPCs, romantic or otherwise?

Bruce: Absolutely! You make friends with people by doing things for them. Friends in the game will treat you differently. Some of them will even agree to go with you into dungeons and on adventures. You can even get married. If you own a house, your spouse will move in with you.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
8) Are there any new armor/weapon materials unique to Skyrim?

Matt: One of the most prized and rarest sets of armor is made from dragons. It can be forged in both a light and heavy variant. You?ll see a return of many armors from previous games, such as leather and steel, however these have been redesigned in the Nordic style.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
9) Can we have some specifics about the PC version of the game? How will it's UI be different? Will there be a 64-bit executable?

Todd: 64-bit specific exe? Not at this time. As far as UI, it visually looks the same across the platforms, but the controls are entirely different. There?s also a lot of ?power user? stuff we do with the keyboard from how favorites work, to quick saves, and more that is similar to what we?ve done before in that area. We?re packing a lot of info on the screen and the whole interface is much less ?look at giant fonts!? than, say, Oblivion. The PC version also gets higher res textures, larger render modes, and a bunch of other effects you can scale up if your machine is a beast. Last but most important, is the Creation Kit we?ll be releasing for the PC. Modding the game and making it your own is very important to us and our fans, so we?re going to keep doing whatever we can in that area.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
10) How will enchanting work in Skyrim? Will we have to constantly refill our enchantments with soul gems like we did in Oblivion, or will it be more like Morrowind in which the weapons recovered after a certain resting period?

Bruce: The method in Oblivion worked really well, so we kept it. Magic weapons use charges and have to be refilled with soul gems. Magic armor is always on and doesn?t need to be recharged. Soul gems and their lore and usage are a staple of the Elder Scrolls.

We have revamped the enchanting system though. Enchanting is now a skill. The better your skill and perks, the better you are at creating enchanted items. You?ll be able to find enchanting stations all over the world, which will make it much more accessible.

There are some changes from Oblivion, including the effects you can use when creating items, as well as how you learn effects. You now learn enchanting effects by ?breaking down? a magic item you find, as opposed to them coming from spells you know. This allows us to separate enchanting from the other magical skills better.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
11) What are the differences between the races? I guess they'll have different skill bonuses, but will they also start with different perks or have different "hard-coded" attributes, such as different running speeds or maximum encumbrance, etc.?

Todd: They each start with some skills that are higher by default, but those aren?t hard to overcome with another race in a short time. They also have different starting spells and each has its own passive abilities, like before, as well as powers, like before. So Khajiit can see in the dark, Orcs have a berserk power, Redguards have Adrenaline Rush, and so forth. They work differently in the new system, but the flavor is the same. We kept all the racial movement speeds the same, that?s now a factor of what you?re wearing and have equipped. And starting max encumbrance is the same and is based on your Stamina attribute.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
12) Is there any game content (story, quests) that might be locked for a character based on race/faction/politics allegiances/morality/choices? Or one can experience all the content in one single play?

Todd: We do have some stuff that gets locked out based on decisions you make. It's wherever it felt natural. It wasn?t a goal that you could or couldn?t play everything with one character. The game?s honestly so big that we don't think about it much.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
13) To what extent will our racial / gender selection at the start of the game will affecting our gameplay? Are there relationships affected by these choices?

Bruce: Your race is very important. It's more than just how you look. Each race has a bias toward certain types of characters. If you want play a wizard, it will be easier with a High Elf or a Breton. If you want to play a warrior, it will be easier with a Nord or a Redguard. However, just like in Oblivion, we don't force you to follow that bias. If you want to be a Nord wizard, that?s completely viable.

Gender does not change any initial skills or abilities. There is nothing that men do better than women or vice versa in the game. Other characters will recognize your gender and address you properly. Some may have prejudices for or against a particular gender as a part of their character, but it won?t change what you can or can?t do.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
14) Do you plan to include non lethal ways of defeating opponents??

Todd: Depends on what you mean by ?defeat?. We have various stealthy ways of getting past people, and the various poisons and spells allow you to basically render enemies harmless to you, whether that is casting a calm or fear spell, knocking them down, or something else.

Oh, and we now have tavern brawls that are non-lethal! I love those.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
15) Will boss fights involve interesting mechanics involved as opposed to just more health and hits harder?

Todd: We have many new combat behaviors in our AI that makes fights with certain enemies very dynamic and interesting. It matters what the enemy can do. Dragons, for example, can do lot of things from multiple shouts, bombing runs, picking guys up, and more. An enemy that has a sword and shield, a bow, magic spells, and potions will use all of those things, and those fights are the most interesting. But we also design some combat encounters where the player simply may get mobbed by more simple enemies, and those have a different pace and strategy.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
16) Do companions have skill and perk trees we can train?

Bruce: No, you only manage your own. Though companions often have certain perks so they behave different or better.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
17) Is the culture in Skyrim strictly Nordic, or are there places (like Cheydinhal in Cyrodiil) that show influence from other cultures nearby, like architecture, religion, etc?

Matt: While there are pockets of other races in the game, we focused on the Nordic culture and their regional differences. The architecture between cities is dramatically different and reflects how the Nords live in that area.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
18) So, the dragons are big and powerful. Did you include some destructible environment so they could leave marks and scars everywhere they attack? Can they demolish buildings, break trees, start avalanches, burn houses, things like this that emphasize their power?

Todd: They do leave marks and scars everywhere, but as far as destroying buildings and such, it's rare. It does happen, but not a lot. Systemically destroying our spaces is something we have not found a good way to handle yet, because it's so dynamic. We?re dealing with places that we have NPCs living, and providing quests and other game services. It's something we avoid in every game unless we can specifically wipe it off the map, like Megaton.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
19) Will there be any difference between the animation sets of male and female as well as human-like and 'beast' characters?

Matt: The animation system is completely new and dramatically improved. You will notice huge difference from previous games. There are differences between male and female animations, and even beast races have some specific animations.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
20) Will any sort of karma system be incorporated like there was in Fallout, or will it be the Fame/Infamy system of Oblivion?

Bruce: We don't provide a numeric score that you can track, but the game knows if you?ve been naughty or nice. We felt that a number really didn?t do your fame justice. Characters in the world will acknowledge the specific things you have done rather than just a generalized reputation. If you are a criminal, they?ll know that too. But if you pay your debt to society, all is forgiven.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
21) Will crafting (weapons, armor) be effected by the tools you use as well as the ingredients used in the crafting? Such as the hammers and clippers, mastery level of the weapons and your level? Basically, will I be able to produce a more powerful, or even unique, weapon if I use a master hammer or clipper as opposed to novice?

Bruce: The blacksmith?s shop includes a forge, a grindstone, and a smithing bench. You can improve your weapons at the grindstone. The higher your skill, the more you can improve them, and the more damage they?ll do. Same thing for armor with the smithing bench, only the armor rating gets better. The forge is actually used to create new weapons and armor from raw materials.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
22) Will your character have a voice? So that you can hear yourself having a conversation with other people?

Todd: You do have a voice, but you only hear it in grunts and shouts. So we have recorded for each race and sex you can play, all the different combat grunts, as well as the dragon language shouts.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
23) Obviously every character is "Dragonborn", but not every character will be playing the same way. The question is: Will dragon shouts support all types of characters? Are there long ranged shouts? Some kind of stealthy "shout"?

Todd: Yes, the shouts support all character types. We?re not ready to talk about the other shouts yet, but soon enough.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
24) Are there going to be places where you can use nature to your advantage? Like make a trap out of a falling tree or climb a tree to stealth attack an enemy?

Todd: Yes and no. You can?t make things, but our environment is so dense, you?re almost always using the natural terrain to get an advantage, especially with stealth.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
25) Will you be able to carry on after the main story?

Todd: Yes, absolutely.

?AUSGAMERS INTERVIEW -

AusGamers was given special access to the main squeeze at Bethesda Game Studios, Mr Todd Howard, to talk all things The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim. Read on for what he has to say about dragons, the mod community, PC and consoles, as well as not locking you out of the game when it ends...

AusGamers: Ladies and gents welcome back to AusGamers. You?re here with Stephen Farrelly and I have a very special guest with me today - Mr Todd Howard from Bethesda Game Studios; thanks to the fine folk at Bethesda for organising this for us.

Todd, obviously [Skyrim is the] buzz of the show -- I saw it in Utah [prior Bethesda event]. Two dragons at the end this time? Was that put in this demo specifically or was that a procedural thing? Because you were talking about that in Utah.

Todd Howard: We did... for this demo we have scripted their arrivals to make sure that we?re getting dragons on the screen and after that they do their own thing. So we did want to show another type of dragon -- the frost dragon -- so we set it up where once you killed one, the other one would come in (sometimes they overlap a little bit). But we wanted to show that because there are a lot of new Shout powers we wanted to show here at E3 -- absorbing the soul and doing all that.

AusGamers: Is there only those two dragon archetypes?

Todd: No, there are more. We?re not talking about that yet, but there are other ones. I don't want to say the exact number -- we?re still messing with it. There aren?t a lot, but there are more.

AusGamers: Now let?s step it back a bit, I want to talk a bit about Creation Engine. You guys have been demoing the game on Xbox 360, is there any particular reason why you haven?t shown the PC version? Because clearly that would be the higher end.

Todd: Yeah it does, obviously the PC version looks better. It has higher textures, it can run much higher resolution and a lot more graphic features. We tend to show it on 360 so that it's a good baseline for people to look at. So when they then see the PC version it's going to go up. We?d rather do that than have people see the 360 later and it takes a step down.

We?re really excited with how it looks on the 360 and the PS3. So we do author the art the same for all the platforms, it's just that they render it differently. Also for things like this [tradeshows] -- I don't know if people realise -- but as a game developer, the 360 is just much easier to show it on, from getting it started, to showing it, to controlling it, it's just much easier to demo on logistically.

AusGamers: Okay, now going from Gamebryo to Creation, what was the outset goal for you guys, in terms of the features that you wanted and the stuff that you didn?t want anymore -- the kind of hang-ups that you had. What was the process going forward?

Todd: Well we came off of Fallout 3 and we?re always moving our own technology forward. Whether that?s using a piece of middleware or doing AI or things like that. We had a pretty big list of what we felt the 360, the PS3 and the high-end PCs could do, and it wasn?t like we said ?we?re going to re-write the engine?; we just sort of started with ?okay, let?s do this to the graphics; let?s do this to the gameplay?.

We started hitting that hard right after Fallout 3, so I?d say after the course of the next year and a half it turns out we?d re-written all of this -- look how it looks; we?re not using this anymore; we?re not using that anymore. So that?s when we actually decided to brand it; we should call it something of our own.

But it wasn?t from the get go ?we?re going to re-write the whole engine?. It was a priority list and we ended up re-writing more than we thought we were gonna, but it worked out.

AusGamers: You always support the mod community as well and I know that this is going to have mod tools out of the box.

Todd: For download, not in the box.

AusGamers: Right okay, yeah.

Todd: In case people look in their box and they?re like ?what??.

AusGamers: Obviously the PC community really enjoys that a lot, but have you thought about giving that level of access to the consoles?

Todd: I have yeah. I think our PC mod community is one of the things that is great about our games. We?ve always supported it and we want to continue to do it. But a lot of our audience is on the consoles so they?re not experiencing that. So we have talked to Microsoft and Sony; ?how do we do this??.

The good news is that those things have started to happen with games like Forza 3 and sharing all your car stuff or Rock Band?s a really good example, where you can make your own tracks where you?re authoring them somewhere else then you?re uploading them to the 360.

There are still a lot of issues to solve with... because these aren?t instances like a song or a car you know, you could download a mod that destroys your game and we can?t have that. So we?re still... we have not solved -- even on paper yet -- how to handle security; how do we handle not messing up your saved games and things like that.

So it's not going to be solved for the game?s release, but it's something that we?re going to continue to look at because we think that it's an awesome part of the game that the majority of our audience isn?t seeing.

I went and picked up the PS3 5 year anniversary (5 years... Jeez) of Oblivion yesterday... I haven't played it since probably 2007 or 08 on my Xbox, and I have to say, looking back, it is truly one of the greatest games of all time. Fact.

Can't wait to see if Skyrim gives me this awe effect. If it lives up to the name that Oblivion has given the series.

I watched that 40 minute gameplay video yesterday and man November can't come fast enough. I'm so getting the C.E. version too. I spent a year and a half playing Oblivion and loving every second of it, can't wait to play Skyrim now!2011-08-09 16:37:00

hour long playthrough "Written" preview from Kotaku... man Morgana you said it November truly, "Can't come soon enough"

If your too lazy to click the link...

An Hour with Skyrim. It's Amazing.
I mean no disrespect when I say this: I couldn't give a dragon's *** about the story in Skyrim. It may well be wonderful, but as the fifth installment in The Elder Scrolls series?none of which I've played for more than an hour or two at most?I've never had any opportunity to understand, let alone grow to love, the story.

But after about an hour of playing through the latest build of Skyrim on an Xbox 360, I'm happy to report that I think this will be the first Elder Scrolls game I actually may play through to the end.
Blame Fallout 3. While the first-person RPG interface of Morrowind and Oblivion always felt clunky, maybe even punitive, Fallout showed me the appeal of Bethesda's open world game design. Skyrim isn't an RPG in the classic sense?it's a sword-and-sorcery simulation.

I'll probably play Skyrim on PC?I'm a mouse and keyboard person, given my druthers?but I'm glad I had the opportunity to play it on a console, as it showed off how far Bethesda has come in their ability to create an interface that is both deep, instantly accessible, and yet not overwhelming. The last Elder Scrolls game I tried to play, Morrowind, was my first Bethesda console game; I immediately returned it and bought it for PC. I hated the feeling of playing such a detailed FPS on a console.

But as I sat down with the 360 version in Dallas last week, I didn't feel any sense of trepidation or perceived loss. Within minutes, I was smashing wolves in the face with a small iron hand axe with one hand and setting them on fire with the other.

Enough about the interface, though?how about those graphics? Even on the aging Xbox 360, I was shocked to see how lovely the game is in action. Certainly not as pretty as its screen shots?something about the engine still looks rough around the edges in a literal, visual sense?but taken as a whole the landscapes were beautiful and varied, seamlessly transitioning from craggy mountain forests to grassy river bottoms, from thatch roof villages to icy mountain passes. Get on a high perch and you can see for miles.

With limited time, I didn't mess around with the famously intricate character creator for long. I rolled up a healthy, ugly orc and threw myself into the world. For the demo our characters came pre-encumbered with armor, weapons, and some magical abilities. I wanted to get a taste of a little bit of everything, so I bound a flame spell to my orc's left hand (controlled with the left trigger) and a one-handed axe to his right (right trigger).

Full size
The combination proved to be more than enough to immolate a few wolves as I left the small cave from which I started out, heading down the mountainside as fast as I my green legs could carry me. (I wanted to see as many environments in my hour as possible.)

While not every monster or NPC in Skyrim is inherently aggressive, I presumed anyone outside of a town was fair game for my two-fisted flame/axe combo. I soon learned that I could shoot the ground in front of an oncoming attacker with my flame spell, which would set anyone alight who passed through it. A quick thunk with my axe usually took them down, especially when I held down the right trigger to enable an extra strong melee smack.

Soon I found a cave guarded by a blonde Nordish bandit. (Lament the poor bandits of Skyrim. I must have murdered a score of them in their roosts.) Flame. Axe. Murder. Sifting through the corpse for loot is a simple process. And like previous Bethesda games, Skyrim helpfully gives you an indication if a corpse or container is empty, saving you the trouble of riffling through nothing.

Down into the cave I went, which loaded up an instanced level of generic fantasy mine dungeon. It only took me about ten minutes to travel through the entire mine, luring chatty bandits into the path of my flame, then carving them a double-wide nostril with my little axe. I had some bigger axes and swords in my pack, as well, but using them meant sacrificing my flame spell, and two primary attacks were already approaching tedium. There was no way I was going to just one.

Luckily, Skyrim's interface allows a "favorites" system that binds items, magic, and weapons to a quickly accessed menu that lets you change up your gear without going into the only-slightly-more-involved regular inventory system. With a little bit of time, I think I could have set up a rhythm that would let me use my bow and arrows, then switch back to my axe and flame combo when enemies came closer.

There wasn't much in the way of treasure in the mine, so I left via another entrance and tromped down the mountain to a small fishing village, name of Riverwood. There I met a blacksmith who was awfully welcoming?"Sure, you can use my forge, orc stranger!"?and spoke a gentleman about a rival, elven suitor who was wooing his paramour. The lover suggested I deliver a nasty fake letter to his object of affection, signed with the name of his elven competition. A **** move, for sure (and one you can choose to give a twist, by alerting the innocent elf to the plot), but also a testament to the progressive race relations of Skyrim's culture. (If you think I'm poking fun, I'm not. There's something distinct about the way The Elder Scrolls series seems to ignore the issue of race that feels at once mature and perhaps over idealized.)

Even better, the fix to one of my (and everyone's) big irks from Oblivion?the sameness of the voice acting?was made apparent in town. There were 14 different voice actors for all the characters in Oblivion; in Skyrim, there are 70.

I had no time for matchmaking, though, as there were faces that had not yet felt my axe. (And I didn't have it in my heart to kill the townspeople or their adorable goats.) So across the river and up a mountain path I went, stopping along the way in a ruined watchtower to clear it of bandits. I felt a little bad, cooking those bandits in a gout of eldritch flame, but in fairness they looked pretty cold and lonely up there, so I was probably doing them a favor. Plus they were guarding a chest at the top of that broken outpost and no court in any fantasy realm would convict a man of murder-for-treasure-chest.

The gold from the chest safely in my bottomless nega-pockets, I turned from the top of the tower to descend and was stopped in my tracks. Not by a bandit or a roaring monster, but by the view. Below me spread the river valley, Riverwood, and the mountainside from which I had originally been shoved into the world. Gorgeous, alive, and only a little bit out-of-proportion, in that in a real fantasy world I wouldn't expect so many bandits and mines and gothic barrow temples to be squished into a couple of square miles of terrain. But still, wow. And on a 360, no less.

Oh, did I not mention the barrow temple? It was at the top of the mountain path and my final destination. I put my axe through the heads of some human guards and pressed open the tall oak doors. (I presume they were oak. Barrow doors are nearly always oak.)

It was inside this block-and-buttress temple that I made a new best friend. He lived inside a magical staff that when fired would allow him to come out and eat my enemies' faces clean off. (Well, in my imagination at least; in-game he mostly just chomped at where their balls would be.) My friend was a spectral, glowing wolf and I loved him?and for 60 seconds at a time, before he popped out of existence in a flash of blue light, he loved me.

Into the barrow temple we went, until we happened upon a room upholstered with meter-thick spider's web. I had to hack my way through it to get in, even though I knew that there was going to be either 1) a gaggle of dog-sized spiders, or 2) one giant spider inside.

It was number two.

It took a bit of juggling to take the Volkswagen-sized spider down: wield the magic staff to let my wolf out to play; switch to axe and flame and take a few hacks; pause to drink a potion or two when she got in some good licks. But within a minute, down she went, and I was rewarded not with good treasure but mostly with the whines of a man who was trapped in her web.

He demanded I let him down so he could give me the Golden Claw of Some Such, which I gathered was a mission-specific item, as the game awarded me some sort of check-off on my quest list when I burnt the guy to a crisp when he tried to run away after I'd been totally nice and cut him free.

It would have been nice to have another friend, though, because instead of being whisked out of the barrow temple after defeating the giant spider, I instead had to thread my way through a crypt filled with dead warriors, some of whom would occasionally get up and try to eat me. I limped along well enough (especially because I had a healing spell that I'd only just realized I had), using my wolf to draw their attacks?including missile spells!?and then giving them the ol' one-two.

I nearly died in one puzzle room, where instead of realizing that the reason I was triggering arrows to spree from tiny murder holes every time I made a pulled a lever was that I hadn't turned the appropriate runes in place. I lost a lot of health from that bit of stupidity.

The zombies finally got the best of me, but no big whoop: my demo was pretty much over anyway. (I'll never forget you blue glow-wolf. May we meet again.)

* * *
In some ways, I almost wish Skyrim didn't have a plot?I'd feel less guilty ignoring it. But for someone who couldn't deal with how finicky the previous games could feel, I'm legitimately excited to plow into the full game. I'll treat it like the sword-and-sorcery simulator that it is. And if it just so happens to suck me into the plot, as well, all the better.

The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim is hitting the street on November 11th. I think we're all in for a treat.

Not "Fact" actually - Morrowind was a far superior RPG - even if it did have worse graphics/combat.

It had a better story, more diverse environments - a more "open" world - in that you could fly around anywhere you wanted - a much more comprehensive spell creation/enchantment system. In short - better in nearly all of the important aspects other than flashy graphics.

You can tell that Morrowind is the closest to what the 15 year old Todd Howard was envisioning in his bedroom - as he even said himself that by Oblivion it was a case of "Get Quest Y - Kill Monster Y - Hand in Quest Y"; In Morrowind, most quests had multiple endings dependant on your character.
I think he's getting bored with it.

Oblivion was a Nerfed version of Morrowind to appeal to the casual/Mass audience.

I never said Morrowind was bad. I agree that it is a great game, I played it on PC. I was just saying that Oblivion is great also. Me saying Oblivion is great doesn't mean everything else in the world isn't. I also love LBP, and Half-Life as picks for greatest game of all time. But there cannot be ONE greatest game of all time... Tastes, opinions etc. get in the way of that

Also, I would like to note that an important, integral part of an RPG, for me, is a world that looks realistic, and is immersive. It draws you in better with "flashy graphics" and whatnot. I admit, Oblivion has not aged gracefully either, what with horrible popup, and obvious over usage of sprites, blah blah blah.

TL;DR- Morrowind is great, Oblivion is great, Bender is great.

Just found TWO HUNDRED pics of Skyrim races floating about on the interwebs. Post the character (or as close as you can get) you'll create for your first play-through. I was originally going to play as a female Khajiit, but now my cat's been missing so long I think I'll create a male Khajiit to honour him with or somethin', seeing as he's a bengal which looks like a dark haired cheetah their won't be any foreseeable design problems with getting the design close enough to his real markings. Heeeeeeere's the link, enjoy.

"Just released"?

Only one possible explanation.
TIME TRAVELER

So I was going to play an Orc, then decided to be a Khajiit, but now I have to be an Orc.
According to the Skyrim forums, in Lord of Souls, Redguards and Bretons invaded Orsimer, driving the Orcs out. I liked Redguards and Bretons too. But now, they must die. FOR ORSIMER!

Oh yes - Max Von Sydow isn't it?

You should know that what I posted is only my assumption. It's a game set in ancient nordic LOTR land and I'm just assuming there will be some kind of king SOMEWHERE! So I haven't spoiled anything. As far as characters being killed off I'm guessing plenty will die either by my hand or by others during quests or whatever. I don't know anything so I haven't spoiled anything. If I knew you were able to fly a dragon I wouldn't post it. I'm going to take a leak now. SPOILER!!! IT'S YELLOW!2011-11-06 19:30:00

I've got it already! The Gamemania stores here in Belgium somehow decided to not wait for launch day (the store clerk said it was because they feared MW3's launch was going to interfere with the sales). Best birthday ever!

I heard the consoles were on low but I think it's much more likely they're on medium (which Oblivion was). Either way, PC version will look a bit better and have mods, so going with that is a good choice!

I caught the TV commercial for this last night and it gave me goosebumps. Looks amazing!

I spent a year and a half playing Oblivion, but this one is going to be even more emmersive. Friday can't come fast enough!

I don't doubt it will look better on PC but from what I've played the game looks amazing in the PS3 as well. Details everywhere. What I didn't like with Oblivion's visuals was that the landscapes were epic but up close the environment was bland, populated with mechanical NPC's. That flaw seems to have been mended. Everything looks awesome up close (streams of water and the firebreath of a dragon surprised me because of how good they look).

Character animations got a serious improvement since Oblivion and Fallout. At the beggining there's a public execution of prisoners and I even got goosebumbs when I saw a headsman chopping the head off an unfortunate guy. The NPC's don't look like robots anymore. And watching ourselves in 3rd person isn't a torture like in Fallout and Oblivion. Our character movement is much more organic. In a little village I see NPC's sharpening weapons, carrying timber and preparing pelts on tanning racks. In 3rd person view we can now rotate the camera without rotating the character with it. I'll be able to contemplate that face paint and badass scars during the game! (seriously, once you have it check the available facial scars. They're awesome)
Can it be? Has Bethesda finnaly learnt about that little thing we called immersion?

Nitpicks: A few details in the environment pop in as we get close. A few framerate drops, but nothing we can't handle.

Edit: Also, the map that comes with the pre-orders and early copies of the game is great. Freaking big:
http://i635.photobucket.com/albums/uu78/SnipySev/Picture0004.jpg
It has these details old papers have making it look antique, and it's made of some kind of "rough" paper, it almost like canvas. It feels like parchment when you touch it (as long as you disregard the other side that's blank and the tiny letters saying "Zenimax Inc, etc")

Oh my god... Spellcasting is... AWESOME! It's like Bioshock's plasmids but we can use it much more freely, dual wield spells, and we can just keep pushing the button for as long as we want the effect to last.

On one hand, equip Flames which will fire napalm out of your palm. On the other, equip Sparks, a spell you learn from a book you find early in the game and that makes you shoot lightning Emperor Palpatine-style (I guess we have the Flames spell from the start?). Find an enemy, push the controls for both spells down as long as your magicka allows, watch enemy get roasted and electrocuted at the same time. Weapons? Screw those

Is there an option to invert the x and y axis for playing in 3rd person? It looks like this one will actually be playable in 3rd person. I'll get this for the PS3 in a month or so after I've had my fill of Dark Souls.2011-11-08 18:16:00

@fullofwin, You can invert the Y axis but not the X axis.

I have completed the dungeon that appeared on the E3 demo, Bleak Falls Barrow. Much more fun than exploring the generic dungeons in Oblivion. There's waterfalls, little steams of water, traps, pits, puddles of oil we can lit up with fire, even some simple puzzles. I'm amazed. Now to explore the highlands in the dark and find my way back -_-'

I'm getting too old to put up with controls my brain thinks are backwards. I really don't understand the design decision that can justify adding an option to invert y without also adding the option to invert x?!?

Inverting y would be cool if I could play as a dragon and swoop around the entire game, that's flight controls, lol!

There's one dragon skeleton in my game world already!
Oh, and there'll be a massive famine in Whiterun very soon. All the cabbage, leek, potato and wheat crops around the city got harvested and robbed by a mysterious armored man wielding a flame spell and a battleaxe. What shocking vandalism! In completely unrelated news, the keeper of the "Bannered Mare" in just bought a massive stock of cabbages, leeks, potatoes and wheat from a mysterious armored man

Hell, the mission after slaying our first dragon is EPIC.

A secluded order of monks isolated on the peak of the highest mountain in the game, trained in the way of the dragon's voice, call me with their mighty shouts (I heard a thunderous "DOVAHKIIN" when I was returning to a city miles away after I had slain the dragon). Then I had to answer their summon, going on a pilgrimage to the mountain and climbing the 7.000 steps to its peak. Now I'm training with the monks to learn how to use my dragon shouts.

AWESOME.

Agreed. There are some hiccups when there's too much stuff happening, but it's never something serious. On average it's not on a worse level than the drops that happen in most console games.

Yeah, the pickaxe is for the mining. I also carry a wood axe to cut firewood and get some money out of it, but I rarely use it so I'll ditch it whenever I buy a house in Whiterun.

Oh, and sometimes you'll get on an unarmed brawl with someone. Make sure you don't overdo the punching. There's a point when the character with which you are fighting will collapse to the ground and give up, the fight's over by then. If you continue past that point it's a crime.
And speaking of crime, if you're being pursued by guards that are trying to kill you, sheathe your weapons with square to surrender and get the option to solve things in a non-violent manner. I found that sometimes you need to unsheathe and sheathe your weapons if they're beating you while you are already unarmed.

Time is nigh, I must fly,
Venture forth on my quest.

Goodbye Ma, goodbye Pa
And goodbye Girlfriend's breasts.

I'll be off Azeroth, catch you later Hyrule.
I'll be gone Albion, I'm no longer your fool.

Other crap filled the gap
While I waited to begin...

The adventure of my life

The stealing video reminds me of stealing in Fallout New Vegas.
"Hey, I'm just going to drag these items into this broom closet, go in there myself, close the door and come out a few moments later. Naturally, the items will still be in the broom closet when I leave, trust me."
"But of course!"

Speaking of which, does anyone who has the game know if it has similar freezing issues that FO3 and NV had? I know Bethesda is using a new game engine for this and was wondering how it compared.

I can not get the PC version to work. From having to reinstall six times (three of them in a row), to countless bugs and horrible UI, they just really ****ed up. I realized it was going to be a port but my god, it's like they just took the console version, changed the controls a bit, let a puppy play on a programmer's keyboard, then shipped it. Some people experience no problems, others have enough to last three Bethesda launches. It's just terrible.

EDIT: Make that seven times now.

All my friends play CoD but I've never been tempted to try it. If I want to socialize with my friends, I'll go out into The Real World * everybody gasps* and hang out with them in person. Get Skyrim, it's so much better than MW3.

Buy Skyrim if you want it more, and ask your friends to play a game you already have in common, with you, if they're not even willing to do that, then its not really worth it to buy "their" game just because they don't wanna play with you.

I've come across a ton of all those, but as of now I have a house in Solitude, Jenassa's my follower, I have a pet called Meeko who's my dog, and I have yet to find a spouse.

Btw, if anyone wants to get married, you need to have an amulet of mara, which you can buy off a guy in the Bee and Barb in Riften, or find on the beach to the east of Dawnstar.

Okay guys... I really like the look of this game... SHould I buy this, Or Uncharted 3?

Do you prefer hollywoodesque action/adventure and replayablity through online mode? Buy Uncharted.
Do you prefer high fantasy with a nordic style that takes hundreds of hours to complete? Go with Skyrim.

I have both, and I just can't say which one I like best. Uncharted 3 packs the best 8 hours of gameplay you can have but you'll be yearning for more the moment it's over. Skyrim requires more patience and screwing around to get you to the good parts.

I've found two of them and am clueless to what they do. It's just a building with 4 gates and a single lever in the center. I'm assuming they are apart of some quest, but which one?

So, apparently the Xbox 360's optional installation has an issue. Bethesda recommends people to install it to reduce the excrutiatingly long loading times on the Xbox, but when you install it, the texture streaming is affected and some textures get downgraded (http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/digitalfoundry-skyrim-texture-problems-on-xbox-360).

Choose the PS3, and go with fuzzy textures and (possibly, awaiting Digital Foundry's article on this) weakest render distance.
Choose the PC, and get riddled with loads of bugs. (a friend of mine in a forum said he had to extract a file from Oblivion's Mod Manager to get someting related with the voices to work. People who screwed the process up got their gamesave broken)
Choose the 360 and you'll also have to choose between downgraded textures or terrible loading times.

Pick your poison, ladies and gentlemen.

So here's my first opinion after a whole red eyed weekend with it... To start I LOVE THIS GAME! Seriously, I fell in love with it instantly. IT's better then oblivion and in my opinion it's better for me than Morrowind was. I love everything about it, yes it has some technical hiccups, but it never has once brought me out of the overall experience of the game. I spent two hours just wandering around doing anything that came up. Now two days in, I have 17 hours played, i'm a level 20 Kajeet, specializing in archery. Just joined the dark Brotherhood as well as the Companions(fighter guild). I'm so into it, all I can say is there goes my life.2011-11-14 06:13:00

Who's your provider? xD

Installing from the disc.

What is this "shutting it down" you speak of?
Gotta get back, freezing out here... danged luna moths, they never freeze. Just follow the road, follow the road... is my character getting sleepy? the screen is going black. Snap, it's me. Gotta get some coffee. Can't stop to sleep here, there are wolves... some mead to warm the belly... or is it coffe? Can't... stop... now... zzzzzzzzzzzzzzz

But Skyrim lived up to the hype. It wasn't over hyped, it was just very hyped up for good reason. MW3 however...

I've recently been going after the 8 dragon priests, each of which owns a mask which do something pretty cool if brought together at the right place

I think so, since there's a Thieves Guild. But I think I've already seen a perk (maybe high up in the "pickpocket" constellation but I'm not sure) that allows you to sell stolen goods to normal merchants. Soon I'll confirm if I am remembering this correctly.

Speech I believe.

I find it funny how I can defeat dragons no problem, but if a Snow Sabre Cat runs up to me, it's all over

I've trapped Morkai's soul in the Black Star. I also have the Staff of Magnus. I should have the Skeleton Key in a few hours...then I'm getting back to the main quest. I recommend you google both Azura's Star and Skeleton Key if you're not familiar with the items.2011-11-15 17:36:00

Only my horse so far has died on me... I was gutted.
The housecarl Lydia that you get for becoming Thane of Whiterun seems to be tough as nails... she's normally killed something before I have a chance to start casting!

I was starting to think maybe she was invincible - but maybe not...

Yup, I've got three and they're all still alive, but that's because I never use them. I don't think I ever will, not on quests anyway, I usually pick off as many enemies as I can sneaking with my bow and arrow then go in and finish up with sword in hand. I can only see followers being a nuisance with my way of doing things, I might take them with me if I'm just mucking around though.

Horses are another thing I never use, I find I'm more than fast enough on foot.

Oh, also, I started a video series, where I tell stories of my adventure. I'm fairly sure they can't die, they only are unable to fight for a few moments when their health is depleted, where then they get back up and fight more when it refills; mind that you can kill them yourself though.

I have found that my followers can't die... to enemies. I, of course, am not an enemy, so murdering by my hand is possible, and oh boy does it happen a lot. If I had a cent for every time I shot Meeko in the head with an arrow and killed him, I'd be a millionaire. Seriously, I find I have to reload saves more because I killed my followers rather than having me died.

In other news, I've got seven of the eight dragon priest masks

So...I killed Lydia and J'zargo? D: Well...I was using flames on both occasions and I know for a fact J'zargo jumped in to it (One moment Im burning an ice troll to a crisp, the next I realize he had rejoined me and was standing in front of the troll D: ) So perhaps I will bring followers around once more, just be sure to use more accurate spells. The old trick from the previous games was to commit some heinous crimes and choose to do the time in jail - this would lower your level if you stayed in jail for long enough and then you could re-level up and put more points in your skills - but the levelling system was different in the previous games, so the same trick probably won't work.

She'll pop up anytime you load a new area. If not, she was probably murdered painfully and slowly by a pack of wolves, her final words being...

This got delivered yesterday, and even though I'm not ready to play it, I couldn't resist popping it in to have a quick look.

Character builder has been drastically nerfed. Mostly it's choosing between some presets with few actual parameter sliders, none of which are inter-connected. This was probably a wise move for most players, but I would have appreciated the chance to try to make one of the desiccated ancient alien husks they're trying to pass off as elves presentable. I thought Wood Elf implied where they live...not what they are made out of!

Really like the new lock-picking mechanic, feels more realistic.

Environments are beautiful and full of nice details. Sadly the combat seems little improved from Oblivion and you don't get any sense that your weapon has actually connected with anything. They added some finishing move sequence that's very disorienting...I don't need the camera zooming in every time I kill something, I didn't do anything special (need to see if you can turn this off). It's pretty difficult going from the excellent combat in Dark Souls to this, which is decidely lame, I'll probably play as a pure-mage so I'm less apt to compare the two.

Anyway, Skyrim seems quite promising so far, if you liked Oblivion (I thought it was hugely overrated) you'll certainly enjoy this. Of course the most dangerous thing I've encountered thus far in Skyrim has been a kettle that decided it really needed to be elsewhere in a hurry!
