"Cardboard Dreams" By AssassinatorRFC

Archive: 35 posts

Hey everyone! this is my new level and possibly my last level on Little Big planet 1

Working title- "Cardboard Dreams"
Theme- Generic
Type- Adventure
Aimed Difficulty- Easy/medium
Description- A bubbly adventure through a maze of contraptions which use realistic methods to create the effects of the mechanisms used. The level itself is rather plain by using just cardboard and sponge and a few sticker cutouts. I have tried to do this to emphasise the gameplay and obstacles.

This is the Entrance to the level with a hidden part and a switch to start your adventure.

This is the first obstacle set where you bounce up and swing over to the door.

This is the open section where I have got to which has a toggle switch that raises the first 2 up above you and then you swing across back. Also in this picture is Liquidsnake about to fail

Hope you all like the picutres!

Well, what I've seen from this level so far when playing with you in LBP, it is very good! The idea isn't too original but this is most definitely the best use of the idea! I just hope that on top of this, you'll be able to finish 'Gone Nutty' 2010-12-11 23:31:00

Update 11 December 11:55

Hey everyone! this is the new stuff I have added to my new project! I have added at least 2 minutes worth of gameplay since the thread was started Here are some pictures of the new sections I have taken which dont give everything about it away!

http://www.lbpcentral.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=28095
This is the second view and updated jump pad section that I started. Here is a set piece to the left that I have made compulsary to progressing in the level

http://www.lbpcentral.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=28094
This is the open air section with balloon swings and cool pillars. Also I am about to fail :hero:

http://www.lbpcentral.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=28093
This is the inside of the second building with my awesome bouncy platform with reciprocating mechanisms.

http://www.lbpcentral.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=28096
This is the second outside bit that I have made today It is not fully finished as the lift broke after the picture and the ray-door is inverted in the wrong way. Yes you can see some dark matter in the bottom left (now you seen it ) that is a temporary measure to make the box transporters fall away from the set.

That is the update and I hope this makes you want more! This level will be out before LBP2 and it will be my last project

Tell me what you think!

I think that I need to get as good as you, sadly weapons don't buy me love...
and I've held off on Project Phantom for quite some time.

Merc simple answer. I can't make awesome levels at the same level you can! You specialise in detail and awesome weapon recreation. And I just create pretty good. Your trade as it is should be more popular for you because there are only a handfull of people who can create awesome guns like you where as there are alot of good creators.

The word I am looking for is specialised. Everyone is specialised in the thing they do best and that is guns/detail for you and platforming for me.it's two different worlds mate

Yeah, your right, I just get dissapointed sometimes because the community is more interested in levels, BUT when LBP2 is out, I'm going to make an awesome level series called Gun Bug, where you're a little bug with superstrength that carries my guns and fires them at things! wow... i made that up on the spot, that would actually be pretty cool!2010-12-12 03:54:00

This looks really good, as i'm a big fan of simplicity with cardboard. Thetre's no need to be all flashy, when you can just use cardboard! I'll be sure to test this out once it's published, as it looks excellent!2010-12-12 21:45:00

[Updated 12 December 21:48]

Hey everyone! this is the new update of what I got done today!

http://www.lbpcentral.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=28107
This is the first update I have done to the level and it is a continuation of the box carrier section started yesterday. I have used alot of the thermometer because of the emitters needing to emit so many to create the desired effect.

http://www.lbpcentral.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=28109
This is the end of the Box carrier section which is directly after the transfer above.

http://www.lbpcentral.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=28106
Also this is the start of the industrial section I started today with thrusters with hot gas that will kill you with contact.

http://www.lbpcentral.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=28108
This is a continuation of the industrial section which brings back the earlier element of the sponge swing.

Also new, I have fixed the lift section and made all the logic invisible

Thanks to Ceejayem, G7775 and Arnald12 for helping with the pictures

Tell me what you think people!

I don't even wanna know how you think of things this awesome... Care to give any pointers?? I get so confused when I try to make good obstacles it's not even funny... Well, it kinda is, but I can't even seem to recreate those stupid extendable stairs from the Elephant Temple....2010-12-13 01:21:00

First of all, thanks! Nice to know people lime my ideas
And second I will help you out

My ideas usually start out as inspiration from other things. This can be films, levels, mechanisms or just plain cool stuff! I will share some awesome facts about the ideas in this level:

The jump pads were inspired by Poms' barrel shooters from spices&co.
The balloon section was inspired by one of my all time movies "pixar's Up"
The box carriers were inspired by the door chase sequence in "Monsters Inc."
The whole theme was generally inspired by Steve-Big-Gunz, comphermc, ladylynn.
The level was first born when I had an idea to use a recipericating mechanism to power a block (like a car piston) and I thought it would be a cool idea to take it back to basic and show how I did everything.
I used a pen and paper to draw out cool ideas when I wasn't on the PS3 working on the level
And the name came about because I was tired when I was thinking of the concept, so I related that to dreams, and that was that!

And that your honour is how I can waste time and lose sleep about a level for a video game!

Give me a shout if you ever need some help mate!

Ha ha, I remember when we were fooling around in create, and you made that piston, and then you were like "Hey guys, come see, I made something cool!"
And you had all those cardboard cutouts hanging behind you.
Good times, good times...

:&apos yeah it's always emotional seeing the road of which how a level has come together. It seems like only last week I was making the start of the level :hero:

heh, I get that same feeling when I make my guns, although it isn't quite the same considering they only take about 45 mins to make!
but I do remember my first game with 4 people, and when bomb survivals were fun, and I was bad at creating, those were the days...

Thanks wulfus! Glad you like it!

Exactly and my mate might be able to get me a copy early so I have enough time.

Also if anyone wants to know, I have scripted a machinima for my YouTube!

If you want a tester, give me a heads-up (PSN Stellakris).

Judging by the screenshots, may I suggest you try and see if by making the cardboard background pane slightly darker (use the semi-transparent beveled circle thingie sticker) perhaps the contrast between background and platform increases?
