Creator Spotlight; How long would you like the videos?

Archive: 17 posts

The Creator Spotlight team has been granted longer videos on YouTube!
So, now we have a little breathing room - How long would you like the creator spotlights to be?

15 minutes - There's nothing wrong with the video length as they are!
15 - 20 minutes - More is better, but I like things short and sweet too!
20 - 25 - Are you kidding?! I'll take as much Spotlight-y goodness as I can get my hands on!
Some other time limit. Yeah, I'm gonna be different to the others!

Vote now!

Lots of love, everyone on the Creator Spotlight crew

The creator rewinds are going to be longer?
Excellent!
I think 20 minutes at the absolute maximum, we only have short attention spans you know

These things come out so rarely, why not make them as long as possible! 2010-12-09 22:09:00

I'd say 15-20, but more toward the latter. They're really fun to watch, so I would like to watch them longer! 2010-12-09 22:11:00

I'll take as much as I can get But its a request, not a demand I love the spotlights, and I appreciate the effort the crew puts into it regardless of how long it is. I just hope some of these choices aren't biting off more than you can chew.2010-12-10 22:21:00

Man I'm completely fine with the time you guys have been giving, but I'd have to say 15 being the minimum at least and possibley 20 the most. We all here love and adore the videos and more importantly the work that goes on behind the scenes. I'm sure most of us don't want you guys having too much on your plate for just the sake of a few minutes of video. For me it would be fine with whatever time limit you had. Getting the main bits and then tailoring the length of it to match evenly with the main creator and the randomness that goes along with it is alright by me. Whatever you guys decide to go with it fine with me. If only we could add another person to help with something say set design? *looks at self* 2010-12-11 03:11:00

The actuality is that it has been more of a pain attempting to cut them down to 15 minutes! ..and to think we used to fight like everything to squeeze them under 10 our old limit. This last one (Syroc's) we wasted an extra few days trimming out storyline bits that we would have loved to stay in had we known we were about to be bumped past our 15 minute barrier. So it hasn't ever been any trouble filling 20 minutes or more. We've actually have a ton more that lands on the floor just considering the creator's closeup video.

We're just curious of everyone's thoughts on what we were doing currently. Like if it feels too long as it is, or can we bump it a bit more to take advantage of this new designation given to us by youtube. We are hoping at maybe 18min as a comfy target while keeping 15min in mind. ...if that makes sense!!

Appreciate everyone's thoughts!

:hrmf:'Brevity' being the"soul of wit"... and all that, nothing worse than being dastardly done in by ones' own self. That too much of a good thing... goes triple for over-satiated egos and sense of humours.<32010-12-16 17:08:00

I actually agree 100 percent with Gravel here. I honestly think that there really is too much of a good thing. If a spotlight needs to run over, it probably could ... and it's nice to have the option... but... well...

long ago, in a galaxy far, far away...I used to do animations and they would keep getting grander and grander and longer and longer. One year, I found myself working from August to December on ONE animation... and it ended up being an hour long. By the end of it, I never wanted to animate ever again, and none of the voice actors wanted anything to do with it either, because it crossed the line between work and fun. You definitely have to set limits on these sorts of things, otherwise, you'll kill yourself trying to top the last one with something even grander. Also, we don't want to kill the video editors now, do we? I like those guys and want them to be alive.

Yeah, I wasn't wanting massive spotlights, just enough to give the editors some breathing room with awesome footage!2010-12-16 17:30:00

In my opinion - just an opinion, by the way, what the community wants is way more important - make 15 minutes your goal. Aim for that every week. And then that way, on the weeks when you just have more content than you know what to do with, you can expand and go up to 20, and then on other weeks when there's less to work with you can go under 15 (sometimes even down to 10) without the community giving you too much hassle.

Basically, allow yourself some flexibility. No need to keep to a rigid limit if you don't have to.

As CC said, l would say 10 minutes is good if you have little to talk about, 15 if you have a little bit of information we need to here, and 20 if there something Super important other than that l would say:

ALL!!!!!!

Instead of aiming to make each one the same length I'd advise you to suit the video you're working on; some will be funnier if they're shorter, there's no sense in filling an extra five minutes with rubbish just so you can hit the 20 minute mark.

It would be awesome to make them longer, but I wouldn't want to stress you guys out. Or do I?2010-12-24 18:36:00

Whatever is easiest for the crew imo.
As long as the spotlights still exist I'm happy.
