Trail Mix - Score Challenge [Spotlighted]

Try to get the highest score possible by getting point combos in this free-roam score challenge. Many different routes to choose from in these woods. Also try to find the hidden bonus area for even more points. If not, you could just enjoy the visuals

L1GhT here again with another level for you players to try. Its a freeroam score challenge where you try to get a high score multiplier while jumping through tree branches, mountains, grass layers, bridges, cabins...ect.(lol) All of this is contained in a small area so if you missed bubbles you can go back with ease. It has a preview mode so you can see the whole level before you dive in so you can plan your point of attack. Also if you find the bonus area you'll see its no ordinary area. Yea, theres more points and an extra chance to get a higher score but you have to earn them. If you don't like the challenging platforming, hopefully you'll like the art style of the level. I think I used some moderately used materials to make an Autumn type atmosphere. Originally this was a freeroam level with a story but friends suggested I make it into a score challenge since I don't have any minigame levels. I hope you enjoy this level as it was a pain to make. I went through the unglue glitch twice in this level so its been built 3 times.....grrr.

I would like to thank Ninjamicwz for his awesome ideas and help. Also would like to thank him, Sabre_ and zerotiger99 for keeping me company during its creation. These two guys deserve a special thanks. They played every version of the level (over 1500 plays) and made it what it is today with thier critiques. They are Zynax555 and BooXely. You'll see them on the scoreboard probly with insane highscores. They know the level like the back of thier hand. Looks good ill check this out next time Im on lbp, Im not good at collecting bubbles lol but Im already curious about the scenery. The Badge looks kick butt i wanna point that out. That house looks cool ^______^ and I never thought Id see someone do such good use of that Cardboard material but im wow'ed, ill leave some feedback when I play it like 2 or 5 times, till then.2010-12-09 01:09:00

HIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIGH SCOOOOORRRRRRRE, no seriously. No one will beat my score. This level has already consumed so much of my time and now I fear it will steal away my weekend because of my obsessive need for a perfect run. If it wasn't clear enough already, I think this level has a lot of replay value to it, and I personally think it's one of the most fun bubble combo levels I've ever played. Almost the entire level is combo-able, but the path isn't going to be easy. The difference in score between a perfect run and an ok run is almost exponential. The visuals are great as usual, making use of a variety of materials that work well together, creating an enjoyable, Autumn atmosphere.... to go crazy collecting bubbles in!!!!

Another great aspect of this level is that it can appeal to most everyone, as a lot of bubble combo levels do (not all though, because it depends on their general platforming difficulty). You'll enjoy this level whether you're looking for an extreme challenge, or if you simply just want to enjoy the fantastic scenery! Five stars and definitely a heart.

Thanks! Hope you like it. Yea with this level I experimented alot with materials that are never used or rarely used and tried to make it appealing to people who like fresh art styles. Hopefully it works/ looks good to others. And yes I love the badge too

Thanks for your help for making this so good and helping troubleshoot iffy combos. But its funny how your exponentially better than me at my own level. When I seen your score on the level beta, I was like WTH. Cant wait to see what you have up your sleeve for the final release on single player. Its going to be insane to say the least...but I wonder who will take the team (2 -4p) title? hehehe

It's funny that you say that, because you and I both know that you'll never beat me. Never, never ever ever. I've fit the bonus area into my route very nicely now and I almost got a 100x multiplier tonight, but I died, and then continued to rage quit. Do you see what me and zynax had to put up with? We only tested it because we like L1GhT, and didn't want to hurt his feelings.


(In all honesty though, the level was a pleasure to test, and the countless hours I put into the beta were well worth my time, and I sincerely reccomend this level to all. )

We got used to it.

I do have some critiques with the final version however.


My Rant

-I thought it would be nice if the speech bubbles at the start were avoidable if you held right while entering the level, would make it easier when restarting alot.
-On the first jumps in the secret area, I thought it would be helpful to add a small layer of cardboard on them, to make it easier to see where to jump, the sponge material makes it hard to see.
-I know this is un-avoidable, but the lag got kinda annoying around Zy's trail, but I guess I'm just used to the bare level.

I see you used my darkened newspaper idea.

Really a very nice level, I look forward to getting the hi-score!

yeah, make the contest, man. if you need any xp for it... i don't know what i have, but you can snag it.

the level ended up looking and playing amazing. i'll try to play the finished version now, but i know i'll be going nuts once i get hooked on chaining. i've never seen any level with as crazy long a chain and sprint potential as this.

Haha I got 3rd and I hope I can get better although it's tough keeping a good pace and not dying once for a "Perfect Run" throughly enjoyed this level and man I gotta say it's really addicting if you can manage a highscore. Loved this level and it was beautifully crafted. I especially loved the falling leaves effect you had going Me and booxley got the 2 player highscore by the way lol I was mainly boo who got most of the points though Great level :star::star::star::star::star: and a <3. Woot guess whos first? XD well idk if I will be there for long I dont think i will =( anyway. The level was great, I really liked the scenery and everything it was awesome. I like how you made that falling leaves effect but it got a little bothersome >_< it kinda created lag at some point and ruined my score, though in some spot the lag actually helped lol =P, like it kept me from falling into the spikes for example. I liked the Bonus round XD I found it, the first time It went bad but the second time I got it perfect.

the level is addicting, I wish It had more paths maybe 2 or 3 different endings that way you could choose any path, but it was well made, im sure someone can pull off a 100X if they play the level right without dying, Overall I gave it...

-I don't see any way around that. I could put all speech bubbles in the same area. That way on the second speech bubble you can just walk out of the radius of the sensor switch and all the speech bubbles will turn off.

Nice! Yea, what I like about the level is that you make your own difficulty. If you just wanna collect bubbles you can but if you want the high score you have to take some risks that might give you an edge or prove to be costly. I put extra work in the visuals so anyone can play and hopefully like it. Hopefully the badge brung you in to play it. Made like 25 different versions of that badge lol

AGHHHH Ill take some of the emitters out so itll be less laggy. LOL go check the scoreboards ...yea i was surprised you and some others found it so easily. The beauty of it is that it can actually be chained with the rest of the level. I was going to put more paths but i was ready to start something new. Im glad you liked it. hey hey hey now eeeh understand all that were here and I tell you that i kept in the pod. Anyway now if my feedback, because as always a good fun bro, well designed and quite entertaining, you know i iked the atmosphere from the first moment i saw you started this project and buenoal see the development during this time because i have to tell you has been great, no more i liked the combination of materials, the idea, obstacles and good but we are not the best score between my wife and I really know that we really liked this level.

Im glad you two liked it alot to heart it. Means alot Yes I think the material choice is what sets this apart from others mostly. You saw how I messed around with materials alot. Big process lol. Thanks again for the review!

Also I have an update! Its as follows:

-stickered most of the point bubbles with the level patch sticker for a more custom look
-move some speech bubbles closer so it doesnt hinder replays that much.
-added wood to the first few jumps of the bonus area for smoother landing and jumping
- deleted 2 falling leaf emitter for less lag
-also added an on/off function for the remaining emitters for people who still think its too laggy during play. Just grab any grass near Cabin 99 and it can toggle it on or off. Also added a confirmation sign with 2 led lights. Green mean emitters on and red means emitters off.

Hope you enjoy the updates Ill try to figure out a way to skip the speech bubbles completely in the mean time.

This level was soooooooo catchy! Awesome awesome awesome! Its one of those levels where you spend so much time searching for any little bubble or combo possibility. I replayed it 3 times before I actually finished with a high score I felt somewhat content with. The bonus room was a nice surprise to see, even though I kinda stunk at it, I actually ended up with less points than I started with because I died so much in there. It reminded me a lot of Vilter by Mother-Misty (I think).

Overall, great material choice, good detail, and all-in-all deserving of :star::star::star::star::star: and a big fat <3

Ok, I've finally gotten an ok high score of 440,000. I am shooting for 600,000 but I accidentally broke my combo before I got the 100x multiplier. Regardless, I doubt anyone will beat this besides myself, which I plan on doing, eventually...

I would like to challenge any and all of you to try to beat it, though.

As always, you never disappoint with your innovative and distinct style of creating levels. I wasn't too keen on score challenge levels, but this, I had to give a try. In fact, I really enjoyed playing your level so much that I kept wanting to play it over and over again. Your use of materials and the specific and intricate detail you put into your level made it that much more unique than most levels Ive seen. I really have nothing bad nor have any changes to offer in your otherwise perfect level. My only question is why haven't you been on the "Creator Spotlight" yet? I can't wait to see what you will create on LBP2. I'm looking forward to it. 10 :star:s and <3 from me.

Very cool level! I had a lot of fun playing this last night. It has something for everyone. There's plenty of challenge in it for those making a serious attempt at a high score but it's still a blast for more casual players like me who mess around stringing a few shorter combos together and enjoy the scenery.

Great choice of materials and some nice details in the visuals - personally I really liked the falling leaves. I also thought it was a nice touch that you named sections of the level after your testers!

I think it's a testament to your abilities as a creator that you're able to pull off something like this which feels so fresh and distinctive even in the dying days of LBP1.

Yea, the bonus room is the hardest platforming area to keep up with, especially if your trying to combo it with the rest of the level. I almost always die down there trying to keep up the multiplier. Thats a surprise...I never wouldve thought it would be compared to one of her levels! Thanks for the review!

Thanks for the kind words! On this level I really set out to use materials that arent used alot and bring them together to make something thats worth playing or walking through. Me for a spotlight?! Nah. There are plenty of other creators that are more worthy than me. I've been publishing levels on a serious level since January of this year. There are other creators who have been creating since day one and haven't been spotlighted yet. But I will be surprised if that ever happens . Thanks for your review, heart and stars!

This made my day today. I read it while at work. Im glad you could see that it was targeted for all players and not just hardcore bubble hoarders. I spent alot of time on the scenery. It was hard somewhat since I had to fit the platforming and the combos with in the environment because originally it was going to be a freestyle, story level. Glad you liked all the details. Ah, you figured out the meanings of the signs! I think your the first to notice or atleast the first to mention it . thanks for the kind words. Im glad you enjoyed it
