A Broken Paradise (Spotlighted)

Archive: 30 posts

In a dark corner of the world lies the once perfect paradise, later the land was abandoned. As time went on the hidden fortress was turned into ruins, plants now cover every inch, turning it into... A Brocken Paradise

This is my new level, from my point of view I have improved greatly on my level making compared to one of my earlier levels, The Arabian Ruins. Yet again I have created a ruins theme type level, but instead of the Arabian/Roman style ruins I have created more of a egypytion style ruins. I looked on the internet for some inspiration, well... didn't get any. Not sure if I was looking in the wrong place but got know ideas. Anywho I still kept the egyption theme. Now I have my finished product, I also have some images for a sneak peek:

I will only do 10 f4f's as I dont want to spend all my lbp time checking out you levels (I have a life too)

This is a nice level although it is a little short.

It looks very pretty and has a good variety of obstacles.

I think that the "R1" signs ruin the look slightly, maybe they should be replaced with something more in keeping with the rest of the level.

The ostatcles all worked well, although I had quite a lot of trouble getting on to the cart at the end.

Finally, I'm pretty sure you mean "Broken Paradise".

Overall: :star::star::star::star:

For F4F, please play my level: https://lbpcentral.lbp-hub.com/index.php?t=40950-Save-the-Burning-Village!

A level like this shouldnt fade away, this is an amazing level, and your showing alot of promise lately, this level is amazing, the scenery and platforming everything is very good and well made. All i have to say is I had a hard time on the cart section for some reason one of the carts broke before I could reach the end of the level, you might wanna check that out, this level on my opinion gets...

:star::star::star::star::star:, Great job

btw idk if its actually like that but I think you mispelled Broken, unless you meant Brocken well anyway check that out .

thanks for your reviews guys, im ttrying to fix the cart but the only way to do it is to take half the level apart because the emmiter isn't in plain sight and i not sure where it is, ill post again when i have fixed it2010-12-10 21:34:00

I think the level had a really nice look to it. There were a few spots with layering isues but not that big of a deal. I didn't have any problems with the cart. You might have already fixed the problem. my only complaint is that right when i really started getting into the flow of the level, it ended. I wish that it was longer. it was fun but.... you know it could have used more action, seemed kinda like random obstacles... though they somwhat tied into the background, they didn't flow, and that is very important in levels. you need to make it seem less rough transitioning from obstacles, thats kinda it. but it was still very detailed:star::star::star:2010-12-13 23:55:00

Metalhead,
Your level is done very very well. If there is a suggestion, it would be this - DONT get bored and make your level longer. Give people the time to get comfortable with your level and truly enjoy it. Right when I was thinking, 'Dang, this level is pretty cool' the level ended. It has all the elements, gameplay, graphics, music and sounds but is murdered by the length. I have no real suggestions, everything was also clearly marked. Not much variation in gameplay but I think if you add more to the level it can be fixed by adding something unique. I scored 5 stars because the talent is there and the level was put together very nicely, but yes, more length is certainly needed to get more appreciation on this one.

As requested, here is your feedback, sorry it took a while

Congratulations on the spotlight! It was well deserved, as this is quite a gem of a level. There isn't a ton of gameplay, it's a bit short, but the visuals are absolutely fantastic. Your creative use of stickers, lighting, and shaping materials made this level a treat to play.

If you want to improve the level, I only have really one suggestion, and that's to try and keep the same level of polish throughout. You start off the level, and are introduced to a ruined temple: beautifully destroyed with lots of lovely crinkly edges and detail. At the end of the level, you take a minecart past some blocky shapes, into a ruined area which just doesn't feel quite as finished. Straight lines seem an oddity in the area, and so when at the end we take a mine cart ride and the visuals simplify, it seems odd.

Others have suggested that you might make the level longer, and while I agree that I'd love to see more, it's really your choice. Based upon the ending, i'm not entirely sure if your heart is in making additional stuff for the level, in which case you chose a great place to stop, while the player still enjoys your creativity.

I gave the level :star::star::star::star: and a <3, thanks for the fun experience

I just played this level and the detail amazed me! It looked so vibrant! It definitely deserves its spotlight if you ask me, and it was well underplayed. It had some cool platforming ideas, but my favorite part of the level was the looks. The only thing I would say that is slightly bad about it is the length, a tad short, but with all the stickers and all, could have overheated fast. Overall, a great theme, and a certain :star::star::star::star::star: and a <32010-12-20 21:06:00

Okay so I'm going to write as I play as soon as you enter the theme is set and it is incredibly cool. The subltle led lighting is superb and I like the use of stikering right off the bat. The falling platforms are good, maybe add sound effects as they land? Nice mushrooms cut-outs! I find the grabble sponge that lifts you up a bit stiff, maybe change it to string so there is a bit of challenge for the players? Nice R1 stiker help throughout. I see some great point combos, nice man. The switch you pull is sorta hidden at first, more noticable stickering there? Aww it's over already? Great level dude, 5 ***** and a <3 from me Great pace and great visuals, loved it to death! 2010-12-24 05:02:00

Surely a level with great visuals: you did a vert good use of fire, sticker and materials, creating a touching atmosphere.
The music you picked helped making that atmosphere, so good choice. Obviously the level was too short, I think it can be caused by the thermo, our biggest enemy.
The gameplay was ok, good platforms and other things.
I had a little lag playing this level, maybe caused by the complexity of the visuals.
Overall, a very good level, sadly too short.

I'd like if you tried my level for F4F: "The Long Night of Mr. Krom" or "Mm Squad's Christmas mission: Protect the Pack!" by xDante95x. You can find the thread clicking on "My Creations" under my nickname. Just choose one of them and play it, then give me a little feedback

Hey Dude,

You're holding out on me... your a darn good creator. Congratulations on the spotlight... looks like you broke that century mark! The look of this level is brilliant and that's coming after I played Arabian Ruins, which is a feast for the eyes! I had a couple minor layer switching issues but nothing which detracted from my overall experience...

To your credit, at one point I thought I was in a Morgana25 level. It was the section of platforming where you are hauled up and the sections part to allow you past... I think she had the exact same thing in one of her dragons of myth levels but in reverse! There's no accusation there... just compliment. With a little more planning and some patients, I think you could pump out some truly worthy full levels... Anyway, nice work.

Anyway thanks and ill try and get my review on the level i said id review, lol
Thanks

Decided to play your levels since you give good feedback to others.

Nice level. Good looks, decent gameplay in there too.
Shame about the length.

The biggest improvement I could suggest, is to use the "squint test".
Basicially squint your eyes at each section of your level. The path should be still be clear.
It's a trick from Naughty Dog I heard they used on their Crash levels. For example on the underwater levels in Crash 3, there is a bright blue line (in the back layer) guiding the player all the way through.
The reason I bring it up is that the path is completing with the background in your level.

Would be happy to beta test anything of yours.

I was play your level and i love it so much, the design is pretty, cool and lovely the use of the layers i like it so much i think more important than ever levels especially in the game-play, the osbt?culos, roads, and all areas are well designed, represented and very clean, and this makes the level even more interesting, i liked the use of fire areas is very well thought out, like the use of stickers is pretty good, have a good job here and a deserved spotlight
