Weapon Wheel is BACK!! Capeili main character! Campain Co-Op, On & Offline
Who's excited? :hero:
Release date to be September6th

We'll get into this more on the Full Moon Show, I think... and we have to be careful about discussing exactly where we are in dev... but we totally have a lot of content done (2 years of dev so far) w/ a lot of polishing to go.

the game is playable start to finish on disc though, which is pretty insane for an Insomniac game w/ this much time left.
On multiplayer in Resistance 3:

It's new, improved. It's a more focused experience, progression-based, and takes place in maps located around the world.

much more on MP to come
On possible 3D (and Playstation Move) support:

TBD. Same goes for the inevitable "are you supporting move?" question
The new Auger sight is awesome, should've notice the proper iron sights for the magnum too, and all the chimeran Weapons have cool alien ironsights to them.

Did you guys see the Upgraded Rossmore light that Longlegs on fire and cause the blast root to blow? #flamingShotgunIsMoreFun

Sledgehammer... CONFIRMED. If Ratchet has a wrench, Capelli can have a sledgehammer...

4minutes of gameplay. It looks pretty awesome
And just realised, Resistance actually made "natural" health, make sense. Infected, then you heal
EDIT: MP is confirmed to have a maximum number of 16 players, and the maps will be set across the world. And there are streaks.

Wow, that fact that it is already finished means that Insomniac has the next 8 months to polish and tweak the game to perfection. It also means that can devote a lot of time to the multiplayer which has always been a blast. I think I am most intrigued by the "takes place in maps located around the world" part. I think we can expect some of the best maps ever in what is a competitive FPS environment. I hope they bring back the co-op game too, I spent more time in R2 playing that then any other game mode lol.2010-12-13 10:38:00

I don't know about resistance 3. rfom 1 was one of my favourite games ever. I loved the online as it wasn't too simple (cod) or too complicated (resistance 2).
I hated resistance 2. They went on and on about how great their multiplayer was. It was crap. They got rid of the personality from it. I loved going into a sniper only match and shooting heads off people. You couldn't choose just a sniper match in resistance 2. Everyone was OTT and nuts. It felt a mess and if you didn't notice already, I didn't like it.

That said, today we are finally able reveal, due to overwhelming community demand, that Resistance 3 will support Stereoscopic 3DTV. Furthermore, those of you who are enjoying the precision of the PlayStation Move motion controller with your copies of Killzone 3 and the SOCOM 4 Beta will be delighted to know that Resistance 3 will also support PlayStation Move and the sharp shooter. After Killzone 3 launched, we heard a massive amount of positive feedback, and were inundated with requests to support both PlayStation Move and sharp shooter. So we?re glad to be able to finally confirm the news!

The multiplayer looks cool from what I've seen. I really can't wait for this game to come out. I really want to see how the storyline pans out during this game and see what happens next.

I still play resistance 2 online quite a lot, and I'd say I'm quite good. I always finish within the top 10 and over the last few weeks ive been finishing either 1st 2nd or 3rd, even if the game was already half way through being played. Has anyone else got this game?

I am a massive Resistance fan and although I was apprehensive with the cut to 16 players from the 60 in R2 the new trailers had quelled any worries I had, it looks spectacular. Written text from the IGN preview:

When I recently traveled to Sony's northern California offices to get my second look at Resistance 3's multiplayer, I was almost instantly struck with the same vibe that I got when I first played it at this year's GDC. This is a dark game. Then again, Resistance is a notoriously dark series, and its somber and hopeless feel is part of what makes the series so beloved amongst the PlayStation faithful.

The thing is, the dreary nature of Resistance 3's multiplayer isn't experienced in a vacuum, and that's because of how cleverly (yet peripherally) the game's multiplayer offering is tied-in with the single-player campaign. In Resistance 3, humanity has all but lost the fight against the invading Chimera. Resistance: Fall of Man and Resistance 2 presented an increasingly dire situation for humans in this alternate history time that has all but deteriorated by the time Resistance 3 begins. The United States is a husk of its former self, with the Chimera confidently terraforming the planet and killing any semblance of humanity that gets in its way.

But Resistance 3 doesn't rely on the American imagery of the single-player campaign when it comes to multiplayer. As I first reported when I first gave Resistance 3's multiplayer a spin, while the single-player aspect of Resistance 3 takes place entirely within the confines of a decrepit United States, the multiplayer portion of the game takes place everywhere else.

At GDC, I got to spend time with a prison map located in Africa. This time around, I got to experience an abandoned, rusting trainyard somewhere in South America. Both places share the same hopeless, post-apocalyptic feel that makes Resistance what it is. And yet, there seems to be an untold story within these maps, one that makes you feel the ruthlessness of the Chimera and the impending defeat of humanity without ever having experienced either at these locations in the single-player campaign.

In other words, Insomniac is well on its way to absolutely nailing the ambience of Resistance 3, even when straying from single-player and into the realm of multiplayer. These aren't rehashed maps. These are areas and locations not seen in the main story, and they're built from the ground up to accommodate Resistance 3's new multiplayer mantra of a focused, smaller experiences as opposed to the much larger and more chaotic experience of Resistance 2. And while I certainly enjoyed the former, it at times bordered on anarchy and forced gamers to languish in locations that had already been tread.

While playing with the dev team and QA testers, there was little doubt that they were going easy on me as I got my bearings. But that all changed once they realized that I had a little fight in me. And while I certainly have plenty of experience with Resistance 2 online, the one thing I noticed straight away was that I would have to play Resistance 3 a little differently.

Tactically, the sprawling maps of Resistance 2 allowed you to play it safe, staying on the outside boundaries and striking from afar. No such luxuries have yet been afforded to me in either the prison or the trainyard in Resistance 3. The smaller and more condensed nature of the maps this time around forces combat and conflict more often and in more confined spaces. While I would have been perfectly comfortable sitting back with a Chimeran sniper rifle in Resistance 2 and picking off stagnant opponents from clear across the map, I wasn't able to execute this technique in Resistance 3. The game moves too quickly and furiously, making my skill with a weapon like the Deadeye useless.

But apart from the ambiance and the new pace found in Resistance 3, there's reason to be excited about things as simple as loadouts and perks. The more you level up, the more access to weapons you'll receive. Gamers will only be able to use the M582 Carbine, Bullseye and Deadeye at first, but even through my brief time in playing, I eventually leveled-up enough to unlock the Rossmore shotgun. And there will be more at your disposal apart from that small arsenal.

Doppelganger!
In terms of perks, these unlock in much the same way that weapons do. Level-up, earn experience points and keep on playing, and you'll get to increase the wow factor as you do everything from spawning a doppelganger to confuse your enemies to wielding a modified rifle with an air-cooled barrel to steady your aim. The perks in this game are awesome and give multiplayer a true sci-fi feel that's right at home in the Resistance universe.

Resistance 3 is still a ways out, but with its September release date drawing ever-nearer, my excitement for the game is growing. Now that I've had ample opportunity to play both the single-player and multiplayer portions of the game, I'm satisfied that Insomniac is attempting to right the wrongs of the previous games while staying true to the series' main strengths in terms of its atmosphere and story. And the good news is that, if you're like me and Resistance has always drawn you in primarily because of the compelling nature of the Chimera-Human conflict, there's going to be more for us to enjoy on the near horizon.

Yeah, they did. The train station isn't set in US as fa as I know.

But to be honest, I'm still a little worried about R3. I mean, they started off with 40, moved to 60 and now? 18. I'm going to miss the big maps, with the ability to just sit at another end of a street with the L3 Fareye. Yeah, I'm talking about chicago from R2

Did all interest die in one of the PS3's most celebrated franchises? The game officially drops next week but I just got my copy and am about to start off what I'm sure will be a spectacular campaign. It's fun, but maps are too small imo. Only played Chain Reaction (Reminds me of TF2s capture mode ) But I wish there were more players and bigger maps. And I hate killstreaks

Well I just finished my first playthrough on HARD, took me about 7 hours and I have to admit (and surprised to admit) that I am kind of disappointed. The game is good but not great, some thoughts:

Positives

The guns of course. Insomniac are masters of weaponry and with this at least, R3 does not disappoint. Old favorites like the Auger and Marksman return and new addtions like the Atomizer are super cool. I like the new upgrade system, weapons level up with use and are enhanced with each level (3 levels), they also change aesthetically which is always a nice touch. There seem to be some new dismemberment physics and the blood is the best the series has ever seen. Nothing like getting busy with a Rossmore and seeing some Grim's brains plastered on the wall. There are some exciting set pieces but still not as many as R2. The music is great throughout, sometimes menacing, sometimes tense, sometimes juts plain epic. Sound in general is a strong point. The new journal system is a welcome addition, the collectibles add to the story without being intrusive and the presentation is quite good. You also earn credits as you unlock trophies. These credits can be used to purchase artwork, titles for multiplayer, cheats etc. Adds to the replay value, can't complain there. Now the bad stuff...

Negatives

This games has some of the ugliest textures I have seen in a while. A lot of it just looks really grainy and low-res. The brown on brown color palette doesn't help either. With the exception of a handful of levels a lot of chapters just look the same. Contrast this with R1 and R2 and you really have to ask yourself why Insomniac chose this sort of "art direction". Animation can be stiff and the ladder climbing animation in particular is a disgrace, I cringed every single time. The levels are hit and miss and there are pacing issues. Some chapters kept me engaged while others were almost tedious. I never felt this in the previous games or most FPS' for that matter. The length is just...disappointing, I almost get the sense that Insomniac didn't want to make this game.

Overall I was hoping for a lot more. I have bought almost every FPS released on the PS3 this year and I was expecting R3 to be at the top of my favorite list, not the case. Let's see if MP can impress me enough to change my mind (though I doubt it since I always put more value on the SP experience).

How is it that Resistance 1 was the best (Even if the chimera were bullet sponges) then it drops in quality a bit with R2, and then by the sounds of it, to Resistance 3. The worst of the lot2011-09-04 12:27:00

Thanks for the honest review OCK.
Insomniac kept repeatedly stated that R3 is way better than R1/R2, and that they extended the production time to help with this.
So I am(/was) expecting a (at least) campaign better than the previous instalments. (Which were average imo.)
Ha, don't get me started on the ladder climbing. How the heck did that not get addressed?

You know it could be that my expectations were too great or that I just came of the high of Deus Ex (which I have now went back to for a 2nd playthrough) which is such a masterpiece of a game that everything else pales in comparison. But here is the thing, Insomniac said the game was finished 8 months ago and I actually commented a couple of pages back that this would give them more then enough time to make it super-polished. So when I'm playing and I see the ladder animation or the ugly textures or weird bugs like a Grimms blown off hand crawling up the wall then I get kind of irritated. I'm surprised I didn't connect with Capelli either (I'm a husband/father after all) and I ultimately feel that killing off Hale at the end of R2 was a mistake.

A few more points on the plus side of things, the particle effects are amazing and there are some spectacular lighting effects in certain areas. The sprint animation is cool too, the camera zooms in and you get the "cam-shake" effect. The gunplay is rock solid, controls are tight. There are a couple of set-pieces that really impressed me and ultimately had me saying "why can't the entire game have this quality?". The AI leaves a lot to be desired though and there is this strange animation when you kill a hybrid where the gun flies out of their hands with incredible force, spinning through the air as if you had grabbed it with a whip and yanked with all of your might lol.

I will start my super-human playthrough this week and try out the online (can't activate my Network Pass yet). Playing through the campaign in co-op could be fun although it seems the 8 player co-op mode from R2 is gone (and I spent more time playing that then competitive mp, R1 had the best MP imo). At the end of the day this is simply my opinion, I am sure there will be those that absolutely love the game.

Yeah, I would say R1 had best MP FREE BEER was the best game mode And I spent more time on R2s co-op then MP or Sp as well
EDIT: What were Insomniac on, when they decided 16 players and no server browser (Even though I wish R1/2 had server browser for ranked games, at least it offered one)

Wow, I have been reading through the reviews and I am in a state of wonder and amazement. Average score seems to be 9/10, there are a couple of 9.5's and a PERFECT 5/5 from Morgan Webb (G4TV). There are certain things that will be relative to each individuals experience such as their connection to the characters/story etc. But the technical stuff? That's not open to debate and NOT ONE of these reviews mentions any of that. Objectivity=non-existent? Anyway, I will try out the MP tonight, hoping for the best.2011-09-06 10:12:00

Started my Superhuman playthrough last night, I love that you can carry over your weapon upgrade progress and journals essentially making it a NG+. The GameInformer review is the most honest one I have read so far, it's the only one to make mention of the various technical issues for starters. Still, overall I really like the game and if mp gets me really hooked I might come to love it 2011-09-08 17:08:00

I just got it a few days ago, and so far I think its the best shooter on PS3 yet
Both multiplayer and Co-op are a blast, the level up system is great and even though it might have a few problems, they're small, and it rarely gets in the way of the fun.
The only major issue I have with it is the lack of a server list...custom games can only be done privately and there's no option to lock out certain weapons for matches.
I'll be playing this for a long time though =)

I have exhausted all my ammo, (up to trying to shoot the red bits on his butt/back) but the Chimera are not landing anymore (so no more bullseye drops)...
...Is there are Wildfire ammo respawn that I'm missing?

EDIT:
Well, that's BS.
I had to die in order to get more Wildfire ammo.
Each stage of the widowmaker counts as a checkpoint. :|

...
And finished the game now.
Yeah, not bad. Some fun firefights in there. Most elements are as good or better than R1/R2.
Spoilers:
The prison is a bit of a drag imo.
I don't like whacking people in the head with a sledgehammer. I like Resistance because it's aliens you're fighting.
Plus I hate it when you conserve ammo/grenades, just so they can be taken away.
No boss though? I was expecting a pure chimera to come out of the wormhole. That last set piece is ok, but I think Naughty Dog does those better in Uncharted.

Man those credits are long.
