If that wasn't obvious by reading the levels title, than I don't know if you should be reading this review. Instead, you should scurry off and start attending some more vocational classes. STATISTICS: As of 12/6/2010 Created - 11/07/2010 Last Update - 3 Days ago # of Plays - 17 <3 - 1 Current Rating - :star::star::star: Now that I probably offended some readers, let me be the first to say that I was not expecting the level that iBubek created to be presented in such a manner as it was. Graphically the presentation was good. If I was to compare the near four million levels on LBP with Metal Forest, I would probably agree that it sits above average. What makes this one unique is obviously the metal used as a forest but also as you venture through it is enclosed in some sort of temple. There is no explanation on why this unique forest is made this way nor does it explain why it is enclosed. The use of materials is unique and blends natural elements with metal. There is hardly any use of stickers and nearly all of it is constructed of 90 to 45 degree angles. Another portion you venture through is a room of deadly gas that features a near black and white contrast. While it was welcoming to see variety, it too was made of the harsh angles. These angles made the forest look anything but organic. http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5082/5238648045_b0146004d0.jpg (http://www.flickr.com/photos/55176054@N05/5238648045/) (http://www.flickr.com/photos/55176054@N05/5238648045/) Sounds and Music was a tad bit lacking. Music was consistent all the way through and matched the level appropriately. Environmental sounds was lacking from beginning to end. When you enter a forest, you would expect it to be bustling with sounds and of course this is not your typical forest, but any atmosphere of trying to translate that it 'is' a forest, is lost. Some interactive objects had sounds while others lacked any sound at all. http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5123/5239237226_943bb1e7f7.jpg (http://www.flickr.com/photos/55176054@N05/5239237226/) (http://www.flickr.com/photos/55176054@N05/5239237226/) Gameplay was not as engaging as I had hoped. There were only a few portions where you had any obstacles and when you did encounter one, it was short lived. Metal Forest also featured a boss where you must dodge flaming rocks as they rain down on your little sackperson. You may only defeat him by jumping on a jump pad that in turn bounces your character away. It's a unique approach, but the execution somehow felt poorly done. It's only proper to mention that while I defeated this character, I was transported to the bottom of the Metal Forest level where it was clearly 'outside' of the level and I was unable to finish the level at this point. If there was any other parts of Metal Forest, I sadly missed it. http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5250/5238648043_283609e4c7.jpg (http://www.flickr.com/photos/55176054@N05/5238648043/) (http://www.flickr.com/photos/55176054@N05/5238648043/) Final Thoughts: This level interested me when I first entered and had me wondering about the unique environment. I quickly became lost and focused more of what I wanted as I progressed through. Wanting to know more of the world I was in. While it certainly stimulates you, it fails to get you to the point of where it engulfs you. Hopefully with a stronger atmosphere and more of a story, it can help push this one to a must play. As it sits, it obviously needs a second look so players can finish the level and not have to exit the level because of a technical flaw. Clearly the creator has grown from when I have last reviewed a level and im sure more growth will surely come. I rate Metal Forest :star::star::star: Thanks for reading the Review!! Oh noes! I've never had that bug! There was quite a bit more after the boss, so I'm sad that you missed it. First of all, thankyou for the suggestions, this level is in the BETA phase, and I still have about 4 notches of the thermo to use. All of these things you pointed out will be included, and I will even mention your name for the great help. I was stuck with this level as I knew it needed more, but I didn't know in which areas. Anyway, sounds will be added, thanks for the suggestion. I have had many complaints about the gas section, and I may simply delete it from the level, unless I find a way to make it fit more. The boss is there more as a placeholder, he will be improved, but I am waiting for LBP2, because I have plans for him that simply aren't possible in LBP1. Why it is enclosed, I am trying to get a feel of a very dense forest, but still need to add some visuals. Thanks again! | 2010-12-06 23:17:00 Author: iBubek Posts: 682 |
I will try it again if there is more. I did see a very nice looking letter down at the bottom http://farm6.static.flickr.com/5046/5238648041_65349359b7.jpg (http://www.flickr.com/photos/55176054@N05/5238648041/) (http://www.flickr.com/photos/55176054@N05/5238648041/) I will play it again and see what else is there and hopefully get past that bug! | 2010-12-06 23:45:00 Author: John82wa Posts: 221 |
LOL! That must have been my friends messing around when I was creating! I invited some guys over to help with the level, but they prefer making graffiti. -_- Do you know how you got out maybe? I'll see what I can do to fix it anyway. And, as I said, it would be nice to have you in OC with this level, unless you plan on making graffiti instead. | 2010-12-07 00:17:00 Author: iBubek Posts: 682 |
