I have wondered if a game launching with a free map pack as a reward to the players for completing certain conditions would help encourage people to play the game longer and be an effective way of slowing a games trade in rate providing a better way of combating the preowned market rather than the current one time code thing. This is a distant variation of my idea but I am interested in seeing how it goes.
